My #DragonsOfTheSabbats #CoinDisplay Set arrived yesterday. I bought this from @AnneStokesArt on #Etsy. This is a #WoodenCoinDisplay with 8 metal Dragons of the Sabbats #Coins. The back of the coins have #Runes and the names for each #Sabbat. This can be used as the #WheelOfTheYear. You can move it around so the current sabbat is at the top. The set includes a black velvet pouch with the Wheel of the Year in runes printed on it in silver. A small book on the #Sabbats with #DragonArtwork by #AnneStokes. And a #SignedPostcard by Anne. #HappyBeltane. 🔥🌳🧚‍♂️ #Beltane is named after the #Celtic #SunGod #Belenus and is a fire fertility and #Fairy/ #Faery festival. Fire is extremely prevalent in Beltane festivities. As it symbolises the sun’s increasing power and the warmth that encourages growth and fertility. Beltane fire festivals involves fire dances and a procession by costumed performers led by the May Queen and the Green Man culminating in the lighting of a #Bonfire. In ancient times a main bonfire served as the source for all new fires within the community. Home hearth fires were extinguished and then relit using a torch originating from the main fire. This act brought people together after the harsh unfarmable winter as they passed the torch from home to home. A substantial part of the fire ritual saw gatherings of animals passing between two bonfires. I was lucky enough to be given my #WaterBottle I use it instead of buy plastic bottles of water. My new #IncenseBurner arrived yesterday. I bought it from a seller on #Etsy called @Karma.Syndikat in Germany. The #Burner is made of #Soapstone and has a stainless steel strainer/mesh on top where you place the loose incense or herbs. To burn the incense or herbs you place a tealight underneath instead of charcoal. I'm going to buy some coconut wax tealight as these are the most environmentally friendly ones. I did find out that soapstone can scratch easily so I'll have to be careful. The incense burner is quite big measuring 8cms high and 12.5cms in diameter. The strainer/mesh measures just off 10cms in diameter. My #BelenusFigurine arrived this morning. I bought him to go on my #BeltaneAltar. Here we see #Belenus standing tall wearing male #Celtic clothing including a cloak and a crown behind his head is a headdress in the shape of the #Sun and he is holding #Flames in both hands. His feet is surrounded by purple and white flowers. Belenus also known as #Belinos or #Belenos is one of the most important Celtic deities. As the #CelticGod of fire he was worshiped primarily in #Gaul and #Britain. Belenus is associated with the sun healing protection and prophecy. The name Belenus is thought to come from the Celtic root bel which means "bright" or "shining." Belenus was an important deity in Celtic religion and his worship continued into the Roman period where he was sometimes amalgamated with Apollo the Roman sun god. The festival #Beltane is a Celtic word meaning “the fires of Bel.” Bel referring to the Celtic #SunGod Belenus. The Celts used to light two bonfires because they believed it would purify themselves as well as increase their fertility. Due to all the wet weather we'd had it was very muddy and slippery getting to the part of the #Forest I normally go which made it difficult but I made it. Today is #WorldKidneyDay. World Kidney Day is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness of the importance of our #Kidneys. On March 14th help us bring millions of people together to share the message that #KidneysMatter. Lets talk about our experiences with friends family colleagues social media followers and local media sharing what it is like to live with #KidneyDisease will really help to raise awareness. My experience is of having #KidneyFailure back in 2015 after a doctor at my health centre examined me and my swollen ankles and diagnosed me with having kidney disease and told me to go to hospital ( #SouthmeadHospital). After the biopsy I had to have blood transfusions and #Dialysis. I'm a lot better now and all I have to do is go to the renal outpatients department at hospital for check-ups. My #KidneyHeroes are my parents for being there with me everyday when I was in hospital. Today is the last day of the #ChineseNewYearFestival (Actually it could have been yesterday). It finishes with #TheLanternFestival. In ancient times the #Lanterns were fairly simple and only the emperor and noblemen had large ornate lanterns. In modern times lanterns have been embellished with many complex designs. For example lanterns are now often made in the shape of animals. The lanterns can symbolise the people letting go of their past selves and getting new ones which they will let go of the next year. The lanterns are almost always red to symbolise good fortune. My #DragonDancer #PinBadge arrived yesterday afternoon. Just in-time for the #ChineseNewYear which started today. It is a 15-day festival so I we be wearing it the whole time. If you were not aware it is #YearOfTheDragon (actually the #YearOfTheWoodDragon). I bought this on #Etsy from #AnneStokes. This is based on her artwork with the same name. The other pin badge you could buy (you can buy the whole collection) was #DragonMage but I thought this on was more ideal for the Chinese New Year. It arrived inside a #ChineseStyle envelope with a fortune inside (like from inside a fortune cookie). Mine says: Dream Big. The front of the envelope has Chinese characters which say something like: Best Wishes or All The Best or May All Your Hopes Be Fulfilled. And it also has a #Dragon. My #OstaraFigurine arrived Monday. I bought her to go on my #SpringEquinoxAltar. She represents the #Germanic #GodessOfSpring and Dawn. Here we see #Ostara standing tall wearing a long flowing dress holding a small bunch of red roses. A #Hare sits peacefully below by her feet which is surrounded by red flowers. The #AngloSaxon name for her was #Eostre. She is also the #GoddessOfNewBeginnings. There seem to be two versions of the story of Eostre and the hare One is that she found a bird with frozen wings and saved it by transforming it into a hare which retained the ability to lay eggs. The other is that a bird who laid beautiful eggs was so proud that Eostre was annoyed and turned it into a hare but she was so moved by the rabbit’s despair that she allowed it to lay beautiful eggs once a year. Happy #Imbolc everyone.🕯 The celebration of Imbolc originates from the #Celts. It is sometimes called #Oimelc. Imbolc symbolises the halfway point between the winter solstice (Yule) and the spring equinox (Ostara). The word "Imbolc" means "in the belly of the Mother" because the seeds of spring are beginning to stir in the belly of Mother Earth. The term "Oimelc" means ewe's milk. Around this time of year many herd animals give birth to their first offspring of the year or are heavily pregnant. As a result they are producing milk. This creation of life’s milk is a part of the symbolic hope for spring. Milk products are used in Imbolc rituals because of this. This holiday also celebrates the #CelticGoddess #Brigid (see my last post). The Celts used to make a doll of the #GoddessBrigid from oat or wheat straw. They would make a dress for the doll and put it in a basket with a white flower bedding. Young girls would carry the dolls door to door and gifts are given from each household. A small cross often woven from straw or rushes is made on Imbolc called a #BrigidsCross. Hanging a Brigid's cross in your house is believed to bring her blessing and protection for the remainder of the year. Goddess of #Ireland she appears in Irish mythology as a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann the daughter of the #Dagda and wife of #Bres with whom she had a son named Ruadán As you can see from the figurine she holds a #SacredFlame and she also has a #Cauldron . On the day of Imbolc people light #Bonfires and have a feast to honor Brigid. As a blacksmith she would make cauldrons. She is also the goddess of the #SacredWell. I would say they are shorter then some incense sticks you can get.
