Unapologetically embracing the extraordinary. In a world of choices, I choose to be authentically me. 💪✨ #UnapologeticWoman #ExtraordinaryChoices #OwnYourStory "In a world echoing with predefined expectations, I choose my own authenticity. Embracing my unique identity means I am following the rhythm of my own beliefs and aspirations. Refusing to be confined by societal stereotypes, I break free from the paralyzing grip of patriarchal norms. Liberation is found in the bold strokes of individuality, painting a canvas that defies the limitations imposed on women. I am not just a part of the narrative; I am the author, shaping my story with courage and conviction. There is a choice between playing it safe and evolving. It is easy and quite tempting to remain in an unchallenging space. Cling to what is because we are familiar with it and its outcomes. There is an allure in knowing or being told how to navigate a space. The unchallenging space may seem safe, but it blinds us to the possibilities beyond. We believe it to be more difficult to take a chance, ask a different question or dare to take a risk. We overlook what is lost when we stay within the familiar, missing the Success waiting just beyond these parameters. Without realising we are choosing between the ordinary and the extraordinary. READ THE CAPTION 👇! . . "In the grand orchestration of life's choices, there lies a profound decision that transcends mere existence – the choice to be an asset, not merely an option. To embody the essence of being an asset is to contribute value that resonates beyond the ordinary, to be an indispensable force that elevates every interaction and endeavor. It's about cultivating skills, knowledge, and a mindset that not only align with personal growth but also enrich the collective landscape of those fortunate enough to engage with you. As an asset, you become a cornerstone in the architecture of success, a catalyst for positive change, and a beacon of reliability in a world that often craves substance. In choosing this path, you embark on a journey of self-discovery, continuous improvement, and a commitment to leaving an enduring impact. So, let your choices reflect the intention to be an asset – a force that shapes destinies, amplifies potential, and stands as a testament to the extraordinary in a world that frequently settles for the ordinary. 🌐💎 🏖 On This Journey Of Success, Hit That Follow Button 👇 👉 Follow @escapersdomain 👈 👉 Follow @escapersdomain 👈 👉 Follow @escapersdomain 👈 . . . . . Killing two birds with one stone: personal development + self-care = hyper-growth I am truly grateful that I have the access to knowledge, that I was born in an era where women are celebrated for their intelligence and encouraged to realise their potential. Yes, the patriarchy is still very much alive, but it is being silenced and reduced as more and more women are stepping into their power. Everything is available to us, we are able to grow our strengths and manage our imperfections - we are able to change our own lives by actively participating in taking the steps to greatness as opposed to sidelining ourselves out of fear of what people will think or say. I've thrown the proverbial box away. I'm colouring outside the lines. I'm making my own rules. I'm dancing barefoot in the rain. I'm taking risks. I'm making mistakes. I'm learning from them. I'm failing forward. I'm succeeding. I'm exceeding my own expectations. I'm growing. I'm glowing. And I will not shrink to my greatness as there is so much more inside me to explore, to nurture, to grow. This is my life and I am LIVING it every second of the day. #ordinarywoman #extraordinarychoices #moving #failingforward #personaldevelopment #thehumanspirit #risks #growth #selfcare #momsthathustle #itsmytime

#lifechoices #wisechoices #livinginwisdom #choiceyourownlife #thechoiceisyours #lifeiswhatyoumakeit #extraordinarychoices At some point we have all blamed something or someone for where we are in life, but the PURE TRUTH is we decided, we chose, we allowed, yes we are the reason we are where we are. Self-Awareness and Self-Reflection goes hand in hand when working on our honesty to ourselves. Be real with yourself and own your accountability for the choices you have made whether by default, influence, or consciously. Choose a new path today and begin living the life you want. Don't be another victim to society's robotic system. The choice is ALWAYS yours!

