Greetings citizens of Earth . I come from the planet XOR-T7, and we do not come in peace. Our Council of Elders conducted an exhaustive study of Earth, and, unfortunately, you do not meet our standards for acceptable planetary existence. And so we must destroy you . The Council was displeased with humankind’s rampant wars, vast socioeconomic inequality, and habit of saying ‘Pretty good!’ when another human asks you how you’re doing, even if you are not doing pretty good. What is up with that? . Something we have done on other planets to facilitate extinction is install an impulsive imbecile as the leader of a country with advanced military technology . On planets like yours, which are already predisposed to tribalistic self-destruction, putting a raging cretin near a large cache of weapons is often the best way to insure destruction. Imagine our surprise when we saw your current state of political leadership . Another method of planetary annihilation that has worked for us in the past is accelerating a planet’s climate crisis. We had a whole plan to use our big laser to melt your glaciers and ice caps, causing rising sea levels and devastating weather events . But it turns out you have already melted most of those things on your own. In fact, you have done more damage than we could ever do ourselves . There has to be something you have not done to Earth yet. Maybe we could disrupt your food chain by wiping out most of your wildlife. You know, to collapse your complex network of ecosystems that have been billions of years in the making? Oh, you have already eradicated most life on Earth without our help? Right . Is this some sort of advanced defensive tactic whereby you bring yourselves within an inch of complete destruction in order to dissuade us and then, as soon as we are gone, you will quickly fix your planet? . That cannot be it, since you do not seem to be taking any preparatory steps to reverse the damage you have done. What kind of game are you playing, humans? . You know what? I am starting to think that Earth does not have that many resources left for us to plunder, anyway. What a waste of time. Let us go find a planet that can still be destroyed

Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants. It helps protect your heart. It can even boost your mood and brainpower . There is no shortage of evidence that chocolate - particularly the dark stuff - is pretty damn good for you. But then there is that whole thing about how it might cause acne or make it worse. So, if you are plagued by pimples, what should you do? . It would be pretty sweet if you could point to a single food as the cause of all your skin woes - cut it out and bam! Your zits are zapped - but it turns out there is no definitive answer. Science does, however have some solid, if not inconclusive, clues . Some studies suggest there is a link between chocolate consumption and increased acne lesions. That sounds pretty compelling, but these kinds of results have not been found across the board . In short, some studies suggest chocolate might trigger breakouts or make them worse, but others fail to connect the dots. While certain dietary patterns seem to be bad news for your skin, experts overall do not agree that one specific food leads to acne . Dark chocolate serves up the most potent health perks, but no studies have directly compared the effects of dark, milk, and white chocolate on skin. But here is what we do know: Sugar-rich foods and those with higher glycemic indexes tend to be worse for acne overall . That seems to indicate that the more sugar a type of chocolate contains, the more likely it could be to trigger a breakout. With that line of thinking, darker chocolate would be better for your skin than the milk and white type, which are higher in sugar . But while dark chocolate’s antioxidants are thought to potentially protect skin and help keep blood sugar levels stable, there is still some evidence that even pure cocoa with zero added sugar could have a negative effect on acne . The bottom line? It is possible that dark chocolate might trigger fewer pimples than other types of chocolate. But chocolate in general might also have properties that spur breakouts . There is not enough research to say for sure either way, our advice is to keep track of which foods seem to affect your skin most and limit your consumption or steer clear altogether

Looking for outrage from the so-called "Support the Troops" crowd. I have yet to hear anything. Smh And this is why we still have to say #BlackLivesStillMatter Posted @withregram • @joyannreid It seems we’ll never make it stop. #blacklivesmatter Repost from @apnews • Hundreds of #AirForce members in dress blues joined Roger Fortson’s family, friends and others at a suburban Atlanta megachurch on Friday to pay their final respects to the Black senior airman who was shot and killed in his Florida home earlier this month by a sheriff’s deputy. People lined up well before the start of the service at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest to file past the open coffin and say their goodbyes to Fortson, who was shot six times by a deputy responding to a May 3 call about a possible domestic violence situation at Fortson’s apartment complex in the Florida Panhandle. He was 23. “As you can see from the sea of Air Force blue in front of me, I am not alone in my admiration of Senior Airman Fortson,” Col. Patrick Dierig told mourners. “We would like to take credit for making him great, but the truth is that he was great before he came to us,” said Dierig, who commands the 1st Special Operations Wing at Hurlburt Air Force Base in Florida, where Fortson was stationed. #APPhotos by Brynn Anderson

