A snapshot from the preparation of a wick for a client, to be burnt as part of a larger working for employment. A long rice paper scroll was adorned with all manner of talismans and written charms to the purpose, alongside the client’s petition, and rolled while carefully laminating each layer with wax from candles offered to the spirits involved in the work. Sulāyman‘s Mandal, much like Sulāyman‘s Seal (or Ring), entered the Kabbalistic tradition of medieval Spain from Arabic sources where it was cleansed of Islamic characteristics and reimagined as a text of angel magic by Jewish translators. Although some —more or less —direct translations from Arabic survive in Latin, this purified sub-type was the one that became widely disseminated. It was translated into Hebrew, French, German, and English as, Almadel, after the Hebrew intermediary title, Sefer ha-Almadil. The original Arabic text is concerned primarily with the exorcism of jinn and shaytan (demons) and nefarious operations such as subjugating and destroying one’s enemies. Although it is not a direct translation from Sanskrit, it draws primarily from the tantric practice of yantra puja. In this mid-18th C French edition shown above, this original essence has been lost. A few new books this week, and a few on order 💕 I'm exploring a few of threads at the moment, leading into Solomonic Magic, Renaissance Astrology, Daemonology, Arabic Astrology and the Lunar Mansions All in the vein of understanding the essence of the connection in the relationships between people, plants, animals and the divine rulers of the cosmos. Current ponderings: Theurgy (bringing the lower self into the higher self brining in divine union) is an individual journey, which is seeminging 'uncontrolled'. But when one can connect to one's heart, pray, and surrender to the Divine... That is a practice of Thaumatergy (the performance of miracles) it all takes place on a emotional and vibrational level. We just don't have access in our mind, to comprehend it, but it happens... So why do people think it isn't real. Because everyones perception of reality is different. It is based on their lived experience and their own interpretation. My reality is my reality and it doesn't really matter if someone else doesn't 'believe me' I know it is real because of my experience with it. Not in an egotistical way. But from both a heart centred place and one which has discernment, particularly around the distortions of beliefs and idiologies which things can be shrouded in. We arn't fully at the mercy of life like many make out. Orobas: Orobas is the 55th demon of the Ars Goetia. The infernal book states that Orobas is a prince of hell that has 20 legions of demons under his command. Fun fact, this is actually less than the average demon has control over, as most demons in the Ars Goetia have anywhere from 25-30 legions of demons. What’s interesting about Orobas is his honor. Unlike most other demons in both the Ars Goetia and literature, Orobas is said to be sworn to his summoner. Meaning that, so long as his crest is worn, Orobas will be totally faithful towards you, and will not allow any of the spirits under his command tempt you. Orobas’s appearance is a weird one. If you’re familiar with the Ars Goetia, you’ll know that the descriptions of what these demons look like can be extremely interesting and intimidating. However, Orobas is just a horse. Yep. Though this Prince of hell can turn into a human on command, when he is initially summoned, he is just a horse. Not even a giant horse, or an evil looking horse, just a normal horse, 🐴 Anyways, what Orobas lacks in appearances he more than makes up for in terms of knowledge and power. Orobas is said to be able to discover anything from the past, present, and future, and to enhance the reputation of his summoner. The Ars Goetia isn’t clear on how this happens, but it does say that you’ll be able to have such a good reputation that you’ll be able to hold a high seat in churches, which is a horrific thought to consider. The final item in Orobas’s toolkit is his knowledge of divinity and the Creation, of which he’s willing to honestly share any detail about them. Though I’ve given Orobas a lot of crap this post, it does seem that he’s one of the more kind demons. Still don’t summon demons and all that, but if you had to pick one, Orobas should be in your top five.