Payal Rajankar Chef Payal Rajankar was born and raised in the city of Chennai. Payal started cooking in class 10 when she wanted to escape studying for her board exams. Needless to say, she got very average marks but she had learnt to cook a little bit! It was then she realised that it is her passion and what she wanted to do in life. Life certainly has a funny way of showing you things! She studied at The Culinary Academy of India, Hyderabad and thereafter worked with The Oberoi group of Hotels for a little over five years. She considers this as a great experience, working as the Junior sous chef at their Udaipur hotel, but she moved back to Chennai eventually. She took some time off and started her own little venture in July 2018 called ‘The Gourmet Gig’. It truly was a fulfilling experience, right from finding the right name, getting the logo designed, printing business cards to making menus, trials, putting up the website and the works. The concept of her business was to allow herself & her guests to experience old & new cuisines, experiment with them & keep it fun! She loves working on the presentation of the food as much as the flavour. It's been a year since she had started the business, and is thankful to the people of Chennai for their love & support. She wouldn't have done this any other way. #youngheroes #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar #madras #heroesamongus #chef #cheflife #morepowertoyou

We are back again with our 'Young People, Extraordinary choices' series. We start off the series with Mr. Gopinath Gopinath is the senior Sub-editor/reporter at The New Indian Express where he handle the Entertainment division. His work involves meeting and interviewing celebrities on a daily basis and reviewing films. This type of work is something that he never anticipated considering his degree is in Biological Sciences. As a typical 90s kid, he grew up watching a lot of films on the Telly. The magical world of cinema took him to a new place which he considered as an easy route to escape from realism. When studying abroad, especially in a city like London, even basics seems like luxury for a student. One of the cineplexes there had an offer where he could watch as many movies as he wanted for the price of just two tickets. Gopi exploited this opportunity and would turn up at the theatres without knowing what's playing. He would watch random films at the cineplex. He spent a major chunk of his time engrossed in movies just as much time spent at Uni, home and work. This is how Gopi turned from a movie buff to a Film Journalist. #youngheroes #extraordinarychoices #heroesamongus #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar #chennai #madras If you would like to nominate yourself or someone who inspires us, leave us a DM!

Something to ponder - What if instead of looking at situations with only two options - left or right, this or that, here or there, up or down, right or wrong - there were actually several other options in between the two? What else is possible when looking at all the between? #smallchoices #extraordinarychoices

I could go on and on about how amazing @daniellemercurio is. But I’ll keep it short and sweet - she was my business coach and working with her was the catalyst to get me out of my own way and really aligned in my business. She gently showed me everything I already possessed, which led me to truly believing I could make this all happen. ⁣ ⁣ So, when she asked me to be on her podcast, Curiously Confident (which is one of my favorite podcasts), it was a hell yes! And, the episode is LIVE ! Give it a listen (Season 2, Ep 9, and link in my bio). Wr had a great conversation all about shifting beyond comfort zones, being a workaholic, and I talk a lot about my journey. (And when you’re done w this episode, listen to the rest, too! It’s a GREAT podcast!) ⁣ ⁣ #smallchoices #extraordinarychoices

Aishwarya Swaminathan Aishwarya has an engineering degree and was raised by a single parent. She initially never had a clear idea as to what engineering was, but slowly she fell in love what she studied and did. Her mom has been her constant inspiration at all stages of life. Aishwarya has always had the thirst to learn more and felt a definite need to do something. She competed her Masters in Business Administration while she simultaneously worked. She works as a software professional where she meets a lot of people who can talk in lengths about technology and latest advancements. In her journey of constantly searching for something more, she learnt that she has the ability to pen down her thoughts well. In the form of blogs, poems, short stories, nano tales of sorts. That’s when she became a part of the open-mics happening in Chennai and immensely enjoyed doing it. There was a particular incident when she first came out of her comfort zone and wrote a poem on body positivity called ‘We are not a size zero’ and had an opportunity to recite it in one of the open mics. The response she received was amazing. People loved that piece. They clapped, laughed, smiled and thoroughly enjoyed throughout the recitation. That’s one of the best experiences she cherishes. One more reason to love ART and our city MADRAS!! Hosting an event for Let’s Talk Life was another overwhelming experiences. Something that she look forward is to write more sensible posts / poetry. The intent is to try and give back to the society through knowledge sharing. She hopes to author a book sometime in the future. #heroesamongus #youngpeople #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar

