Curious about hiring an overnight postpartum doula? As a postpartum doula I am here to nurture and care for your newborn while you heal and catch up on rest. The goal for all overnight shifts is to maximize the amount of sleep you receive, supporting you as you ease into the demands of parenthood. I will come in and greet you. We discuss how the day went, ask any questions you may have, go over educational pieces, and simply be a warm and listening ear for all that may have come up. How you plan to structure the night moving forward is completely up to you. If FORMULA FEEDING, you can go to sleep and not have to worry about waking up with your baby until morning. Doula will cover all bottle feeds, and will track feeds, diapers, wakes, in night log. While baby is sleeping Doula will also help wash and sanitize bottles and pump parts. If BREAST FEEDING, your doula can bring your baby to you for each feed overnight. When you are done nursing, your doula will take care of settling your baby back to sleep. She will take care of all waking’s and diaper changes. We also wash, dry, fold, and put away baby laundry. IF BREAST FEEDING + BOTTLE FEEDING, your doula can bring your baby to you every other feeding (with you either pumping or sleeping through the bottle feeds). If pumping, we can assemble and bring everything to you. Once you are finished, we will collect milk and store properly. Overnight shifts can range from 8-12 hours (8p-8am). The average contract is around 2-4 months. Some families book for shorter and others longer. We are open to all bookings and are always happy to extend. Travel support is also available upon inquiry. Memorial Day is almost here! A time filled with so many fun BBQ’s, events, and fireworks. Here is a list of tips and tricks for navigating the busy, but exciting times with your baby/children. 🇺🇸 If you are hosting - Make as much of the food ahead of time as possible and decorate ahead of time. Schedule the party for after naptime and don’t be afraid to ask for help! Ask a family member or hire a mothers helper. If the party overlaps with bed time, turn up the sound machine and determine how far you can walk before the connection drops. 🇺🇸 If attending a party- If it’s scheduled during a nap time, ask if it’s okay to go late (schedules are essential for your baby and getting off it will only make things harder and unenjoyable). If you can't avoid changing up the schedule, the baby may sleep if you baby wear, or see if they have a dark quiet space you can set up a pac n’ play (bring a sound machine). You can also just wing it and have a couple hard nights getting back on track! 🇺🇸 Make sure you have everything: sunscreen, bug spray (for kids over one), toys, snacks, formula, feeding supplies, pumping supplies, extra clothes, towel and bathing suits if there will be swimming, diaper, wipes, motrin/tylenol/teething drops, sound machine, stroller, baby carrier, sun hat. 🇺🇸 Outside and firework tips: set up a pac n’ play outside with toys inside. You can put a cover (see link) on the top to keep the baby covered. How to handle short naps! Naps are not only important for babies to thrive physically and mentally, but they are also the time of day that many parents rely on in order to get things done. But many children struggle to get more than one full sleep cycle in for naps; often waking up between 30-45 minutes in. One full sleep cycle is at least 45 minutes for babies over four months old, so if your baby is sleeping less than that, they are definitely not getting the restorative sleep that they need. Preferably, babies’ naps should be 1-3 hours long depending on their age. For newborns especially, short naps are very common, but it is so important that they get at least 1-2 naps a day that are at least 1-1.5 hours long. So, what do you do when your baby is in a cycle of naps that are too short?
