Don appeared in “The Andy Griffith Show” as Newton Monroe, a traveling salesman selling a wide variety of items of questionable quality from his trunk without a license. Barney tried to work him extra hard while he served his sentence, but Newton was not all that “ept” and continuously and unintentionally caused problems. Don was an incredibly respected comedian and actor whose most recent work was voicing Mr. Potato Head in several TV shorts and providing the voice for “Toy Story 4.” Don was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Live Performance in recognition of his decades as a sought after nightclub performer. Season 2, Episode 22, “Semi-Friendly Persuasion” originally aired May 8th, 1984 with a REAL Don’t Blink appearance from moi. I distinctly remember the scene about 27mins in when The Heavy (the always great Geoffrey Lewis) meets our Heroes. We shot out at Placerita Canyon with Tim O’Connor (‘Peyton Place,’ ‘Buck Rogers’) and Sam Jones (‘Flash Gordon’), Directed by Craig Baxley (Veteran Stuntman from ‘The Omega Man’ to ‘Predator’ turned Director; look up HIS creds). This ‘A-Team’ episode is about a Pacifist Community targeted by Smalltown Bullies and Hannibal & The Boys teach them a lesson. Without violence. Kinda. The TITLE references the 1956 William Wyler - Gary Cooper Feature ‘Friendly Persuasion’ about a Quaker family during The Civil War and the way the war tests their pacifist beliefs. So, you know, Meta. From Stephen J. Cannell who also gave us ‘The Rockford Files,’ ‘The Greatest American Hero,’ and ’21 Jump Street.’ . I remember everyone being friendly. I remember Mr. T. spent the most time with us kids (and he had security with him because all his necklaces were real). I remember Dirk Benedict being so proud he’d included the Face DRAWING - Man. Comic book shops around the country give away select comic book samples on the first Saturday in May (though my experience has been that they usually still have at least some available in the days following May 1). Comic books were Gomer and Goober’s preferred reading material.