It is usually the most complicated, exotic, and otherworldly sounding ingredients that get us the most excited. Of course, we know rationally that a long name does not equate to results, but our minds like to think they do . However, there is one hardworking sleeper ingredient that is here to prove us wrong: glycerin . When we think of moisture boosters in skincare, buzzy hyaluronic acid usually comes to mind, but you can consider glycerin its less glamorous, highly effective sister, which is why we make sure to include it in all of our lotions (and plenty else too) . Glycerin works as a humectant, attracting moisture from the air into the stratum corneum (top layer of skin). Due to its low molecular weight, it will continue to draw moisture to the deeper layers of the dermis. It has a molecular weight of approximately 92 g/mol, which means it is able to penetrate deep into the skin . Though you might not have actively sought it out, chances are, glycerin is already a mainstay in your skincare regime. Cosmetic chemists (like us) use it in most formulations because of how effective it is in terms of moisturizing . It also helps protect skin against harsh products. It keeps skin soft, supple, and hydrated, which is essential to counteract the effects of stripping hand sanitizers, low market soaps and the such . As one of the most commonly used raw materials in the cosmetics industry, glycerin is the basic backbone of most essential lipids, which are oils found within your skin, so it has a great affinity for it . Oh, and since it has no known side effects (when expertly diluted by a skincare formalist), almost everything can benefit from a healthy dose of glycerin . Lastly, let us touch upon the ‘oil vs cream’ debate. Oils are meant to penetrate the skin barrier and be absorbed by the skin . Creams, which typically include glycerin, are meant to support the skin barrier by covering the outside, preventing loss of water, which allows said oils to nourish and repair . So it is not about siding with one or the other, but instead embracing both oil and water-based products in your skincare regimen to reap the benefits of their symbiotic relationship

Yesterday I was invited to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party for the Creative Industries. I was invited by DCMS in recognition of my work as Chair of @seetapateldance NPO, an organisation that is going from strength to strength under the great team we have. The creative industries as a whole generated £124 billion in economic value in 2022, which is staggering when you consider the number of cuts to funding and challenges that we are experiencing in 2024. Charles and Camilla were in attendance and the SPD team were personally approached to talk with the Duchess of Gloucester about dance. I’m certainly not a royalist but having the opportunity to acknowledge all that we as an industry achieve, make new connections and catch up with many wonderful creative practitioners that I admire, made it a fantastic day! #blacklivesstillmatter #freepalestine #creativeindustries #artscouncilengland #dcms #buckinghampalacegardenparties #npo

George Floyd should be alive today. As we look back on the racial reckoning incited by his murder four years later, the work to dismantle the structures that enable systemic racism, though far from done, has slowly been taking shape . For decades, racialized communities have been disproportionately and negatively impacted by commonplace practices of law enforcement . One way to begin to fix the broken system of policing is to ban the practice of carding and street checks - policies in which reasonable suspicion is grounds enough for a police officer to stop, question and document individuals when no offence is being investigated . Reform changes to policing do not always work, but they can be a first step. Challenging the root cause of bias and criminalization lies in confronting systemic racism in law enforcement . It is time to ban any and all practices of carding, street checks and racial profiling in Canada. It is a practice that fosters, encourages and enables racism. It violates Canada’s international human rights obligation to actively prohibit and prevent discrimination. It must end    . In Toronto, Black people make up on average 8.3% of the population, but represent nearly 37% of the victims of deadly encounters with police . In Winnipeg, Indigenous people represent on average 10.6% of the population, but account for nearly 66% of victims. The numbers do not lie . Activists have been leading the way on speaking up against carding and street checks. Prominent human rights organizations and UN experts have raised the alarm on anti-Black racism in policing and we should ensure their recommendations are turned into action . A permanent and effective ban on carding is one step towards curbing systemic racism in policing . Community and human rights advocates across Canada have been demanding an end to street checks. Join SUDS and Amnesty International in demanding Prime Minister Trudeau and Minister of Public Safety Blair ban carding, street checks and racial profiling by policing and law enforcement agencies under federal jurisdiction . Text MOMENTUM to 70734 (Canada) or 40649 (US) to be part of the movement and have your voice heard

