Some sketches and photos from tonight's evening of poetry in Farsi and English @downingcollege_cambridge created by @heong_gallery and @soheila_sokhanvari_ 1. Soheila, speaking of the trauma of exile that "gives you a third eye" and creativity as a living response. Although the evening centred on the work of Forough Farrokhzad, she also spoke of Joy E, Pushkin and Dante's voices found in exile. 2-4. Dr Mina Gorgi reading from her own poems, including this powerful recent line from the end of her poem, The Wind: " Listen, do you hear the darkness gathering?...we are waiting to be taken by the wind." 4&5. Fari Bradley @faribrad performing her richly textured version of Forough Farrokhzad's work with a simultaneous sound piece. Some of the many lines which caught me : "The wind is whistling through the streets, the beginnings of ruination..." " And all my wounds come from love, from loving..." "And I will greet my mother, who shaped and lived in the mirror, and who my reflection resembled in her old age.". So much of wonder and resonance that I look forward to reading. 6. Generous thinkers Mina Gorgi, Soheila Sokhanvari, Katy Shahandeh and Prerona Prasad 7&8 @katashaha Katy Shahandeh reading two poems by Farrukhzad in Farsi, with English translations read by Libby and Ellie from Downing College English Literature Club . As these rhythms passed between languages and individuals, it became obvious how personal our readings are. One of my favourite lines " ...but his despair was so small that each night it is lost in crowded taverns." Katy also gave a very interesting presentation on contemporary Iranian women artists who use this poetry in their work. È il primo film della regista e poetessa iraniana Forough Farrokhzad, prodotto nel 1963 dalla Golestan Film per l'Associazione e Assistenza ai lebbrosi. La regista con uno sguardo documentaristico, ci mostra la vita di una comunità di lebbrosi isolati dal mondo, ingabbiati in una ritualità quotidiana che si reitera con tormento e dolore, dove i giorni, i mesi, gli anni si ripetono ancora e ancora, come se il tempo fosse un moto circolare senza un divenire, in attesa che si spezzi con la morte. Born on January 5, 1934 in Tehran, Iran, Forough Farrokhzad began writing poetry at a young age. She was the youngest of seven children in a wealthy and traditional family. Her first collection of poems, "Asir" (The Captive), was published in 1955 when she was just 21 years old. Farrokhzad's work is known for its bold and unconventional style, which often addresses themes of love, femininity, and social issues. She was a vocal advocate for women's rights and freedom of expression in Iran. Her poetry challenged traditional gender roles and societal norms. Farrokhzad's poetry was often seen as controversial and provocative. She faced criticism and censorship from the Iranian government for her views. In addition to her poetry, Farrokhzad was also a filmmaker. She produced and directed several films, including "The House is Black," which is considered a masterpiece of Iranian cinema. The film, which deals with themes of poverty and disease, was released in 1963 and received widespread critical acclaim. Farrokhzad's work has had a lasting impact on Iranian literature and culture. She is remembered as a trailblazer for her willingness to challenge societal norms and speak out on controversial issues. Heute war ich für die "10-Minuten-Lyrik"-Ringvorlesung des Instituts für Geschichtswissenschaft und Literarische Kulturen auf dem Campus der @leuphana Universität Lüneburg, zu der mein Vater auch in diesem Semester wieder beigetragen hat; nach einem Ghazal von Hāfiz und dem wunderbaren "Bani Adam" von Sa'di stand heute eine der wichtigsten persischen Poetinnen überhaupt im Mittelpunkt: Forugh Farrokhzad, die auch in der gegenwärtigen feministischen Revolution im #Iran eine große Rolle spielt. (Mancher mag Ihr Werk in den letzten Tagen in #Berlin wahrgenommen haben, ohne sich darüber im Klaren zu sein: Vergangenes Wochenende enthüllte die @neue_nationalgalerie ein Banner* voller Textauszüge von Farrokhzad.) Ich selbst habe bereits ein diskussionsfreudiges Wochenendseminar zu " #Gaming als Arena der #Außenpolitik und #Sicherheitspolitik in Zeiten des dritten #Systemwettbewerb|s" hinter mir, und freue mich auf das kommende Wochenendseminar zu " #Gerechtigkeit und Gesellschaft in Zeiten der #Simulationshypothese und des #Metaverse"; es ist schön zu sehen, dass diese beiden Seminare nach vielen Jahren in der #Lehre an der #Leuphana weiterhin so gut besucht werden - das freut und ehrt mich sehr 😇 * Die @bbc schrieb in ihrer Serie "100 Women" vor einigen Jahren über sie: " #ForoughFarrokhzad's poetry was bold, honest and open.
