Weil ich bin, wer ich bin - und er ist, wer er ist. Ein intensives Seminarwochenende liegt hinter uns. Dort wurden die Hunde am ersten Tag ohne aktive Einwirkung der Halter*innen eingeschätzt und dementsprechend Themen identifiziert, an denen gearbeitet werden kann. Berry wurde u.a. als emotional stabil, resilient und selbstbewusst eingeschätzt. Er ist auch jemand, der Menschen gerne zu seinem Vorteil nutzt - wenn auch charmant und relativ höflich. Er weiß, wer er ist und was er kann - und die Kooperation mit mir könnte durchaus besser sein. Er ist eben davon überzeugt, dass er die Dinge schon selber geregelt bekommt. Die Eigenschaften Wagemut und Risikobereitschaft waren wie mir ja auch durchaus nicht unbekannt - daher ist eben auch zu 99% eine Schleppleine an dem Hund. Und damit kommen wir zum Thema. Bislang dachte ich einfach, ich kriege es einfach nicht hin, einen 100% sicheren Rückruf zu etablieren, weil ich zu wenig oder falsch übe. Aber nein. Das Ding ist: ich könnte mit Berry tatsächlich noch eine ganze „Büchse der Pandora“ öffnen, die mich dann 1-2 Jahre intensive Arbeit kosten würde. Dann würde man über Zuständigkeiten, Verbindlichkeit, Führung usw. diskutieren. Denn so gut wir uns auch arrangiert haben: im Kern stellt er mich immer noch in Frage und wird daher immer wieder in gewissen Momenten selber ohne Rücksprache entscheiden (siehe verjagte Dogge, gestelltes Auto usw.). Es wurde mir dieses Wochenende eher davon abgeraten, dieses Fass in einem Intensivtraining aufzumachen, da Berry ein sehr diskussionsfreudiger Hund und selbstbewusster Typ ist - und man als Mensch natürlich auch in der Lage sein muss, sich dem zu stellen. Sonst wirkt man schnell unglaubwürdig, und ggf. könnten Dinge sogar eher ins Negative kippen. Gerade weil er keine großen Themen mehr hat, und wir uns gut im Alltag arrangiert haben, solle ich das lieber so lassen, wie es ist. Weiter in den Kommentaren…

Countdown to Ruby's 7th Gotcha Day. Ruby was found on March 6th, 2017, with her litter of 2 sisters and 3 brothers in an abandoned yard. At the time, her mother was thought to be an injured pekingese mix who was seen near the litter, but gone by the time the puppies were collected. They were malnourished, and the rescuer described their first drink at her shelter as the 'first of their life' Ruby left the shelter around 18/19th May 2017 when she had completed her vaccinations and was old enough to travel. It was a very long journey, with many dogs who were dropped off in Germany and France, before reaching Calais and taking the tunnel in to the UK. She was on the road for 5 days in total. At the time, she was believed to be 4 months old, based on the belief she was a 5 or 6 week old pekingese when she was found. In hindsight, with how much and how quickly she grew, it became clear she was no pekingese and was actually far younger when found. This meant she did this crazy trek across Europe at 3 months old. A very important month in any puppy's cognitive development. Added to other factors in Rubys life experience, health and young age, I don't think she ever recovered from the ordeal. She absolutely stunk when she arrived, she was so tired but wired, she pooed under the dining table within seconds of being home and ate a small meal. She saw her reflection in the cooker and TV and barked at herself. The first time I heard her little puppy bark. I remember how un dog like she was, she didn't prick up her ears when a packet rustled. She ran away from flies, She had no idea what stairs were, didn't bark at the door, no idea about playing, and found it very hard to settle on her bed. But despite what she went through and how nervous she was, as this terrified little stinky dog was handed to me on my drive at 4am with no communication possible between myself and the driver, she melted in to my arms and let me hold her, she knew on some level, I was safe. 𝑯𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒚 𝑺𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒚🩷 Little love bug officially got adopted today she has gone off to her forever family and I couldn’t be happier for her but also super sad that I won’t see her cheeky little face every single morning! Becoming a foster is so worth it this sweet girlie has helped my boys so much especially Truffles she has helped him to understand that not all dogs are bad and he is safe to just exist without a reaction! She has also learnt what love means, what being a dog is all about🩷 We wish her all the best for her future and can’t wait to see updates of how she gets on with her new family… Now we are taking a small break from fostering to concentrate on the boys training again and will be taking on another foster in a couple of weeks! I walked up, saw this guy, heard they were calling him Batman and boom. I was in love. He has been renamed to Lando. Batman was Marley’s thing. News flash. SCARLETT has her very own forever home! Scarlett was one of our girls who came from a Georgia breeder. She’s a beautiful, sweet, English Cocker. Scarlett was very shy at first, but her first foster mom, Louise, put her at ease and she was soon coming out of her shell and ready for a new adventure. Louise decided it would be best if she had a home with a fenced yard. A hard decision for Louise to make since she loved Scarlett so much. But that is what a good foster mom does. She does what is right for her foster to excel. Luckily we had a home available with a yard. Scarlett transitioned easily into her new home and was so happy running in the yard. We posted her for adoption and were so upset that it took a while for someone to fall in love with her. Good things are worth waiting for. It happened! Scarlett now has the most wonderful home with a very experienced cocker owner and a great back yard to hang out in. We are so thrilled for Scarlett and her new mom. Thank you, Louise and Christina, for working your magic on Scarlett and being patient and loving. You made all of the difference in the world for this sweet girl who lived her entire life in a kennel having puppies. I’m doing the 75 Hard to keep me occupied and motivated while I rehabilitate. But one extra benefit I had not considered was how it aligns with benefitting everyone around me including these two little ladies. Dr. Hedi @greencross_gabba is Bambie’s Angel! Checked me today and YAY no major issues. I like seeing her she’s always so gentle and genuinely caring and mum likes seeing her too because she explains things very comprehensively. I got my annual vaccination plus my monthly arthritis injection and mum needs to take me back for teeth cleaning soon, not looking forward to that one brrr. My spleen issue seems like it has not increased over time so mum is still hesitant to get my spleen removed.
