🌿 PART II: A holistic worldview on organic products 🌿 Our choices actually make a big difference - everything on this earth is intertwined, and is a part of a holistic circle where all of our choices affects the things around us. Pesticides and also herbicides, fungicides and insecticides are made to kill organisms. Some people argue that the pesticides we consume are only in small doses, too small to matter. But these small doses are changing the world around us. It is decreasing the biodiversity in our soil, killing our bees, poisoning our fish and birds, and seeping down into our drinking water. Even if these are not reasons enough, we humans cannot separate ourselves from these processes. If insects and soil-biodiversity is damaged, farmers have to use increasing amounts of chemicals to grow food, which traps us in a cycle where more and more pesticides are used. And these have direct harmful consequences for our health and wellbeing. I know that it is difficult to make the shift - and I recognise that certainly not everyone has the privilege to be able to do so. But in our little pocket of the world, a lot of people do have the means to make this choice, but they still don't. Those who have the opportunity to do so, have to make the choice not to poison our earth - our soil, our water, our animals and our fellow humans. This is why I only use organic ingredients in my formulations, why we want to support organic farmers in all parts of the world - and it’s why I talk about making the organic choice, all the time! As much as we would love to spend our days off sitting on the couch watching Netflix, we tend to try out shops and restaurants across Tasmania instead. So this is the start of our new post series we're calling "Monday Meandering." ~ With an early start this morning, we headed for @jacksonmotorcompany in Burnie to get Jules' Triton serviced, with a quick breakfast stop at @breadandbuttertasmania on Elizabeth Street in Launceston. Then onto @nest_on_risby in Ulverstone, where we got some great winter clothes and Ash got a beautiful new sign that we plan to use at @urbanwinewalk on the 28th! Next stop was @ghost_rock_wines for a beautiful lunch, wine tasting and tour of the winery! A huge thank you to Laura for her amazing informational tasting and Sierra (and her puppy Squid) for the winery tour! Their passion for the business and the wine industry as a whole was so great to see and experience. Our final stop on the way home was in Latrobe to see some old friends who've become family. And of course Ash couldn't leave without saying hi to their cute little pony Barney. 🌿 PART II: A holistic worldview on organic products 🌿 Our choices actually make a big difference - everything on this earth is intertwined, and it is part of a holistic circle where all of our choices have effects all around us. The purpose of pesticides - herbicides, fungicides, insecticides - all of them are made to kill organisms. Some people argue that the pesticides we consume are only in small doses, too small to matter. But these small doses are changing the world around us. It is decreasing the biodiversity in our soil, killing our bees, poisoning our fish and birds, and seeping down into our drinking water. Even if these are not reasons enough, we humans cannot separate ourselves from these processes. If insects and soil-biodiversity are killed, farmers have to use increasing amounts of chemicals to grow food, which traps us in a cycle where more and more pesticides are used. And these have direct harmful consequences for our health and wellbeing. I know that it is difficult to make the shift - and I recognise that certainly not everyone has the privilege to be able to do so. But in our little pocket of the world, a lot of people that do have the means to make this choice, they still do not do it. Those that have the opportunity to do so, have to make the choice to not poison our earth - our soil, our water, our animals and our fellow humans. This is why I only use organic ingredients in my formulations, why we want to support organic farmers in all parts of the world - and it’s why I talk about making the organic choice, all the time! One of these amazing plants is camelina sativa, also known as 'gold of pleasure'. Camelina is an ancient crop that dates 3000+ years back.