Nivetha Velupur Nivedha completed her MA in French and her current specialisation in translation and interpretation. Since her first stint as an interpreter for a French documentary filmmaker in 2012, she has been hooked to the translation and interpretation field. Curiosity and her willingness to experiment led her to several opportunities during her undergrad programme: content writing, reporting (it was in between researching for an article that she took the DALF C1 exam), and finally, translating. She realised that she was truly happy translating because it felt like she was being paid to learn. She joined the translation cell of the Alliance Française in Chennai as a freelancer in 2014 and got to translate content from various domains, a majority of them being technical in nature. The next logical step seemed getting some formal training under her belt, hence her decision to join JNU, New Delhi, which had practicing translators and interpreters teach the course. She worked for the Alliance Française in Chennai as the Head of the Translation Cell after completing her MA and quit the job a little over a year later to take up a wide variety of projects and have been freelancing again since August 2017. It was indeed a struggle establishing herself in a field that she barely had any idea about and finding clients, marketing herself, taking full responsibility for all the business decisions she makes. But, one of the things that kept her going is the amazing solidarity in this community internationally. Translators and interpreters who have worked for the UN and who might otherwise have more than 2 decades of experience under their belt are willing to motivate, guide and share their knowledge. They continually encourage colleagues whom they might have never met in person. Nivetha works with publishing houses (Swiss, British, American, French), NGOs, individuals who are experts in their fields (agriculturalist, civil engineer, other consultants), translation agencies across the continents, editing studios, advertisement and educational agencies. #heroesamongus #youngpeople #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar

Akhil Nichani Akhil is an Urban Farmer. He has a bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering from SRM university. Akhil graduated on May 1st 2018. He has always loved playing around with electronics, even as a child. He couldn't wait to take apart something and learn how to put it back together. ECE was a natural choice for his bachelors degree. While surfing the web sometime around the beginning of 2014 the concept of soil-less farming caught his attention. He felt the cencept was very different from every other field out there. It started out as a hobby around 4 years ago, growing greens for home use and at one point he just knew its what he was going to take up full time after university. ‘Sustenance’ stands for Sustainable Urban Agriculture. Akhil is currently setting up his first pilot farm in Kilpauk to provide produce such as greens and herbs grown in a clean, fertiliser free environment. The ability to do so much with so little is what inspired him. Watching a plant grow from a small seed to a mature plant is magical according to him. It never ceases to excite him. Trying to add in a sustainability to the farming keeps the challenge going on. Another factor is the lack of clean locally grown produce. Most of the vegetables travel a minimum of 50 km before they reach the final destination. Akhil works with 2 highly motivated people, Vikram and Maulin who are around the same age as him. They have different educational backgrounds but at the same time have similar thought processes and compliment each other. Some of Sustenance’s produce includes sprouts (Green Gram, Black Gram, Horse Gram, Black Eye Pea) and microgreens (Red Radish, Black Mustard, Japanese White Radish). Sustenance is an urban farming startup working to change the way food is grown and consumed. We grow our products Aquaponically and Hydroponically and treat them with care to deliver the best quality produce. #heroesamongus #youngpeople #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar

