B U L L O C K S The first department store opened outside LA’s downtown, the Bullocks Department Store was the epitome of luxury shopping and one of the first to cater for automobiles with a porte-cochere at the rear, enabling shoppers to drive in and enjoying valet parking. Art Deco Society Los Angeles Art deco architecture abounds in our fair city - as do fashion shows, of late. But it took The Art Deco Society of L.A. - which supports preservation, Deco walks, holds dress up balls- to bring them together. An Art Deco fashion show, held in that most beauteous of L.A. Deco temples, Bullock's Wilshire (now Southwestern Law School), included costumes from famed films worn by appropriately marcel waved models - all from the storied collection of Hollywood historian Greg Schreiner. It's that time again - time to think about what to wear to the #gatsbysummerafternoon put on by @artdecoca. Do I make something new or wear one of the dresses I've already made. There is still time, as it's not until the 2nd Sunday in September.Absolutely loving this sweat photo from the early 1930's. Her dress is dreamy with those red dots on a blue ground. It's likely cut on the bias to hug her curves and give a shapely silhouette. And the little girl dresses are pretty adorable too. I just want to jump into this picture and join them. Gatsby was super fun this year and made super special by @mementomoda_ who offered photo sittings. She captures the most amazing photos in such a shirt amount of time. This year has been a challenge for me time wise as well as loosing my mom. I’ve really looked forward to events where I can be with friends and dress up in vintage costumes. It transports me to my happy place, for which I am so so grateful. The pieces I put together for this years ensemble were made over the last 2 years. So there was no rush in throwing together an outfit. Hooray! I really needed a break from that experience. Also, since I e been going to a lot of 🧺 picnics lately, the experience was somewhat simplified. Oh and great thanks to @lisascenic & Robb for pulling off the most spectacular picnic tent around.
