So it has been 500 days!! Since I have drank, smoked or took anything else. That's 1 year, 4 months and 15 days and I can't say I've missed any of it. It has been an amazing journey. I have spoken to many people, some further on in their journey, some considering their use and some who just think i'm mad 😂 It has been great for me on many levels and some I am still understanding. If you are thinking you want to do anything, it starts with the first step and you go from there, it's easier than you think. What started as dry january in 2022 has turned into a new lifestyle. The gym has been great both mentally and physically and the support from friends family and followers has been motivating. I have still been having fun going out and it has helped both my music and dj'ing. Let's see where this takes me into the future. R.I.P. Steve Albini. Today on the show we’ll pay tribute to musician, engineer, producer and provocateur Steve Albini who passed away yesterday at the age of 61. In addition to being in Big Black and Shellac, Steve produced so many great records that are core to KEXP including albums from Nirvana, Pixies, P.J. Harvey, the Breeders, Also on the show, lots of IDLES! As I’m reflecting back on personal highlights of 50 years DJing and working in music ( #kev50), a major recent highlight for me has been IDLES. Of the song @thechemicalbrothers say “the song makes us emotional with its feeling of love and brotherhood/sisterhood without boundaries.” I too feel inspired by the poem and also feel that same way about music and Drive Time. 🌟 3 Months Today AF WAHOO 🎉 Very pleased to have 3 months under my 2024 belt, a quarter of the year complete 😄 although inside, my Soul is telling me this is a forever change 👌🏻💫 I haven't struggled with staying AF, I think because I'd got my MINDSET in gear first, so important. I've been working towards living an AF life for the last few years so every fibre of my being was soooooo ready to just completely leave Alcohol behind 👋🏻 In 2023 from 1st Jan I completed 100 days AF, so although today is a good acheivement, my next milestone of completing 101 days is the one I'm looking forward to the most as I'm breaking new territory 🚀 it'll be the longest AF period in my Adult life 💃🏻 These past 3 months, I've only experienced one real strong desire to have a drink & that was this very week, to celebrate my debut Radio Show being aired on @freshsoundzradio 😁🎧🎙🎚🎶 This was a BIG personal achievement for me in my DJ Career @djkmarieibiza and any milestones like this, I would have 100% marked with celebratory drinks 🍾 This time, for the first time since being a child, I learnt how to celebrate WITHOUT alcohol being a part of it. Instead, after the show aired, I sat with myself and FELT all of the feelings going through me. I soaked in all of them, the relief, the pride, the joy, the happiness, the sense of growth, personal acheivement, of perservering through my fears & limiting beliefs, I pushed through all of those SIN Alcohol & learnt that the FEELINGS are the reward, they ARE the celebration🎉🥰..........no Alcohol necessary 😉 Sending out love & positive vibes to anyone out there on or considering an AF mission. Today marks one year of sobriety, a milestone I once thought unattainable. Last year, I was feeling helpless and trapped in a cycle that I couldn’t break. Two years AF. Two years without booze. The alcohol gone, the lead into dodgy decisions, dubious phone calls to some Albanian chap and that late-night madness no more. The addiction that filtered me, made me acceptable to others and masked my masking is 24 months gone. My liver is grateful, the chemist uncertain why their dioralyte and 5HTP sales dropped so hard, my wallet (almost) fuller, and my life better. Like many, it was less the booze and more the flights of afters fancy that proved so destructive. Pissed and f*****, the only way this undiagnosed autistic soul could cope for decades. The social interactions, the disco decisions, the chats, the limelight, the disco politics, and the sensory overload are seemingly better when numb. Turns out I only managed all that as an adult with a drink in my hand, 34 years with a drink in my hand. Many more years with the addictive more in my pocket. But the result was always less. Less able to cope with the fallout, the downturn that hit my head’s trajectory every Tuesday, less able to be the decent partner, the