Super OG followers might remember this one! Here is my Chinese Type 88 Hanyang, made in 1935, and chambered in M88. This example saw service with the Chinese Civil Guard, identified by the large stock cartouche. For those unaware, the Type 88 is essentially a copy of the German Gewehr 88 without the 88/05 updates. Form what I’ve read, what essentially happened, is that China got duped into buying all the Gewehr 88s the Germans didn’t feel like updating, along with spare parts and tooling. The Chinese were unimpressed with rifles,deciding to update there existing stockpile, and produce all new guns to slightly different specifications. Specifically, removing the barrel shroud, and eliminating the double feed problem with the bolt, among other things. Like most type 88s, this example has had a long life. Despite it looking ok on the outside, the under barrel is horribly pitted, and is sadly no longer safe to shoot. However, as far as wall hangers go, the big cartouche sounds out amongst all the other guns, so I’m happy to keep it. Thanks for reading, SOMETHING BIG COMING NEXT TIME! Another Swiss made beauty! This Vetterli rifle is an antique in amazing condition. It dates back to the 1880s and still has the original bolt, firing pin and even has a spare firing pin in the buttstock. It fires 11mm black powder cartridges and though it is no longer produced, with a little skill and research, it is possible to reload for it. Overall, a nice historic piece for any weapons collector! High quality because it’s Swiss made 😁 this pre-WW2 dated K31 is a show stopper. If you’ve fired one you know how smooth the straight pull bolt is. It’s one of those rifles you’d have to get for your collection. Oh and this one has a Soldier tag in the buttstock as seen on @battlefield_curator ‘s YouTube channel. The tag reads Erb, Ulrich 1936 and on the reverse it reads Welschenrohr, which is Mr. Erb’s hometown. Gilbert Clark signs his name on the wooden stock of the Lee Enfield rifle 🇬🇧 - 🇯🇲 Gilbert was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica. In 1943 news came that volunteers were wanted for the RAF, so everyone duly filled in application forms for the test even though success was not guaranteed if you were not college or university educated. However, days later Gilbert was thrilled to find that he had passed with flying colours. Leaving Jamaica Gilbert headed for the USA and disembarked in South Virginia to a transit camp. Although they were welcomed, it was not what they were used to because, being America, there was segregation with no colour mixing. They were told immediately that they would only be socialising in the company of the Black GIs - which was fine as they were made to feel welcomed and they had a ball. However, on one occasion, curiosity led them to a White area and as they were known to be British, the attitude was civil with offers of beers. Gilbert, having not had beer before, saw the froth on the top and wondered if it was a milkshake - he was not keen on the lager. After a few weeks training Gilbert headed on a troop ship in a convoy heading for Britain. Within a few hours a loud bang was heard which they were told was a torpedo, something they soon got used to as ships around them were hit. They sailed through the Atlantic keeping to the American coast past Canada, Ireland and then docking in Liverpool before going on to Filey. Gilbert finally arrived in Britain on 3rd June 1944 he was based in Cambridgeshire and he was tasked with studying and maintaining radar equipment identifying enemy places over Britain. Another Veteran added to the rifle…This gentleman is WW2 veteran Albert Fenton. At age 18 Albert answered his call to duty and headed to the beaches on D-Day. He landed on Juno beach on June 6th 1944, he was in the Royal Army Service Corps and was a driver. He made his way through France and continued to fight in the war until he helped liberated Bergen-Belsen on 15 April 1945 on route he actually bumped into Winston Churchill! He was then shipped off to Egypt and Palestine where he Met Dame Vera Lynn!
