Beltane is almost upon us. Beltane is a major Pagan festival called a Sabbat. It is the union of the God and Goddess, the Goddess will become pregnant with the harvest to come. The word Beltane means 'Bel's Fire'. It is named after the God Bel an ancient Celtic Sun God. Beltane is a fire festival and is traditional to build a fire on Beltane night to honour the Sun Gods. Beltane is a fertility festival, it is the height of Spring and the beginning of Summer. Earths energy is very strong and potent at this time, with new life everywhere, Beltane is the start of the farming calendar. In Celtic times it would be traditional to build a big bonfire in the centre of the village and have a big feast, young men and women would dance around the maypole while many people would marry in a handfasting (Pagan wedding) People wishing to find love or conceive would jump over a Belfire for luck in love and fertility On Beltane we celebrate the abundance of the earth, it is a happy time when we give thanks for all we have in our lives and look forward to the bright sunny days ahead. We celebrate the coming together of the God and the Goddess and the harvest gifts they will bestow upon the earth. Beltane starts on April 30th at 12 midday and ends on May 1st at Midnight. The day is mainly celebrated on May 1st (posted by Wicca Teachings page ) Those interested in celebrating this turn of the wheel from dark into light is welcome to drop in this Sunday at our hOMe Studio in downtown Barrie. It will be held at Greater Goods, 114 North Padre Juan, on Thursday evening March 21 from 6:30 until 9:00 pm. Sharing from the heart around the Earth Altar we gather in a safe space consecrated with prayers and songs as we honor this passage of the light through the seasons. The Spring Equinox is the one of the 2 times a year when night and day are of equal length. In this time of balance between the light and the dark, in the circle we are provided the opportunity to tune in with this subtle and powerful point of balance. Here in the Ojai Valley we have been blessed with another wet winter and Mother Nature is blooming all around, Her fertility is burgeoning in the plant and animal world as we move from the season of Winter into Spring. It’s a powerful time to weave our feelings and intentions together and be strengthened and inspired by our reflections around the circle. We are also being supported by the full Moon energy, when she is building her light, 4 days before she is full. Mark your calendars! 📅 On Sunday April, 21st from 2:30-4pm, we will be hosting a Sunday Stretch & Sound fundraiser at @pttvancity to help support our friends who are more like family, Marie and Chris. They need a little extra love and support right now. ❤️🩹 If you don’t know already, their family was recently hit with an extremely challenging life wave. While on a beautiful family vacation in Asia, Chris unfortunately contracted a flesh eating disease and had to lose a leg. He fought for his life in the process and we are beyond grateful that he is still with us and able to be with his family. That being said, this is beyond devastating and heartbreaking for a man who spends his life supporting his family by working aa a fire fighter. Not to mention, someone who has always been super active and loves to run and train in various martial arts. This wonderful family is a part of our martial arts family at PTT Vancity. In fact, they are the reason I even started going to this gym in the first place which has been the supportive birthing place of my sound healing teaching journey. Marie and Chris are bright lights and lead by example. They both have the biggest hearts and are a big part of the community here in Vancouver as they raise their beautiful family together. However, currently that is abroad. Due to the severity of the injury Chris has sustained, Marie, Chris and their two children have been unable to fly home. They’ve been trying to navigate through this life altering event in a foreign country for over 30 days while Chris has been in the hospital healing. That is up until only just recently, where they have been given a green light to potentially fly back home to Canada. We are hoping to raise funds to help support them as they are transitioning through this very challenging time. Every little bit helps!