reliable workmate, the real version of me. But in replacing one set of addicted stereotypes with a new set of autistic ones life hasn’t always been as rose-tinted as the loss of my once full glass would suggest. Nightclubs are way louder, you guys are even tougher to read, my words are overthought even more, and the sensory overload tough to ride out. But the clarity that comes from really remembering that last tune, of sleeping at night, of ceilings uninspected till dawn, and learning you don’t have to throw yourself into a space, a lifestyle, a gang, a party you really don’t fit into is blinding. Something Kym Sims and my opticians would only confirm I’m sure. Without the blurred lines, I see it now. I choose my parties, my crowds, my community. I fit because I want to. I dance because I love to. I’m random because I am. I say the wrong things sometimes because we all do. I fly because I want to. No more Albanian airlines for me. 2 years ago I made a decision to give up alcohol. So I went on a journey to find some tools to help me. I came across this book ‘The easy way for women to stop drinking’ by @allencarrseasyway & to my great surprise, the want or need to drink was gone. I had put in work along the way but this helped me finalise it. I wasn’t an alcoholic, much to the outright assumption of so many people. I was a festive drinker but for many who I have spoken to, it seems the only justifiable reason that I could give up drinking, was due to this. For a while I stopped talking about it when asked because it seemed to trigger people. A conversation with a friend changed that. They said I could potentially help some by showing that it’s possible to do cool things without alcohol. So that’s why I’m sharing. Do I miss it? No. I don’t miss feeling sick, anxious, spending money, wasted time, eating crappy food or feeling low. Some good things I noticed when I stopped drinking: +I slept better through the night +Less general anxiety +I saved $$ +Clearer skin came about 4 months in +I lost 4kg & remain the same weight- I used to yo-yo +I am more connected to myself and my purpose +I found healthier ways to deal with stress The not so good things I noticed: +I realised i had been masking past trauma & anxiety which surfaced about 4 months in. It continues to sneak through but I handle this with different therapies +I rely more on caffeine at night gigs but if I can squeeze a nap in, I don’t need it +People can be quite rude when I tell them I don’t drink. Thankfully I know it has nothing to do with me. To be clear, i have zero judgement for people who drink but if you are thinking about changing to an alcohol free life, I assure you it’s possible. I have soo much fun behind the dj decks, at parties, clubs & social gatherings. I just get to drive home and wake up every day feeling fresh ✨

W naszym ciele, w naszej głowie a co za tym idzie w całym naszym życiu 🌈 A dodam jeszcze, że mój najdłuższy CUG ALKOHOLOWY trwał aż 8️⃣ lat. Piłem wówczas codziennie (nie licząc krótkiej przerwy w trakcie budowania związku). Wygrać z nałogiem udało mi się SAMEMU! ☺️ Bez terapii, bez pomocy kogoś z zewnątrz (mam na myśli specjalistów, nie dobre dusze, bo tych nie brakuje 🙏🏾). To nie jest aż tak trudne, nie bój się 😉 Podstawa to szczerość przed sobą i naprawdę szczere uświadomienie sobie, że już nie chcesz. Ale pamiętaj, że jeśli potrzebujesz pomocy w tej kwestii to nie bój się o nią poprosić lub skorzystać z pomocy zawodowców. This is a pretty lean month for me, and expenses are higher than ever. Rent went up this year, benefits expired, assistance programs ended etc. And I have some medical expenses now. I'm manifesting stability in 2024 - I'd just like to breathe and sleep better tbh. Trips and gigs out of town are nice aspirations, but I'll settle for a meat & potatoes 2024 ngl. Working with a couple new venues this winter, TBA. I gave up drinking 6 months ago today for the third time in 4 years. I think back to when I first stopped and was genuinely concerned that I would no longer want to dj or listen to house music because of a life long association of house music with partying. But I couldn’t have been further from the truth. I enjoy DJing, house music & everything else in life a trillion times more than when I was drinking. It was the nicest party atmosphere we've ever experienced, with a lovely bunch of friendly, interesting, and joyful people.
