Chiang Mai part 2: Trying to be in the moment. . . The last leg of my trip brought me back to Chiang Mai, and while I was happy to be back as I already felt quite comfortable there, it was also where my anxieties were catching up with me about my journey back, about whether I had done enough or less or could have done more, and about getting back to things (whatever they may be). . . Regardless, I had a great two days walking around parts of the town I didn’t explore in the first leg, which included catching a glimpse of the river, going through the morning and night markets, bumping into a protest by the working class against capitalism, and just taking things super slow and easy. . . Of course I ate delicious food and drank Thai tea and coffee because one can never go wrong with that. Overall, I’m super proud of myself for doing this trip and Thailand again was very sweet and nice to me from start to finish, and it is a great place to solo travel if you wish. Day 8 - part 2: Milindi and Vasco de Gama In Milindi the driver dropped me near the Vasco da Gama Pillar. He wanted an extra 200 Schilling for that but I said enough is enough and jumped off. There was an entry fee of 500 Schilling to see the pillar which seemed too much for not even a beautifully decorated pillar. So I went to the beach, jumped a few fences and walked in the ocean water for a bit and got to the pillar for free. It's overrated but still cool to see the pillar which was erected in 1498 by Vasco da Gama as a navigational aid. Since Malindi is home to many Italians whom have settled there since the 1970s, Malindi is known for the terrific Italian food. I went to the baby marrow restaurant which was recommended to me as the best restaurant in the entire country. To my disappointment it was closed. Day 8: Lounging And Laundry Belize City was giving sketchy vibes so I was glad this hostel was out of the way in a quieter place. I was even more glad that I’d only booked 2 nights. I reckon the Belizeans are on to something with this no fast food business, the closest thing I had this day was nowhere near as good as the local street food places.

My first solo trip and it has been wonderful! 😄🙌🏻 I’ve been on a bit of a healing journey lately and this trip came at a time when I needed it most. I’ve been able to fully relax, do what I want, when I want, wander at my own pace and enjoy some peace and quiet. Gosh, I don’t remember the last time I was able to just sit and read a book for hours without feeling guilty or without a constant “mum, mum, mama” in my ear! Alicante was the perfect destination. It’s a small city that’s easy to get around so I had plenty of time to explore as well as chill on the beach or at one of the many pavement cafes or beach bars. I found it very safe, the locals extremely friendly (got to practice my Spanish quite a bit…”Sangria grande por favor” 😂🙌🏻), with lots of people eating out alone so I didn’t feel uncomfortable at all being on my own. Of course I’ve missed my usual little travel buddy but I also kinda don’t wanna go back home to responsibilities 😬 Maybe I should do a solo trip more often! Tag 122 Es geht zur Ancient City aber nicht die in Sri Lanka, sondern in Ayutthaya. Nahe Bangkok. Die Stadt war früher die Hauptstadt von Thailand und ist heute Teil der UNESCO. Die besteht aus mehreren dutzenden Tempeln und Ruinen. Wovon ich mehrere heute besucht habe. Angefangen hat die Tour mit der Sommerresidenz der Könige. Eine wunderschöne Anlage mit viel Grün und eine willkommene Abwechslung zum Straßen Lärm. Day 7: Kilifi/Distant Relatives After the big day of exploring yesterday I decided to get the best use of my lovely hostel. Since it is just a 5min walk to the creeks beach I had a look there but decided the pool looks much nicer. So I went for a swim or better a quick cool down and tried to fix my tan. Tag 121 Um der Hitze zu entgehen, geht es früh morgens los. Dieses Mal hoch auf einen Berg. Dank des Windes ist es sogar erträglich, obwohl es schon um 9 Uhr morgens über 30 Grad sind. Stufen über Stufen werden erklommen, direkt durch eine kleine grüne Oase. Mitten in Bangkok und doch fühlt man sich wie außerhalb. Kein Lärm, kein Smog nur die Ruhe des Tempels. Oben der Ausblick auf die Stadt, die Wolkenkratzer und die Tempel, die die Umgebung zieren. Am Nachmittag geht es dann auf einen Floating Markt, wo man mit Booten zwischen Häusern her fahren kann. In den Häusern die auf Steelen gebaut sind kann man malen, essen und Shoppen. Für jeden das seine. Von dort geht es mit der Metro in die Metropole, in einen IKEA, der nicht aussieht wie IKEA und eine riesige Mall, die mich an die Food-Messe in Hamburg erinnert. Zum Ausklang geht es in einen irischen Pub, wo Fußball, Boxen und Rugby gezeigt wird. Das Guinness darf natürlich nicht