Walking music today was the one and only album by DiAnno. Paul's first venture after Maiden. Musically very different. This is straight up Hard Rock with plenty of melody and muscle. Leaning towards AOR at times, but we're not talking Air Supply here 😆. Really strong songs and playing, 80s sure, but to my ears, it's aged well. Had this come out on EMI rather than an indie, it might have got more traction. That said, many of the "metal heads" that like Maiden probably wouldn't go for this. Ultimately, the band and album fell between the cracks. I found the series of 1980 Reading FRS on a blog site, downloaded them, and then cut the sets out with editing gear. Burned em to CD, then also put em on my iPod. Walking music today was a two parter (swipe) first up Be Bop Deluxe. Be Bop are only really remembered by true music fans. They didn't get mainstream acceptance ala Bowie. Bill Nelson is one of Rock's greatest guitar players yet rarely gets a mention in those stupid top 100 lists in magazines. There is a bonus live track on the reissue of Axe Victim. A live version of Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape that just kills me. Beautiful soloing from Bill and the keyboard player (I'm not sure which one, as I'm unsure of the year of the live recordings). It brings tears to my eyes it's so great. After each solo, the crowd applauds. It's really got the "feel." Second was the meat n potatoes Rock of BTO. They did some great stuff. Not a pretty band they made it on the music. One lyric from Stay Alive really jumped out ....... Walking music today courtesy of Bad Company. Their final album for Swan Song Rough Diamonds (yes, they reformed later). It's not a popular record, apparently. Got to No 15 here and 26 in the US. Yet I've never spoken to any one that likes it. I picked it up in 82 in a bargain bin for £1.99. It's not as hard rockin' as the old stuff, but the songs are top notch.
