Lil’ bro and I. Back before Disney owned EVERYTHING, they would license popular characters for the parks to bring people in. TMNT was one of them. It was wonderful experiencing this momentous occasion with fellow fans and getting to talk to the Imagineers who brought this park to life! Bob Weis (former president of WDI), Mark Silverman (the voice of Rod Serling in the Tower of Terror), Brock Thoman (designer of Florida's Chinese Theater), Mike West (former writer/producer at WDI and Universal Creative), and more were all so wonderful to talk and hear stories from! Additionally, Stage 89 had a phenomenal museum display with props and figures from The Great Movie Ride, including one of the showgirls from the Footlight Parade scene, which I personally geeked out over! Picture it - Disney-MGM Studios 1997 (if the sign didn’t tell you the year my bleached blonde hair sure would have). The prequels had been announced, there were no sequels, there were no streaming shows, and the Special Editions were still new. A New Hope turned 20. While at the park they were celebrating the anniversary with character meet-and-greets. I was so excited that I just went ahead threw my arms around Luke and Leia. this is going to be a little different but in honor of dhs turning 35 and that im going to Chuck E. Cheese tonight i thought i could share some trivia!!! 🐭🍕🎥 here’s some trivial knowledge that’s about both disney and Chuck E. Cheese: 1. the idea of animatronics in chuck e cheese came from disney attractions such as walt disney’s enchanted tiki room and the country bear jamboree! 2. the founder of cec, nolan bushnell (also cofounder of atari), originally wanted to work for disney since he’s an avid fan, but sadly he never got the chance to 3. the character chuck e cheese was inspired by Mickey Mouse. it’s his name because it was alliterative to mickey’s! also before being called chuck e, he was originally going to be named Rick rat! 4. during the tux era of cec in the 90s, chuck e wore a tuxedo that resembles to how mickey wears a tuxedo at disney world, disneyland, and other parks! 5. back around the mid-90s, cec entertainment would film their showtapes for their animatronic shows over at disney’s mgm studios! this was obviously several years before the park had to be renamed to Hollywood studios. maybe that could mean that chuck e possibly got to meet mickey! hehe! 6. the meet and greet area for Olaf from frozen was actually one of the filming areas for cec showtapes back in the mid 90s! With the 35th Anniversary Celebration commencing at Disney's Hollywood Studios yesterday, the Stage 1 Company Store on Grand Avenue reopened temporarily to accommodate the distribution of limited edition merchandise. This store sits at the exit of Muppet*Vision 3-D and has not been open consistently since before the COVID-19 pandemic. Tras su inauguración, el expresidente de Disney, Michael Eisner, dedicó Disney-MGM Studios a Hollywood, al que llamó “un estado mental que existe donde la gente sueña, se pregunta e imagina”, abarcado por el parque temático y el Backstage Studio Tour, propicio para varios espectáculos. Sin embargo, de los cuatro parques actuales, éste es el que más cambios ha sufrido, y muchos de sus actuales iconos lo pueden comprobar: el Sunset Boulevard, el Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, el Rock 'n' Roller Coaster de Aerosmith, y el Fantasmic! El parque se creó no solo para encarnar la época dorada de Hollywood del siglo XX, sino también para ser la base de un centro cinematográfico que rivalice con Hollywood. Lamentablemente y aunque fuera directamente responsable de varias queridas películas de Disney en los 90s, esto trajo costos extra no solo para ambos, sino hasta en el mismo Universal Orlando. Para enero de 2008, se hizo el cambio de nombre, que pretendía claramente reforzar la relación abiertamente simbiótica con la capital mundial del cine, implicando el rediseño de atracciones y ante el debacle de MGM. Una vez que la idea fracasara, el parque continuó con el lema "así es como se hacen las películas", pero no más. El parque todavía celebra las películas, pero no desde la perspectiva de cómo se hacen. Nickelodeon characters at a Disney Park, that’s what MGM was all about back in the day 🌀 If it weren’t for the Earffel Tower in the background or the Doug lunchbox I’m holding, it almost doesn’t make sense. To me, Disney-MGM Studios was a theme park that bought the rights to popular franchises and made them fit into a park of their own 🎬 You almost had to be there because if you weren’t you wouldn’t believe it. My photos have always felt dated and that’s the way I like them. 25 years ago I met Doug and Patti at 3 years old in 1999.

🎥 🍿 Happy 35th Birthday to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Opening May 1, 1989 as Disney-MGM Studios, it functioned as a working movie studio as well as a theme park. The park was initially conceptualized as an entertainment centered pavilion at EPCOT. As plans developed, this idea changed to become a separate theme park and Disney’s third gate. Then Disney CEO Michael Eisner, former CEO of Paramount Pictures, felt that Disney needed another park but also knew of plans of Universal bringing their west coast movie park to the east coast with their eyes set on Orlando. Disney-MGM Studios opened with 5 attractions and is now the only Walt Disney World Park that does not have at least 1 of its opening day attractions still operating today. With the Disney company being just around 50 years old at the time, the company did not possess any “old Hollywood” IP and history. Negotiations began with MGM, the largest in Hollywood, so Disney could possess a dark ride featuring classic scenes from old Hollywood. From then on the park began to change time and time again eventually becoming Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Jan 7, 2008. Since my first visit to the Studios, my favorite attraction has always been Muppet Vision 3D. I was talking to my dad recently and he said that no matter how many times you go watch the show it never gets old. It’s timeless. I’ve been so connected to the Muppets for as long as I can remember. In fact, the Muppets are a big reason why I became a Disney fan growing up, so I owe it to them. I also graduated from University of Maryland in College Park where Jim Henson (and Kermit) went to college. There’s a statue of them in the middle of campus. I even consider Kermit fellow alumni.