fehlen... Tag 120 Endlich eine Mütze voll Schlaf bekommen, geht es für mich weiter die Tempel besichtigen. Da der Palast am Vortrag geschlossen war, steht er heute auf dem Plan. Beeindruckende Gebäude, viel Gold und Geschichte. Leider ist es viel zu heiß gewesen und der Besuch wurde eher zur Qual als zum Vergnügen. Doch dafür kann der Tempel nichts. Nach dem Palast geht es mit der Fähre über den Fluss auf die andere Seite. Dabei schaukelt es mehr als es mir gefällt, gott sei Dank ist es nur ein kurzer Weg. Dieses Mal kein Gold, sondern Mosaik und weiße Farbe. Hohe Stupas und große Stufen, ein Ausblick auf den Fluss und die Anlagen rund um. Danach zurück zum Hostel, der Hitze entfliehen. Am Abend geht es shoppen in einer der Malls. Stunden über Stunden kann ich hier verbringen, dank Klimaanlagen 😂 und der Food Court, erst verwirrend und dann überzeugend lecker und günstig dazu. Konstancin-Jeziorna, Polska 2024 Przepiękne @muzeumwycinanki, czyli perełka ostatniej wizyty w Konstancinie i jednocześnie duża niespodzianka - nie wiedziałam zupełnie o jego istnieniu, a to duży błąd! I choćby to jest powód, żeby obtrąbić jego istnienie w internecie! Muzeum znajduje się nieco na uboczu, bo niedaleko Starej Papierni/tuż przy zabudowaniach dawnej wytwórni papieru w Jeziornie. W środku znajduje się ciekawa i częściowo interaktywna (filmiki, nagrania) wystawa o wycinankach, różnych regionalnych wzorach i ich historii. Jest też pracownia, w której odbywają się warsztaty tworzenia wycinanek dla dzieci i dla dorosłych (!) Moim zdaniem absolutny must see i sroczyzm na wysokim poziomie (w moich ustach nie ma lepszego komplementu 😊). Byliście? Visited: September 2023 Who's that biker chick on that dune? Lol 😝 . After spending my birthday in the Sahara desert, I decided to go quadbiking in the dunes. It was really difficult to ride up this dune as the tour guide had to manually try push the quad up, but the views was amazing. After seeing the sunrise, we were just about to set off but when the quad bike was at this position, I realised I was right on top of the dune and I wanted a pic before we left so I asked the tour guide to take a pic and video of me. Visited: February 2024 Milan on a dark and wet evening. It gets really busy here during the day so it's definitely worth it to come back in the evening. I saw the Milan Duomo close up, but I took this from as far back as I can to get the Duomo and Galleria Vitterio in one shot. Tag 119 Obwohl eigentlich immer noch 118, denn ich habe nicht geschlafen und somit ist noch kein neuer Tag 😂 Jedenfalls: Hello Bangkok, hello Thailand So groß, so anders und so vielseitig. Ein bisschen hatte ich schiss, normalerweise mag ich keine Großstädte, doch mein erster Eindruck ist super und das trotz der Hitze. Da ich erst am Nachmittag einchecken kann, gehe ich weiter zum Tempel und habe die Anlage teilweise für mich alleine, da noch keiner so früh hier ist. Die Hitze und der mangelnde Schlaf zerren an mir und es fällt mir immer schwerer die Sachen aufzunehmen. Doch ich laufe weiter zum nächsten Tempel und muss feststellen, dass der Königspalast geschlossen ist und ich meine Pläne umstellen muss, egal denn dafür ist heute der Tempel am Palast kostenlos. Zwar voll aber kostenlos und da beschwere ich mich erst recht nicht. In der brütenden Hitze geht es zurück zum Hostel, wo ich endlich einchecken kann. Eine Dusche später liege ich im Bett und gönne mir etwas Schlaf. Visited: September 2022 Positano from the bus route that takes you to the top. When I visited Positano, I got the bus that stopped at the main bus stop in the centre. I noticed the bus route was heading uphill and I wanted to stop off at the next stop hoping to get a higher view and walk back down. I didn't know the next stop turned out to be quite far. We booked a 4-night stay in the Chiang Mai old town because we wanted to be right in the middle of all the action. The old town is like the heart of the city, with its grid-style layout making it super easy to navigate. Tag 117 Anstatt an den Strand geht es zum Tempel. Wo ich durch das Maul eines Drachen, den inneren Teil betrete. Innen sind Bilder und Statuen abgebildet und alles ist bis ins kleinste Detail abgestimmt. Die Geschichte Buddhas wird erzählt und dazu gibt es noch weitere Bilder. Dank der Broschüre, die man für eine Spende erhält, verstehe ich die Abbildungen und etwas mehr vom Buddhismus. Danach crashe ich fast eine Hochzeit, denn in einer der Kirchen wird gerade ein Paar getraut. Aus Respekt gehe ich schnell wieder hinaus, anstatt mir die Bilder an den Decken anzuschauen. So laufe ich weiter und meine Nase merkt als erstes wo es hingeht, nämlich zum Fischmarkt. Von weiten ist der Geruch zu erkennen und das Geschrei der Händler und der Vögel, die um die Überreste der Fische kämpfen.
