I'm not the type to brag (yes I am), but I've been in my *~*composting era*~* for a few years now. My pile stays cooking, even through the winter. But this ish right here? This ish RIGHT HERE?! I'm about to take my compost game to new heights. Veggie scraps-gone. Egg shells-Gone. Various meat bones and seafood scraps-GONE!! 🗣ERRBODY IN THE BUCKET!! Here's a basic breakdown *teehee* of the bokashi process: All my food scraps get thrown in the bucket and sprinkled with bokashi bran, an innoculent that causes food to ferment and break down. The resulting liquid can be diluted and used as an organic fertilizer. After a few weeks (or when the bucket is full) food remnants can either be thrown into my active compost bin to supercharge it OR buried right into a raised bed to keep breaking down and provide direct nutrients to what's already growing. I already had a DIY bokashi bucket, but this dedicated one WITH A DRAIN HOLE just makes the process so much easier. I've never been more excited to make trash. And I know my worms will be eating good too. Better than they already do, honestly 😒 Shout out to my neighbor giving this away via our local Buy Nothing Facebook group. Annyeonghaseyo(hello!) garden peeps!! I've been on such a Korean food kick lately (it may or may not have to do with my K-Drama binge watching. Mind your own business...). Anyway, this week I decided to try my hand at making homemade #kimchi! I truly love the stuff, the funkier the better. I had a good amount of scallions ready to pull from the garden, as well as the first carrots I've ever grown🥕. The rest of the veggies (napa cabbage, daikon radish, onion, garlic) were store bought, but I'd love to get to a point where I can complete a whole recipe just with veggies from the backyard. Someday! I used an amalgamation of kimchi recipes from the legendary @maangchi, @modernpepper, and my buddy Kyong, who told me my kimchi looks just like her moms, which was the highest compliment, honestly😭 Since these need to sit out to ferment for a day or 2, I made sure to secure the jars with rubber bands to let out the burps instead of latching them. My TOMATO game this season has been STRONG. I have been harvesting tomatoes since early August and I'm still going 😅 This is today's harvest and I've still got last week's harvest in the fridge 🍅 🍅 The plan is to blend (the ripe ones) down so I've got lots of tomato sauce for jollof rice or gravy throughout the winter. Someone give these girls a blue ribbon! The one on the left is actually the baby corm, but mama had some real setbacks, so we spent the summer retooling and recovering. These plants are such healthy and voracious growers. I’m happy to see them propagating and ending up in more homes.

My Meyer Lemon 🍋 tree, (survived the winter in hibernation) has been temperamental all summer. Thankfully it grew back all the leaves lost during the winter, half way through summer some leaves started yellowing. I just realized I was watering 💧 it too often. In a week of reduced watering, I finally see flowers budding!!! Hoya Sunrise Hoya Sunrise is a pretty easy plant to care for. It prefers bright indirect light, but it can withstand slightly lower light levels. Mich like the obscura, it will remain green in lower and even some bright indirect light levels. If you want to make your hoya sunrise red, you’ll need more light. I was sooo excited for my first fully ripe @bakercreekseeds Etiuda Pepper, only to see a spider moved in before I could harvest it 😮‍💨 lesson learned.
