Longest hike yet. The weirdest thing is my left leg (with Gertrude the bionic hip) is now my stronger leg. In case you didn’t know, I’ll be having my right hip replaced before the end of this year. We hiked 3 milles in Owen’s Valley with almost constant views of the mountains. WE’RE DUMB! After posting a real about our cell phone/internet costs, we received many questions as to why our cell phone charges were so high. So here’s the answer… When we originally went full time, we needed redundancy for areas that didn’t have coverage with either service provider. Today, we finally realized that now we have Starlink we don’t need two providers. All that to say today, we’ve cut our monthly costs by $100 and Cat for a new iPhone 15 pro max - free! This took us way too long!!! Thanks everyone for helping us realize something they we should have done way sooner!! This past week, Cat had her final appointment with the amazing Dr. Sanchez from Art of Dentistry in Los Algodones, Mexico. Located just over the border near Yuma, AZ, Los Algodones is the number one dental tourist destination. We weren’t sure what to expect when we first visited, but we had nothing but good experiences each time. Cat is ecstatic with her new smile which cost 85% less than the US dentist quoted. Afterwards, we enjoyed a walk around the bright, colorful, and friendly town. Run don’t walk to visit this amazing National Monument in Southern Arizona. This 330,000 acre monument was set aside in 1937 to preserve a pristine example of Sonoran Desert. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument preserves the northern-most natural habitat of the Organ Pipe Cactus, as well as amazing examples of desert plants, animals, geology, and human history. Arizona highway 85 is the main entrance into the monument. The highway and the road into the campground are the only paved roads in the monument; all other roads are dirt and gravel, and some may require a high clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicle to explore. We took these photos on the the Ajo Mountain Loop Road and portions of the Puerto Blanco Drive. WARNING - this park borders Mexico - keep an eye on road closures. The Puerto Blanco road was only partially opened. There are wonderful hikes, easy access to abandoned silver mines and So. Many. Whether you’ve been camping since childhood or just last year, your first experience (good or bad) stays with you. We have both camped since childhood. For Cat, who grew up in a large industrial city, she remembers narrow lanes, cows and rolling green hills. Tent camping in a sheep farmers field with access to wild sandy beaches and a rocky harbor with ride pools that fascinated the city dweller. Kev had a more varied experience. He remembers beach camping on bluffs in pup tents exploring coves and tide pools with his family. He also has fabulous memories of exploring the local mountains with their youth group. Our latest video (link in bio) is our EPIC hike down into Bryce Canyon. Our intention was to hike only the Queens Trail to the Hoodoos, but it was only 3 miles. We opted to add on the Peekaboo Loop Trail at an additional 3 miles. It was a monumental hike! Our plan was to go down the canyon and back up. In actuality we summited the canyon 𝙁𝙄𝙑𝙀 times. It was exhausting, exhilarating and epic. Our scenic drive of Bryce Canyon is now in our latest videos (link in bio). We were up at 5:30 am to catch the sunrise over the Hoodoos which was magnificent. We hit all the stops on our scenic tour and even managed a short hike. Bryce is one of five popular National Parks in Utah and for good reason. One of main ‘must haves’ before we went full time was solar. We choose to boondock (live in the wilderness without power, water or sewer) so we knew we had to be able to live without constant generator use. We used @ccrvsolar who traveled across country to install our initial set up was three 410 watt panels and 2 100 amp hours @battlebornbatteries. Since then Derek from CCRVSOLAR has upgraded us to four panels and five batteries. We have learned that we can run our AC in the summer but not for long enough So, tomorrow, he is adding an additional 400 watts of panels and at least one more battery. Do you have solar? It’s from the top of Hurricane Ridge in Washington State where we were blessed to spend the summer months. We are so grateful that Cat was finally placed on the waiting list for much needed hip replacement. Merry Christmas from us. We started off Christmas with a little bit of drama after finding a lump on Dita and having to wait for Test Results back to find out if It was cancerous.
