Last week my son Storm got his drivers license! . My journey through life with Storm so far fills me with gratitude. In a more literal way, we travelled around the world, in all kinds of classic cars, because Lucas, his father likes vintage vehicles. Even though the separation between his father and me was inevitable, I cherish the good memories, especially those while travelling, because then it was just us three . Storm chose to live with me and I did my utmost best to make him feel loved, safe and supported. The 6 months before he made his world trip, though, I felt estranged from him. Apart from the fact that a child has to revolt against its parents in order to find its own identity, it saddened me that as his mother, I would always see Storm, unlike his friends, in a limited way. How silly of me to look at it that way . When Storm came back from Indonesia he was different. More free inside and much more open-minded. When his father and I picked him up from the airport and brought him to the restaurant where he used to work, we saw that everybody was hugging Storm with exuberant cheers, as if he was some sort of popular president. We were so proud, because we never saw him this way… . Then I got ill. Storm did everything to make life easier for me. Also because I dared more to ask for help. He brought me to the hospital, went to the supermarket, he cooked, picked a terrace when I had the energy to go out. And we started having great conversations again. So, yes, even though my illness makes life less carefree, it also gave my relationship with Storm more meaning . 1 Berlin, 2010. Storm always used the open roof of his dad’s scimitar as exit . 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Poland, 2012. In our Daimler, before Lucas painted it mint green with a paint roller . 8 & 9 South-Africa, 2009, during a safari tour . 10 Drenthe, 2021. Every summer Storm and Lucas went to #buitenkunstdrenthe. Daimler Majestic Major (1960-1968) For #flagshipfriday and #patinaweek by @carsrob we have a stately looking Daimler that was sat on a driveway in Portsmouth in 2009. The very traditional, formal-looking Majestic Major luxury saloon was a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing. The straight-six-powered Majestic first appeared in 1958. The Major was a V8-powered version produced 1960-1968. The V8 engine had an alloy head, hemispherical combustion chambers, and was a 4.6 litre with 220bhp, giving this funeral director's favourite a top speed of 120mph. Road manners were apparently surprisingly good too. This is one of those British cars I know almost nothing about. This era of cars is just a little bit too old for my liking. But I do always like seeing them in the wild! This particular example is a Daimler Conquest, which is a rebadge of the Lanchester Fourteen and Leda. After the Lanchester name was dropped for passenger cars, the Leda was transformed into a Daimler.