Now this is what we call getting juiced . There are few things we love more than harnessing the power of whole food ingredients in our formulations. Cue the orange, an antioxidant-rich ingredient that has powerful skincare and haircare benefits . With an uplifting and sweet fragrance, orange juice deeply cleanses and brightens the skin and hair. The antioxidant benefits of orange juice are thought to come from the potassium, folic acid, and large amounts of vitamin C . The high concentration of vitamin C work together with the astringent and antibacterial properties to keep your skin healthy, firm and glowing, like with our ‘Dawn of the Bed’ shower gel . Oranges are nature’s magic bullet when it comes to reducing inflammation and giving your skin a shot of vitamin A, which is essential for healthy cell turnover and slowing the breakdown of collagen to visibly reduce signs of aging. Oranges are also superstars because of their high content of fruit acid . If you have not yet been acquainted with fruit acids, now is a good time to get to know your new best friend. Oranges contain citric acid, a member of the alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) family . These acids are potent chemical exfoliators: they penetrate skin and dissolve the dead skin cells that sit on your skin’s uppermost surface. Say goodbye to dullness, and hello to glow with our orange-forward ‘Muddy Waters’ shower scrub . Research on orange essential oil has shown that there are even more orange benefits for skin: Studies have suggested that the essential oil has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, making it a great option for treating acne, say with our mandarin-infused ‘Downunderish’ shower scrub pictured here, as well as to tackle dandruff, like with our ‘Rooster Booster’ shampoo . Separate studies suggest that some of the natural phytochemicals in orange essential oil have anti-inflammatory properties, so it can also function as a remedy for inflamed, stressed-out skin. Research has also linked the use of orange essential oil in aromatherapy with reduced anxiety levels., helping to clear the mind and recharge your energy levels . Any way you slice it, oranges are definitely a good thing

It turns out that pot (and blazing with racists) can be pretty damn bad for the planet . An ounce of chronic can come with a carbon footprint of up to about 148 kg depending on how and where it was cultivated. Not every state or province where cannabis is legal has the best climates for growing the plant outdoors. And we all still rely heavily on the fossil fuel industry for energy, of which cannabis requires plenty when growing indoors . Agriculture makes up 10% of greenhouse gas emissions. Many of the environmental concerns with farming at large - the abuse of synthetic fertilizers and obsession with monocultures etc - bleed into the cannabis industry, too. These problems often stem from a disconnection to the land and addiction to profit . Growing cannabis indoors is energy-intensive. The sources of emissions vary from electricity to the pumping of carbon dioxide into grow rooms to accelerate plant growth. Plants are pretty simple: They require light, air, water, and nutrients. Not unlike us . When farmers grow them inside, however, they need to artificially create an environment to supply all that. The plants would ideally receive this all from Mother Nature outside, but that is not always possible due to weather or red tape . Cleaning up the industry cannot happen overnight, but the industry needs to begin addressing the problems now. The industry has exploded, and many are worried newer markets will continue these harmful methods, which can threaten global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect communities . A key theme in the fight for environmental justice is the corporate prioritization of profit over people and planet. The cannabis industry is no different. Ultimately, the industry needs to make space for the people who know the land best. That includes Black, Indigenous, and other people of colour - the same people the war on drugs has targeted for decades . Slowly, seed by seed, game-changers are transforming the industry with their hands and hearts. So next time you spark one up, remember that future of the planet - and the sustainability of your bud - depends on their success, so source your next stash responsibly

