Soprano Tríona Walsh, and Dr Yonit Kosovske, Piano, present a recital of nine songs exploring themes of ‘A Woman’s Life and Love’. Tríona was awarded an Agility Award by Arts Council Ireland in 2023, providing her with the opportunity to explore, in collaboration with Dr Kosovske, the song repertoire of women composers from Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677) through to African American composer, Margaret Bonds, American composers Amy Beach and Ellen Mandel, London born Rebecca Clarke and our very own Limerick composer, Fiona Linnane. In 1830, Adelbert von Chamisso published a cycle of nine poems which he named ‘Frauen-Liebe und Leben’ (A Woman’s Love and Life). These poems inspired masters of German Lied to interpret the poems in musical settings, the most famous of which were those of Robert Schumann. Research regarding the potential health benefits of singing is well developed, with a large body of work to support singing as a health and well-being intervention. Studies investigating the benefits of singing include evidence of the positive impact of singing on dementia, chronic obstructive pulmonary and respiratory disease and cancer. Singing is also indicated as a protective factor for cognitive decline. A review of literature on singing and respiratory health reported trends of positive physical and/or quality of life outcomes after a series of singing lessons. Significant positive benefits are also associated with singing lullabies to prenatal and newly born babies, particularly parent-infant bonding and post-natal depression. Free community choir in the Cathedral - open to all - please join us! 🎼No musical experience is needed, so please come along to sing, croak, whisper, roar, or bellow with us - whatever your voice is like, all you need to do is turn up and try! Rehearsals will be held in the Cathedral on Wednesdays at 7.30pm, starting 10th April and running for 8 weeks. If you can't make all the rehearsals, that's no problem :-) this is a fun, community, event, not a discipline! Bring your relatives, neighbours, children, and friends along. And if you are shy or anxious, and just want to sit for the first week or so, we'd love you to come and do that. If you have mobility issues, a disability, or health issue, we can accommodate you, and the Cathedral is an accessible building with disabled parking spaces. We are delighted to announce that the project will be facilitated by music therapist Aoife O’Reilly. Parish organist Irina Dernova will be the accompanist. The project will conclude with a public performance on 31st May, at 8pm, when the choir will sing at the opening and closing of a dramatic reading of the Voyage of St Brendan the Navigator, chosen to reflect our personal navigation through the storms and calms of life. Today, at The Millennium Theatre on the Moylish Campus. Vsevolod Sadovyi (tabor-pipe, dulcimer, tarotta, percussion) and Snezhana Rybalska (Galician bagpipes, cornemus de beri, fiddle, flutes) founded the European Renaissance music ensemble Galeon in 2015, blending reed and percussion instruments in innovative arrangements that combine Nordic cold restraint with the cheerful dialects of Iberian Galicia. Vsevolod is a musician and researcher from Lviv who, as well as co-founding the Lviv Music Guild, has performed in various ensembles from alternative to electronic music. Since 2004, he has explored the heritage of early and traditional European music as part of projects such as Minstrels Leopolita, Ground Folk, Vita Nova, Gardarica, Laterna Magica, Vita Norda, Lemko Bluegrass Band, and Kurbasy. Snezhana is founder of the medieval theatre ensemble Musica Radicum, staging many plays such as “Life of St. Olaf”, “Knight Olaf and the Queen of Elves”, “Tamlin” and “Sir Galevin”, as well as recording the album “Worlde Blis Ne Laste”. Since 2002 she has researched early and traditional European music, as well as street theatre in Vyborg Castle. Dear everybody, I'm so happy to officially annouce The Hugo Lynn Experience's second very own specially curated headline show will take place on 18th January in Pharmacia, Limerick. Boy does this put the "Experience" into "Experience"! We've got a stacked lineup giving you a taste of almost everything our beautiful country has to offer. We've got The Cliffords coming from Cork to give us some of the best indie rock ive ever heard. We've got Lil Skag coming from gorgeous sunny Wexford with bars and lingua oh so cunning.
