After 3-4 hours sleep… my final hike 🥾 is done ✅ before the big day next week! Which I am beginning to get so so nervous for! 🏔️ 🏴 🏴 🏴 My body is a wee bit knackered… it is going to be so hard to stop myself from doing anything for a whole week! I’m going to be a nightmare to live with! Poor gi! 3 peaks challenge attempt - Scafell Pike Feet didn’t feel great starting Scafell Pike, but eventually it becomes a numb pain. Summited in 2 hours and started making my way down. The aim was to do Scafell Pike in 3 hours and before sunset, but I somehow managed to get lost on the way down. When I realised, it was a scramble trying to get back on a path and it just completely dropped my morale. I ended up having to climb over the neighbouring peak, Lingmell, to get back on the right side of the mountain. Another colleague met me at the stream and we made our way down, making it back to the car just after sunset. Now I knew going down was going to take a tole on my knees, so I was wearing knee braces the whole time. But I did NOT anticipate my quads BURNING as much as they did. My hiking poles were effectively used as crutches on the way down that mountain. I was a bit pissed off with myself because I ended up spending more time on Scafell Pike then Ben Nevis! By this time my legs were barely supporting me, couldn’t really bend my knees because my quads couldn’t take it, so I ended up waddling around the service stations. I knew I had no chance completing Snowdon within the 24 hours in my condition, let alone in the dark, not to mention we were behind schedule; and with the fear of getting lost on the mountain deeply ingrained by this point, I decided to tap out. All in all, I was pleased with where I got to and the times I was getting near the beginning. It was just a shame I didn’t go up the last mountain. Unsure how I feel about attempting this again... I need to let the hiking amnesia fully set in. 3 peaks challenge attempt - Ben Nevis We flew to Scotland and stayed the night for an early start on the first mountain. I managed to do Ben Nevis in sub 5 hours (3 up and 2 down), which I was pretty happy with. It was exhausting, but still optimistic for the next two hikes. Running down definitely caused a few hot spots to form. Patched these up as soon as I got back to the car because one of my big worries was getting blisters. Hi , This year in aid of Cancer Research UK I’m doing both the Abbott Yorkshire Three Peaks (12 July) and Abbott National Three Peaks Challenge's (31 May – 2 June). Whilst we are very lucky in this case, we know that for most people with this disease the prognosis is far far worse . Hopefully with everyone's support through donations Cancer research will be able to find new detection methods and treatments to help cure and prevent cancer. I finally did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, and it was bloody brilliant.
