Last couple days to see our show at @heavengallerychicago which closes Saturday! 📷 @eugenetangible 𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙉𝙤𝙬 prompts an elongated sense of our present “now”, featuring work by Jenn Cacciola, Jennifer Tazewell Mawby, Taya Naumovich, Dana O’Malley, and SK Reed. Here, time becomes a malleable, textured, striated, and translucent material, used to encourage a reorientation of our personal senses of history, future, and the space between. Methods developed by The Long Now Foundation serve as a unifying framework among the artists. The Long Now is “the recognition that the precise moment you're in grows out of the past and is a seed for the future. The longer your sense of Now, the more past and future it includes...” and as an effect, the foundation hopes to “foster responsibility in the framework of the next 10,000 years” (Brian Eno). 𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙉𝙤𝙬 includes large-scale installation, drawing, assemblage, painting, and mixed-media sculpture.

Wood-burned drawings course through different registers created by an overarching rope drawing. Twirling dogs, prowling chickens, eyeballs undergoing REM sleep, and a rolling slumberer. To watch someone sleep is to see them in a frozen state, or one that from a waking perspective seems frozen.

Most shots by @eugenetangible The “apple in a box for infinity” theory in physics (Poincaré Recurrence) suggests that if an apple were to be left untouched in a box for billions of years, its fundamental particles would theoretically traverse every possible state they could, eventually leading the apple to return to its original state. With this sculpture, I’m thinking about that material multiplicity through the form of chick embryos.
Elena 🤍 @elleorsinib è stato bellissimo ritrarti :) Questa è una delle prime opere che ho fatto - mi pare 2021- e mi piace particolarmente per il suo sguardo così intenso a cui penso di essere riuscita a rendere giustizia eheh È di dimensioni contenute,21x30cm, ed è su carta 300g liscia, il supporto che preferisco su ogni altro. recentemente sto usando tanto la tela in cotone liscio ma la mia preferita rimane la carta; mi piace il modo semplice e veloce con cui il pastello a olio ci si stratifica, cosa che appunto non avviene con la tela che fa più resistenza. At the reception for John Heintzman’s exhibition “Still Black Sketches,” attendees were invited to take one artwork from the installation. For most students, this is the first artwork in their personal collection! John put into action the advice he gave in his lecture “Living Artfully: Creating, Curating, and Collecting.” The artwork took on new meaning as collectors compared their choices and evaluated whether the artwork reflected their personalities. The exhibition continues until April 12 in the second floor Catwalk Gallery in Heuser Art Center. Thanks to Susanne Nestory, Gallery Coordinator.
