Τρόοδος ονομάζεται επίσης και η περιοχή κοντά στην κορυφή της Χιονίστρας. Η ονομασία του Τροόδους προέρχεται από το γεγονός ότι στο σημείο του «Τροόδους» συναντιούνται οι «τρεις δρόμοι» (τρεις οδοί) που συνδέουν το βουνό με Λευκωσία, τη Λεμεσό και τον Πρόδρομο. Σύμφωνα με μια άλλη εκδοχή η ονομασία του προήρθε από το «όρος- Άδος» δηλαδή το βουνό του Άδωνη. Το Τρόοδος καλύπτει το 1/3 της έκτασης του νησιού, φιλοξενώντας μεγάλες δασικές εκτάσεις, πλούσια χλωρίδα με ποικιλία ενδημικών φυτών και πλούσια πανίδα. Επιπρόσθετα είναι η σημαντικότερη πηγή ύδατος για το νησί εφόσον από εκεί πηγάζουν οι κυριότεροι ποταμοί...