Mother’s Day, in its present form, is merely another capitalist-patriarchal tool to beat women over the head with. It is nothing more than a depressing attempt at brain-washing women into believing that ‘their’ work is valued . The holiday - which once served as a simple way to honour mothers – is now a commercialized, ridiculous holiday overwrought with expectations and hyper-consumerism . Yet, it was not always this way. Anna Jarvis spearheaded the first Mother’s Day in 1908 to honour her own mother, a teacher and caregiver for wounded Civil War soldiers . From that point on, she campaigned zealously for the holiday to become official, and, in 1914 Congress did just that . Quickly, the floral and greeting card industries became enraptured with the commercial possibilities of the day. By 1920, disgusted by the onslaught of remunerative avenues, Jarvis began urging people to stop buying flowers and cards for their mothers . Manufactured holidays love capitalism. The Mother’s Day industrial complex is a big deal, with people predicted to spend $33.7 billion on the holiday this year, up 13% from last year, dropping money on needless excess . Mother’s Day has become to moms what Christmas is to kids: A perversion of the simple joy of honouring loved ones . It is unquestionably a stupid holiday. The determination of mothers cannot be overstated, but the reward for getting things done no matter what is fewer jobs and promotions, lower pay and abysmal medical care . And lest we forget what is going on in America, where the overturning of Roe V. Wade has unleashed a wave of Draconian laws dead set on stripping women of their fundamental right to decide whether they want to even become a mother in the first place . Western society loves mothers, but only as an idea. The concept of motherhood as selfless, all-consuming and noble is outdated, and the notion that we celebrate mothers for one day out of the year while doing everything in our power to keep them down all other days is pathological. Tell us again why a greeting card is enough? . A day cannot fix the way our society treats mothers. Keep your day, your carnations and your breakfast in bed. What we want is change

Once thought of as apple juice’s nerdy, scuzzy sour cousin, apple cider vinegar (or ACV as it is known on the streets) has blossomed to become one of the darlings of skincare . With purported benefits like brighter, clearer skin, can you really blame anyone for risking smelling like salad dressing if it means better skin? Surely, we have all done weirder things in the name of beauty . Apple cider vinegar is derived from apples (no shock, Sherlock) and made by a process of fermentation. It comes in a liquid form and when used topically, is commonly applied as a toner but can also act as a spot treatment . ACV naturally has an acidic pH and can help balance the pH of the outer skin layer. As a vinegar, it contains acetic acid, which has antibacterial and keratolytic properties, and it also contains malic acid, a gentle chemical exfoliant . Although there is not enough scientific evidence to support most of the claims made about apple cider vinegar, in theory, its properties could potentially provide a multitude of skin benefits, including balancing the skin’s pH to help keep your skin functioning optimally - that is, doing things like producing the right amount of oil and dealing with acne-causing bacteria . ACV contains malic acid, which is similar to alpha hydroxy acid, and, as such, works well on acne-prone skin as it gently exfoliates to unclog the pores and eliminate bacteria . Malic acid may also be helpful for clearing up any hyperpigmentation issues, like dark spots, since it is known for its ability to decrease the production of melanin. Melanin is what gives the skin its pigmentation; therefore, malic acid is great at improving hyperpigmentation . The chemical exfoliant malic acid is more mild than most AHAs, making it suitable for all skin types - just make sure to patch test on your skin beforehand (but you already knew that, right?) . On the flip side, other components of apple cider vinegar can be quite irritating and drying to the skin, and studies show the acetic acid found in ACV can cause chemical burns, so if you plan on giving it a go, just be sure to dilute the formula more than is recommended if it ends up being too harsh