Rashida Rashida was raised in a very traditional and conventional muslim family where the ultimate goal for a girl is to get married, bear children, take care of the house and keep her husband happy. Education is something that was encouraged, hence, she pursued her Bachelors in Bank Management and Masters in HR Management. Rashida got married soon and had a baby girl. Life was set as a house wife with typical in-laws/family issues. Things changed when she was called a good for nothing which haunted her. How could a class topper be a good for nothing? She was depressed about everything. She began to believe that this was her destiny. Rashida frequently visited her neighbour who had two kids with special needs, they had every reason to be complain but were smiling and happy. So the pursuit of Job hunting started and most of the job offers were from BPOs. It was unimaginable to start working with a 1 year old at home. Finally, she was called from Sify Technologies for a ‘Trainee’ position. Initially, they weren’t sure if she was a good hire. Rashida was a lot older than the rest and not as smart or fast as them. She did not give up and it wasn't an option. Her corporate career has been of 7 years in MnC’s like Thomson Reuters & AON Hewitt but learning has been wonderful. Her confidence increased and so did her courage to dream. She was a single working mum for 7 years and life did throw challenges regularly. Rashida took a sabbatical from corporate world (in 2011) however she continued to work flexi hours as a HR consultant. She started with a capital of 60k & 50 dresses to sell a completely new concept in our Saree loving traditional Chennai. She did not have the Capital to start a store & decided to work from home. She named her brand “s e q u e n c e”. One of her ex bosses suggested to start selling on Facebook and slowly it got popular. From 50 to 800 dresses per quarter sales target life was fun. She travelled to various cities showcasing her garments, supplying to leading stores and enjoyed designing! Mridula Ganesan Mridula always knew that she wanted to be in a creative field. No matter what she did, she needed a creative outlet to express herself. While in school, she enjoyed art, sports and dance. During college, it was Calligraphy and baking + cake decorating. Mridula is a Textile Design graduate from NIFT Chennai. She pursued the same because, design and creating was her calling. Textile seemed like a natural choice as she was constantly in awe of how beautiful and varied the traditional arts and crafts of India. During the course, she learnt priceless lessons which exposed her to amazing opportunities and met people from different walks of life. Although her present interests has shifted from Textiles to Graphics, calligraphy and baking (more recent); her education has helped her shape the way she does things. After a year of experience as a graphic/product designer at Ashvita, Mridula freelances and runs a home based dessert studio called ‘Hew and Frost’. She conducts lettering classes with Hindustan Trading Company and occasionally works on government projects for the upliftment of weavers and artisans. She considers it a privilege to work on a different media everyday, it is unlikely that she gets tired of one particular avenue. Mridula gets to work with fellow designers, textile artists, teachers, weavers and artisans and people from various walks of life. Mridula’s parents have been her role models. They are extremely hard working and committed to what they do, quite naturally she acquired these traits from them. They have been supportive of her choices and extend a helping hand when she needed it the most. She lost her father a few months ago, the biggest loss in her life. He took care of material sourcing, quality checking, etc at Hew and Frost and heaps of emotional support. Getting back on her feet has been truly hard, her family isn’t out of the mental shock but are healing slowly. #heroesamongus #youngpeople #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar

Udit Dhariwal & Aswin Narayan Udit Dhariwal finished his bachelor's degree 2 years ago and came to Chennai to pursue Chartered Accountancy. His maternal grandfather was a nature cure practitioner in Chennai from 1979 to 1998. His mother, as well, is a nature cure practitioner. With this background at home since childhood, he has always been very health conscious about his food choices. One particular episode in his life brought him face to face with his passion. He suffered from severe ulceration in my mouth and stomach for some time due to his food habits when he was on his own for some years in Chennai. Under his mother's guidance, he was on a complete Raw diet routine for 50 days which helped his with his health issues. This gave clarity about the right food choices which were part of his upbringing all along. That particular episode was an eye-opener. He started on a healthy exercise routine and juicing and realized how easy it was to consume greens, fruits and vegetables through juicing. Udit realized what he was passionate about and what he wanted to pursue - Bring health and natural lifestyle to people. Aswin, business partner at Habit Juice Co. has always been fascinated by startups. He believed in Udit’s dream and they bootstrapped some capital and started ‘Habit Juice Co.’. This juicing venture is their first baby step towards Udit’s dream. Sandhya Ganesh Sandhya is a Biotechnology Engineering graduate. Like most young entrepreneurs nowadays, her education has nothing to do with what she does now. Sandhya is a freelance tattoo artist who also has an online store for art based merchandise. Sandhya has had an inclination towards art even as a child. Getting a tattoo was always on the list but when learning to do one was also a possibility, she jumped into it the first opportunity she got. The complexity of the artworks and techniques got her intrigued in the art form. Her love for the process and what it stands for inspired her to learn tattooing professionally. Sandhya works with her partner who is a cartoonist. He helps her design some of her tattoos digitally. She also finds her clients very interesting as each person has a different story behind getting a tattoo. Despite a lot of practice, she was extremely nervous before giving out her first tattoo. The love for the art just couldn't compensate for the anxiety. Thankfully, the first tattoo model was her partner. The first line she drew made her realise how different real skin was compared to the practice skin. The thought that she was hurting someone was constantly on my mind. That's when Sandhya’s teacher came in and gave her the reassurance she needed. She was told that she could take as much time as needed to finish the tattoo and if a person getting the tattoo is in pain, they could take as many breaks as required. So halfway through the tattoo, she was much more comfortable and could focus on the art instead of her nerves. The relief and satisfaction once I completed was immense. #heroesamongus #youngpeople #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar

