🌸 Conosciute fin dai tempi di Omero per le loro proprietà curative, le 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐞 devono il loro nome a Peone. Peone, identificato in diversi testi antichi come il Medico degli Dei dell’Olimpo e allievo di Esculapio, viene tramutato in fiore da Plutone in segno di ringraziamento per averlo curato da una ferita inflittagli da Ercole. This friday at the Silk Museum in Macclesfield, Pool Artist Simon Mawdsley’s solo show opens. This sees an evolution of Simon’s highly evolved abstract practice, into figurative work directly inspired by the Thunderbird character cards he collected in his youth. The thematic exploration of 80s’ & 90s’ music and popular culture, usually focussing on the Madchester scene which he was a part of, swerves into a the childlike ideology that proceeded his madchester life. Il progetto "Storie di lago lungo un filo di seta" finanziato da Fondazione Cariplo unisce e accomuna tre musei iconici del territorio lariano: il @museosetacomo, il Museo del Ciclismo e il Museo della barca lariana. Alcune settimane fa mi è stato chiesto di essere parte di questo progetto proponendo delle #esperienzesensoriali legate alla dimensione dell' #olfatto, in un dialogo ideale tra il #profumo e queste realtà. Una sfida affascinante, da progettare in modo esclusivo per ciascun museo. Del Museo del ciclismo vi ho già raccontato in post precedenti e vi racconterò ancora, domenica vivremo l'esperienza laboratoriale al Museo della seta, ispirandoci alla preziosità dei tessuti e dei materiali d'archivio, oltre che allo spettacolare #abitopeonie esposto temporaneamente al museo. Sto preparando i miei materiali e anche il "rituale" dell'acquisto dei #diarideiprofumi è occasione di bellezza. Che si ripete ad ogni appuntamento profumato. Mi reco nella dimora bellissima di @lucidiakasha e sempre mi accoglie una coccola da condividere di fronte a una tazza di tè. Mi avvolgono i profumi del mondo e quelli che sprigiona la carta, la sensazione tattile del taglio delle copertine e dei fogli dei quaderni antichi, le immagini che sempre interpretano con precisione assoluta i sentimenti che voglio evocare. È un piccolo momento di distillata felicità. We're delighted to announce that Silk Museum has received £165k from Arts Council England’s Capital Investment Programme. The award will help to transform the Silk Museum building’s accessibility and it will be used to make the building more sustainable and lessen its overall environmental impact. It will enable the creation of a Jacquard Studio, improve the storage facilities and access to the remarkable collection of Pattern Books. It will also improve creative opportunities for artists by supporting co-curated displays inspired by the museum’s collections. And it will allow more of the work that the museum delivers with community groups with special needs, visual impairment, and low cultural engagement. The Silk Museum is the largest dedicated museum about the development of silk in the north of England and has one of the largest collections of pattern books relating to the textiles produced in Macclesfield. [Focus sur les collections] Les collections du Musée de la Soierie abritent des trésors parmi lesquels une robe signée du couturier français Jacques Griffe ! 🧵 Aujourd’hui peu connu du grand public, Jacques Griffe (1909-1996) est un nom important dans l’histoire de la haute couture. Il débute en travaillant auprès de Madeleine Vionnet, figure majeure de la mode de l’entre-deux guerres. Jacques Griffe fonde sa propre maison en 1941, il est très vite reconnu pour son savoir-faire tant dans le travail de la matière que de la couleur. La robe dos nu que nous vous présentons aujourd’hui en est un parfait exemple. Sa couleur vive ainsi que ses motifs floraux sont caractéristiques des années 1960. 🌸 Ces derniers sont d’ailleurs réalisés selon un savoir-faire devenu rare, le velours au sabre. Entièrement réalisée à la main, cette technique consiste à venir couper les fils de la chaîne supérieure du satin pour créer un motif en velours à l’aide d’une lame en acier appelée sabre. “The Knitting of the Artificial Silk into beautiful materials has been the natural development of an old Hand-craft.” 🧶 The Langley Knitting Company published this catalogue in the 1920s, showcasing their products made from artificial silk knitted on machines. This was a department of William Whiston & Son. Our collection holds two bags similar to examples in the catalogue. The paisley designs on the bags reflect Langley’s rich heritage of hand block printing. 🦁 MACCLESFIELD TOWN SEAL 🦁 The charter of Privileges by Prince Edward in 1261 gave the town status as a free borough. The seal reads “SIGILLV(M) COMMVNE VILLE DE MACCLESFELD” or “COMMON SEAL OF THE TOWN OF MACCLESFIELD” This significant object is one of our oldest items of Macclesfield history, with a mysterious past. The seal matrix dates from 1261 to around 1325, and was donated to the museum in 2021. When this jar was unearthed at a burial site, located at Oingtai Village site, Xingyang, Henan Province. it contained the corpse of _an infant in a seated posture_. Multiple layers of silk fragments were adhering to the corpse’s head and limbs. An examination of the material confirmed that it is silk, both plain tabby and luo gauze. The material wrapped around the corpse of a child was silk of two different types, plain tabby and luo gauze, were the earliest known dyed textile in the world at that time. *This jar is estimated to buried 5500 -4785 years ago* ! It proves that Chinese ancestors started to raise silkworms and make silk as early as 5000 years ago in the Yellow River Basin, and silk fabrics were widespread at that time !! Louis Pasteur found a prophylactic method against pebrine. ▪️ One of the main activities of the Caucasian Sericulture Station was to control the eggs using the Pasteur method and to spread healthy eggs among local farmers.
