In 1216 the motte (hill) of the south side of the Round Tower was pummelled by large rocks for three months during a siege of Windsor Castle. In the 1820s George IV doubled the height of the Round Tower. . By the late 1980s the extra weight of the addition to the tower coupled with the effects of the siege 700 years earlier caused the foundations to show signs of slipping. Under the grass of the motte was unstable chalk rubble. . A huge work of civil engineering then took place to replace the foundations with a concrete ring beam which was supported on piles driven through the motte. THE SHAMBLES BAR🍷 . I’ve been meaning to visit @theshamblesbar for so long. It’s been on my list since they opened in the famous ‘crooked house’ last year! I finally got to pop in for a quick drink recently. The team were super friendly and welcoming, they let me try two wines before making my choice. I got a glass of Beck Pink Austrian rose, which was a beautiful wine!🍷 . I love the quirkiness of the building, the crooked house is iconic. It gives the bar character, it’s truely unique! I visited alone and got talking to other customers which was lovely. Solo date approved! It would also be perfect for catch ups with family & friends or a cute date spot. They are also a bottle shop so you can buy their wines to enjoy at home too🍷 . If you are looking for somewhere for a few drinks over the back holiday I’d defo recommend The Shambles! They recently won the @muddystilletos award for Best Bar in Berkshire which is so well deserved🏆👏🏻 It’s mainly walk ins only (unless your group is 6+ then I’d recommend booking ahead). Railyard Recreation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that is seeking to transform an underutilized 3-acre site in downtown Windsor into a vibrant community recreation hub. Our goal is to raise $20,000 from local sources - which will then be matched 2:1 by the Better Places Program - meaning we can leverage $20,000 into $60,000! What will it look like? The project will include the creation of a skatepark, pickleball courts, walking paths, dog park and picnic area. The project will provide recreational opportunities to residents of all ages and interests. The funds raised through the Better Places Program will be used for the purchase and installation of landscaping, benches, picnic tables and grills. The funds raised through this effort are critical to the construction of the project. We can do this TOGETHER! Every dollar raised will go directly to the project. Every year I competed Chloe it felt like such a treat to be able to show her off and I’m sure she’d love to come out of retirement and be back at it.