If our planet is 70% water, why do we call ourselves earthlings and not waterlings? . Our bodies are up to 70% water and the water-to-salt ratio of our blood is astoundingly similar to that of seawater. Humankind has fought and fretted over where we come from, but perhaps the more pertinent question is: Where did water come from? . When the Earth was forming, it was a disk of gas and rock clusters and debris that slowly began to come together. And while water was likely present, it would have been too hot to condense into liquid - meaning that our ocean did not form alongside the planet . Research suggests that water was delivered to our planet by comets and asteroids, which can contain enough ice to create our ocean over time. You could say that water was gifted to the Earth - and from that gift, all life sprang . Given that, you would think we might be more mindful of how we are handling this gift - but the world water crisis will be the defining crisis of our lifetimes and it is already here . The world may be 70% water, but only 3% of it is freshwater, and 2% of that is trapped in ice at the poles. This means that our entire species relies on just 1% of water . It is glaringly evident that there is no sense of value to what is really an incredible and invaluable resource. Only when we run out, we find what the cost of water truly is . But things can change. In the face of its own water crisis two years ago, Cape Town was preparing for ‘Day Zero’ when it would have to become the first major city to shut off public water and ration it out to citizens . Then something extraordinary happened: people came together and were able to reduce their city’s daily water consumption by over half. This, coupled with significant rainfall, led to the indefinite postponement of Day Zero . We are water. And like water, we are capable of changing course, of shifting form to flow around any obstacle, of wearing down even stone . From the ocean we rise as mist, and from the sky we fall as droplets, carrying the sea within us, flowing back to source. And like water, our lives are a gift. What would it look like if we started treating them as such?

The horrors currently unfolding in Rafah ferociously underline the fact that the end of the Israeli occupation in Palestine must come swiftly. The lives of the nearly 2 million people seeking refuge in Rafah depend on it . Israel has become an international pariah - and well deserved at that. With the death toll well surpassing 40,000+ since just Oct 7th, 2023, the evil of the apartheid regime must come to a complete stop, permanently . Let us remain steadfast in our work for liberation and focus on the students on the streets demanding an end to the genocide occurring as we speak in Rafah . Police have broken up demonstrations on over 90 campuses across the U.S and Canada, often under the false pretext of student safety and to combat antisemitism . And it is true that some Jewish students have reported feeling unsafe. And there have been scattered examples of antisemitic rhetoric among protestors in - and around - campuses. That is unacceptable . But for what it is worth, some Jewish student groups have expressed support for the protests, or even been actively involved in organizing them, to the point that there was a Shabbat service at the university gates at Columbia . Also, these protests have been overwhelmingly peaceful. When there has been violence, it has mostly been directed at the protestors themselves . What explains this growing student movement? Sometimes the correct answer is the one right in front of you . These students want an end to a war that has been executed with breathtaking violence. Every university in Gaza has been destroyed. 77,000+ people have been injured, and 17,000+ children have been orphaned . In the course of Israel’s military campaign in Rafah, the endless images of death has shaped our understanding of the war. In ways reminiscent of the genesis of the BLM movement, Palestinians have captured scenes of unimaginable brutality and narrated their experiences . Every smartphone is now a portal into Gaza. The obliteration of civil society, pictures of the dead, and the wails of mothers are no longer mediated by the press . We urge everyone to continue your efforts in demanding an end to the occupation and an immediate ceasefire

Purple conditioner - a hero to silver foxes and blondes (both bottle and natural) everywhere . For the uninitiated, purple conditioner (just like purple shampoo) is essentially a tone-intensive conditioner that allows you to tone your hair at home . Violet tones control warmth in your hair to counteract yellow, orange, and brassy tones in the hair for those with blonde, platinum, silver, pastel, beige, and grey hair, as well as dimensional brunettes . But that does not make purple conditioner a miracle product for all of humanity, however. Sadly, purple conditioner cannot make your hair lighter, so if the tone is too dark or too orange, it will not make it brighter . Those with platinum blonde hair, blonde highlights, or anyone who has had lightener in their mane and loves a bright pop are great candidates for our ‘Cerberus’ purple conditioner pigmented with grape skin extract . Purple conditioner is a wonderful product for anyone that wants to maintain their fresh from salon-lightened hair weeks after leaving the salon without any risk of orange or yellow popping through. Beware, Halloween colours. You are not welcome here . We recommend that first-timers mix it with a little of their regular conditioner to see how potent it is; you do not want to wind up looking like Grimace accidentally . And definitely alternate your purple conditioner with a moisturizing conditioner. Depending on how brassy your locks are, you will not need to use the toning effects every wash, and it is important to add moisture and strengthen hair during the colour process to keep hair healthy and strong . Be cognizant of how long you leave a purple conditioner on each time, so you can figure out what will be the perfect timing for your hair and porosity. The more porous the hair, the more it will grab. It is our experience that the best way to use purple conditioner is once every second or third wash . You can even experiment with using our purple conditioner as a leave-in, applying to damp, freshly towel-dried hair so it will absorb even more since water from the shower will not act as a barrier during application

