A právě covidovou situaci návrh odráží. @winter.stations #winterstations2021 #architect #architecture #idea #design #covid #ice

Inside/ outside “The Epitonium” installation - my favourite of #winterstations 2021 installations. Due to the pandemic these “winter” station installations are on display now (in late spring/early summer) at the Distillery District (instead of their typical location by Lake Ontario). . . . #winterstations #winterstations2021 #winterstationstoronto #distillerydistricttoronto #distillerydistrict2021 #torontospring2021 #torontosummer2021 #bikingtoronto #bikerides

Sky above, sand below, peace ☮️ within. 🌡️Like any normal Canadian does we look at the weather forecast, see when is above 0° and decide it's a good day to go out. The only freedom we have when it's not lockdown, work or cold winter. Today was 7°C and 🌞, tomorrow I think will be -2°C. 🗺️So naturally, I have a list of places I want to see in Toronto, and one of them was the Winter Station Installation that was supposed to be from February 15th until March 31st, however today March 3rd there isn't any! 😅💔. 👯But it was nice to hang out with a friend, and bonus points for the beach view🌅🏖️. 😷There was a lot of people not wearing a mask, so I'm not sure we'll say goodbye to lockdown anytime soon. How was your day❓ ✨✨✨

Can you guess what this year's Winter Stations theme is? Entering its' 7th year, the Winter Stations exhibition will return with a new eclectic mix of interactive public art installations! 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨? Great question! It's a competition that invites international artists, designers and architects to reimagine several lifeguard stands along the shores of Lake Ontario. This year's theme is "refuge" and the theme of shelter & protection. 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜? The installations are typically set up at Woodbine Beach in Toronto, but this year, three will go on display first at the downtown Distillery District before migrating to the beach. An additional installation will go up in the Kew Gardens park near the beach. 𝙎𝙤 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙄 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙡? Lol No firm timetable announced yet on when these structures will be available to see but the designs released thus far are fascinating! Colorful Node. Ultimately, the piece is an evolving mix of digital art and physical architecture that creates playful interactions between these realities– a new positioning of the arch for the internet age.

2/17/2021, 11:03:29 PM

The Arch : The Arch is an architectural object. Here it represents a place to orient, gather and interact - a shelter for those exploring the augmented reality portals and those having a short rest. The Portal: The Arch embodies its nature by framing space as it connects with augmented reality content and extends a user’s experience into new virtual worlds by scanning the highly textured imagery with a smart phone. Augmented Construction: Augmented Reality aided construction poetically ties the construction and assembly of 2D plywood ornamentation to the overall form. A simple stud partition frame is used for ease of construction and minimal material waste. I Am A Monument! The Arch is a beacon in the landscape, a diamond glistening in the snow. Its colourful textures emote joyous views and experiences where digital and physical components interact and overlap. The project is a monument to all in a winter landscape.

ARc de Blob - mixed reality structure inviting visitors to explore this colorful node in the Woodbine beach animating it with AR interface.

Refuge. This virtual world is accessible by passing through the physical structure. The physical forms allow for an ease of construction by incorporating the lifeguard structure and legibility with references to iconic architectural composition and elements; this is contrasted with the colourful materials and patterns that create a warm and welcoming shelter.

2/13/2021, 6:51:31 PM

AR. The arch itself acts as a frame for a virtual portal / refuge seen in Mixed Reality – a space of new digital worlds: creative environments designed by us to encourage visitors to play and interact together in both physical and digital space! . Visit the link in the description to try out the AR yourself!

Arc De Blob, takes the standalone, traditional architectural platonic of the Arch and flips its appropriated narrative, reclaiming its nature as an architectural default. Its ornamentation reflects on the crisis of digital translation, 2D-3D, classical to present. We're all well aware of the nature of classical architecture and it's colourful past, yet, we have blindly whitewashed its image - which in architectural history has influenced mundane, stoic modernist aesthetics. However, we aim to critically to dismantle these norms and hierarchies by approaching the arch with decadent colour, flamboyance and digital defaults. Primitives of hearts, circles, arches and lines translate from 3D to 2D through the flattening of these digital volumes.

2/11/2021, 12:55:43 PM

Arc De Blob features a simple stud frame construction sheathed in 18mm plywood and ornamented with CNC cut digital defaults and primitives. To aid construction, we are enabling Augmented Construction particularly through Social AR. This is the first architectural project constructed using Instagram filters to position and align architectural ornamentation.

2/9/2021, 6:15:23 PM

ARc de Blob is a colourful node in the Woodbine Beach landscape: a point of orientation, interaction and refuge. The concept of this architectural object is to creatively mix physical materials with the ability to digitally interact and connect. Through a Mixed Reality App (developed by our multidisciplinary team), we will create incredible virtual worlds - a figurative refuge where our avatars can interact, connect and play. #winterstations #winterstations2021

We’re so proud to announce we’re teaming up with international design competition @winter.stations this year on the “From Small Beginnings” art installation. Designed by UK artists Jack and Charlie Leather, the piece’s shelving will be constructed entirely of our very own MicroPro Sienna wood. Providing solace from the harsh elements of winter, the installation features lively spruce seedlings growing out of the shelves, representing hope and new opportunities ahead. Can’t wait to see this stunning public art when it’s built at the @distilleryto AND Woodbine Beach! Head over to @winter.stations to find out more about the beautiful public art and to see the other winners.

Our proposal for Winter Stations Competition 2021 @winter.stations MARIUS «A man’s home is his castle» 2020 has become a difficult test for all inhabitants of the planet Earth. Our way of life has changed, and so have we. Our refuges this year are our apartments, living rooms and home offices. In our design we wanted to convey this image of an impregnable fortress with a hearth of comfort on top. Coziness and comfort are our walls. The walls of the fortress are 295 interconnected stools MARIUS from IKEA. The longer we stay in our shelters, thus inevitably they will become our prisons. So in such a difficult time for the whole world, it is worth being responsible to yourself and those around you. Let’s hope that soon our fortresses will become just our cozy apartments again. #Architecture #ArchitectureCompetitions #ArchitecturalCompetition #winterstations #winterstations2021 #winter #landscape #Design #installation #archdaily #architectureforchildren #illustrarch #architecture #shelterforsoul #koozarch #archidiagram #showitbetter #deezen #archigram #superarchitects #nexttoparchitects #actofmapping #pavilionarchitecture #divisare #archisource #archisource #youngarchitectsplatorm #archit_magazine #stylarchh #dimensionsguide
