It's our 4th anniversary 🎉! #DONATE to keep us going because did you know that organizations led by people of color win less grant money and are trusted less to make decisions about how to spend those funds than groups with white leaders, according to a report by the consultancy Bridgespan and Echoing Green, an organization that invests in and supports leaders of emerging social enterprises. They found that white-led groups had budgets that were 24 percent larger than those led by people of color. It also found that groups led by black women received less money than those led by black men or white women. For nonprofits that focus on some similar issues, the gaps were even larger. Among groups focused on improving life outcomes of black men, revenue at organizations with black leaders was 45 percent lower than at groups led by whites. Even when nonprofits with leaders of color won grants, differences remained. The research found that donations with no strings attached, groups with leaders of color were 76 percent smaller than those led by whites. This is something Pan African Think Tank board of directors already knew. This is why we ask for donations to keep us going because it's more challenging than most may think. Do you know our origin story? 🏁 With our Founder having had the opportunity to study abroad twice, and venture to 79 countries during her sabbaticals by 2018, she recalled many conversations she'd had with Pan-Africans from different places and all walks of life. But the word and the principles behind "Pan-African" never crossed her mind until her November 2018 trip to Rocinha, the largest favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She learned not all schools taught History and World Geography. At that moment she thought, "You can't plan for your future and thoroughly understand your present, without knowing and acknowledging your past."