The conversation about cultural appropriation is an important one, but limiting in scope, especially when it comes to mixed race people . Because while it may be easy to say a person of a dominant, colonialist culture should not wear the clothing of an oppressed one, well, what if you are both? . Mixed race people often have to straddle two or more cultures, figuring out where they fit in, and questioning if they will ever be ‘enough’ for either side. And when it comes to fashion, it can easily feel like you are appropriating yourself . Clothing and beauty are ways in which many cultures outwardly signal who they are, and mixed race people can struggle with feeling not quite attached to signifiers that monoracial people may have been raised with. Some of the worry about appearing to play dress-up certainly comes from outside judgment . Being told ‘you’re not [x] enough,’ are common accusations mixed race people get when trying to embrace one side of themselves. However, now that fashion and beauty styles signifiers like head scarves are black outlined lips have become fashionable in the mainstream, it has become a muddy swamp to navigate for many. white girls are doing it now, too, and so we aren’t as worried about being ‘raced’ by those style choices.” How mixed race people are perceived is typically through a white lens. . While many mixed race people with white backgrounds worry about being perceived as white, mixed race people with no white ancestry also struggle with which aspects of themselves they want to embrace . Nobody has a solution. People say race is a construct, but it is one that influences everything we do. It is also a construct that, no matter how many discrete boxes it attempts to create, bleeds together . Mixed race people worry about how their family will perceive them, how white people perceive them, if strangers who share their backgrounds or who do not will know who they really are just by looking at them . Perhaps a shared experience for all mixed race people is deciding which perception they listen to on any given day. Talk about taking it one day at a time for all the wrong reasons

The Earth’s outermost layer is composed of 20 tectonics plates, massive fragments that float freely within magma. Heat and radioactive activityfrom deeper within the planet pushes these plates and the continents they contain toward and away from each other, contouring our world in the process . It is along the borders between these massive swaths of land where the Earth truly comes alive. As tectonic plates collide, due to them being of comparable weight and thickness, neither will rise above or submerge below the other . Massive amounts of pressure causes them to fracture and fold, driving earth upward into mountain ranges that grow as the titans continue to converge over time . If cracks or vents occur and magma is able to rise to the surface, the mountains that form become volcanic . In other cases, the plates will push up against each other in a way that causes the Earth to bend and buckle, forming fold mountains, or break apart into chunks as block mountains. At our boundaries, we find friction, yes, but also new formations . Earth as we know it was etched over eons. Homo sapiens have only roamed it for 300,000 years. Globalization - the modern socio-economic interconnectedness that shapes our world today - has only occurred in the last few hundred years . At times, it feels as if our species has never been so fractured. We draw borders, cast faults, and cause eruptions. At other times, we believe this to be the messy work of us coming back together and learning how to be whole again . Our species is an evolutionary marvel; it is time we apply our intelligence to forging a new, figurative Pangea . The ruptures that form our rugged terrains, that give rise to our peaks and valleys. The mountains we all must climb, the way they change us and the wisdom offered by their views. The ground that moves underneath us imperceptibly and the moments when we can feel it shaking us awake . The quiet stillness in which we see that by geologic time our lives are nothing but an in breath, a pregnant pause, all the Earth whispering: everything must change, and you are part of that change . (Pt. II of II)