Yashasvini Rajeshwar ‘I was 13 when I started writing for publication as a freelance journalist. Stories, the voices in which they are told became a passion I chased with fervour, first through school and then through college. From learning how to speak to strangers and build empathy to exposing me to different schools of thought and opinion, perhaps the written word was truly where my education was at. For college, I chose to pursue the Integrated Masters in Humanities and Social Sciences from IIT Madras, specialising in Development Studies. Over the years, I have worked with all sorts of people. Writing has taken me to the top offices of state bureaucracy as well as shown me poverty and the lack of privilege. Coupled with a degree in development, I have travelled to rural spaces across the country, quite literally J&K to Tamil Nadu, listening, learning and telling their stories. I visited government schools in Tamil Nadu as a state representative for Sarva Siksha Abiyan and learnt how different policy and implementation can be. I worked with a Ladakhi organization to build libraries and train rural teachers in English and learnt what the pursuit of education looks like. Later, I headed Media and Communications for an NGO that used adventure sports to promote inclusion of disability and learnt the power of community. After graduation, I spent two years teaching children of the Irula tribe at a rural school near Coimbatore, understanding what grassroot impact truly entails, challenges & triumphs. Today, I am working on building a project that will target organisations exactly like that school and ease their perpetual funding struggle by networking them with local enterprises. The one recurring “experience,” has been the constant reminder of privilege and its many forms. From the student who asked me if I needed a passport to travel to Chennai “because New York is also very far away” to the lorry driver from Srinagar who pulled over from the astonishment that a girl could be travelling alone so far away from home - every job, every assignment, every story, became a reminder of privilege. #heroesamongus #youngpeople #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace

Pranathi Diwakar Pranathi decided to do a PhD in Sociology because she was really interested in the goings on of cities while pursuing her Masters in Development Studies at IIT Madras. For her Masters' thesis, she looked at the infrastructural politics of a ward in Pulianthope that didn't have public toilets. When she started her PhD in Sociology, she began to get really interested in how groups interact across the city. She started thinking about the articulations of caste particularly among urban dwellers. In Chennai, she found that one of the ways in which culture and identity become encoded is in musical culture. What you listen to, where you listen to it, who else is listening with you -- all these become powerful ways in which urban identities, and particularly caste identities, are being articulated everyday. Social researchers are studying how caste identity and inequality affects economic outcomes like income and employment, or social outcomes like health and education. But I am curious about the informal, intangible ways in which caste identity becomes employed (or doesn't) to talk about difference among groups of people in cities. Pranathi is interested in the role of stigma in how caste identities manifest in different cultural arenas in Chennai, especially through Carnatic and gaana paatu scenes. She works with musicians, music connoisseurs, and people from all walks of life in the city. She uses interviews, and what's known in sociology as ethnographic methods, to get at how Carnatic and gaana paatu in Chennai are populated by different groups. What does it mean to belong to these groups, why do people want to belong, and how do they profess belonging? These are some of the questions she is working through in the initial phase of her project.’ #heroesamongus #youngpeople #extraordinarychoices #thatmadrasplace #tmp #adyar