W.E.B. Du Bois (1868-1963) was a prominent Pan-Africanist, scholar, writer and civil rights activist. His wife Nina was a Baháʼí. W.E.B. Du Bois was the first African American to gain a doctorate from Harvard University and a co-founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a position he used to advocate for social justice and respond to racism. The NAACP was founded on 12th February 1909 in New York. From the NAACP website: "OUR FOUNDERS In 1908, a deadly race riot rocked the city of Springfield, eruptions of anti-black violence – particularly lynching – were horrifically commonplace, but the Springfield riot was the final tipping point that led to the creation of the NAACP. Appalled at this rampant violence, a group of white liberals that included Mary White Ovington and Oswald Garrison Villard (both the descendants of famous abolitionists), William English Walling and Dr. Henry Moscowitz issued a call for a meeting to discuss racial justice. Some 60 people, seven of whom were African American (including W. E. B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, and Mary Church Terrell), signed the call, which was released on the centennial of Lincoln's birth." W.E.B. Du Bois was a leader of the Niagara Movement, a group of black civil rights activists seeking equal rights. He opposed the Atlanta Compromise, insisting on full civil rights and increased political representation. He believed that this would be brought about by African American intellectuals. He called this group the Talented Tenth and believed that African Americans needed the opportunity for advanced education to develop their leadership and potential. “…if I were going to join a religious organization I should certainly be strongly tempted to join the Baháʼí movement because of its broad principles, its international and inter-racial program.” W.E.B. ❤️Hazel Scott (1920 - 1981)❤️ Born on June 11, 1920 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Hazel Scott was a child musical prodigy, accomplished musician, jazz and classical pianist and actress. Having moved with her family to New York at the age of 4, by the age of 8, she was attending the prestigious world-class Juilliard School of Music. Hazel became a pioneer and staunch activist against racism, before the Civil Rights Movement in America. She refused to act "maid" roles in Hollywood films, refused to perform in segregated venues, and insisted on having control over her final cuts and wardrobe. She was an outspoken advocate for human rights and racial justice. Hazel was the first person of African origin to host her own television show, the Hazel Scott Show. Hazel became a Baháʼí on December 1, 1968, after learning about the Baháʼí Faith from musical great Dizzy Gillespie, also a Baháʼí. "All my life," she said in an interview, "people have said to me, 'The way you talk, you sound like a Baháʼí,' and I never knew what a Baháʼí was . . . I have always respected everyone’s religion. As I say, there is only one God . . . That is what is great about Baháʼí; we believe in Progressive Revelation. We believe that whenever man has been ready to absorb more knowledge, God has revealed it." Dr Joy DeGruy is a Baháʼí, a Clinical Psychologist, a nationally and internationally renowned researcher, writer and educator. She authored the book Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing, (revised 2017) which addresses the residual impacts of trauma on African Descendants in the Americas. Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome (PTSS) lays the groundwork for understanding how the past has influenced the present, and opens up the discussion of how we can eliminate non-productive attitudes, beliefs and behaviors developed to cope and survive the traumatic periods of capture, transport, enslavement, Jim Crow and current day racial terrorism. The focus of the book is to learn and build upon the strengths we have gained from the past in order to heal from injuries both past and present. https://www.joydegruy.com/ Be The Healing https://www.bethehealing.org/ #JoyDeGruy #blacklivesmatter #racism #raceunity #peace #posttraumaticslavesyndrome #healingracism #blacklivesstillmatter

Now is the time to start thinking and researching for the truth. We have been lied to since the beginning of this country and fed fake news and misinformation. We must teach each other and our children the truth so they can become critical thinkers. Lately, I have been watching how religion plays a major role in brainwashing people with fake information. Christians seem to hate, discriminate, and wave the Confederate flag more than non-religious people. #blackhistory #historylies #blacklivesmatter #blacklivesstillmatter #blackpride #resilient #courageous #myancestors #myancestorswildestdreams #selfcare #selflove #eyeontheprize🏆 #stayfocused #stayfocus #blackpower #blackpantherparty
