Sliding into @runcolfax race weekend like @jhiggins927! There’s a packed weekend ahead of race expo, shakeout runs, and race day celebrations! We have a few options for our crew this Sunday, if you’re not racing: 1️⃣ Field trip to City Park! Some of our crew will be meeting at City Park around 7:30 AM. They’ll be heading off for 3 to 5 miles around the park at 7:45 AM. They plan to return to the @runcolfax finish line area to cheer on the racers 🥳 then they’ll be hanging out at the park for post-race festivities! The last solo running race that I ran was the Boston Marathon in April 2023! My training cycle was weak, the weather wasn't great, and I didn't have a great race. So I took a step back from racing, and if I'm being totally honest, I just haven't felt super motivated! But this Sunday I'm back at it! I'm running the @runcolfax 10miler...with a lofty goal of sub 7min mile pace and/or a top 5 finish. This is a distance I've never run before, and I'm excited to push my fitness. This is not just a "hometown" race. The 2nd half of this race runs through my neighborhood and finshes in the park I run in. Got in some trail time on a new to me trail!! 😍 The wildflowers were poppin', but so were the grasshoppers. 🥴 The grasshoppers were hitting me all over. They kept getting stuck in my braids, my hydration vest, my shirt. One even hit my mouth so hard I thought I was going to get a fat lip. 🤣 I ended up calling the run earlier than planned. I've been battling a mild cold since Tuesday. I've been trying to focus on listening to my body better since my injuries, and today, my lungs and legs felt fine, but my body was so tired. As soon as I got to the car and stopped, a wave of exhaustion hit me, and I knew I made the right decision. 9 more miles today will not impact my race. Sunsets just hit different on the trail! Maybe it’s the high elevation, or maybe the effort you put into a summit. Green Mountain in Lakewood offers excellent views in all directions! It’s easy to get to, and don’t miss the wildflowers in a month or so. I love this hike for its relatively easy and mostly paved trail, with dozens of dirt tracks branching off: endless loop combinations! . This view extends north towards Wyoming. To celebrate the end of the high school track & field season, Denver Athletics is hosting The Front Range Classic to see which city has the best track & field team in Colorado. The meet will have live scoreboard results, stadium music and announcing, post-race interviews, food trucks, and giveaways throughout the meet. Come out for one last FAT time before the summer! When registering, athletes will choose the city they want to represent- Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, or Colorado Springs. Athletes can also register as unattached. Back to back long runs are getting real. 29 miles in 2 days. 🤯 9 miles tonight on heavy legs. I was moving slow, but I felt great. I was surprised at how even though my legs were tired, I could've kept going if I needed to. I'm hoping to get some more trail miles coming up. We can't wait to see ya this weekend, here's the route we have on deck: 6.25 miles total (with the option to not go down to REI, turning at the stadium instead for 3.6 miles): - starting out from the brewery, heading right on Perry St towards the Gulch - follow the Gulch all the way up to the Platte River Trail and hang a left - option to turn left at Mile High Stadium and head back to the brewery - otherwise stay straight on the Platte River Trail down to REI - turn around at the Confluence Park bridge in front of REI and head back towards Mile High - take a right around the stadium and head uphill on Bryant St - hang a left to Jefferson Park, follow the sidewalk straight up 22nd Ave, crossing Federal - follow 22nd through the neighborhood and take a left on Meade - right on 17th St back to Odell! We'll see ya on the @odellbrewingsloans steps at 9:30am! As always, the Sloan's Lake loop is available for walk/run. WORLD MARATHON MAJORS, with Lauren Dreiling 🏅 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅 VJ: What was tougher, training for the run or raising charity funds? - @lkdreiling: Both aspects are challenging, but I think just training for and completing a marathon is difficult! What I loved about fundraising for charity was the direct connection to my training. Just like the marathon training, fundraising is a gradual build. I was more cognizant to share my training milestones. - VJ: What race was the toughest, and which race was the most beautiful? - @lkdreiling: This may be a bit controversial, but I think New York was the toughest! There is elevation gain and descent the entire course due to the bridges, so you never have much reprieve. I will note, I was MUCH better strength trained for Boston than I was when I ran New York; we shall see if this opinion changes when I run New York again this fall! - Most beautiful course of the World Marathon Majors? That may be like asking to choose your favorite child! Chicago was my first marathon EVER and I fell in love…. Being able to see Lake Michigan in the distance is pretty spectacular. Chicago—easiest start line to get to! - New York—the most iconic start line: Cannon send off for each wave of runners, Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” blasting, and running up and over the Verrazano Bridge. WOW. - Berlin, in my opinion, was the most underrated major… I had the race of my life there! Tokyo—the nicest volunteers and the best post-race warming attire. I can’t say enough nice things about the Tokyo volunteers! Every single volunteer had the biggest smile… and beyond excited to be there. Boston is the… most sought-after marathon in the world and for good reason! I am certain all of the majors make a grand conclusion for a 6-star journey, but for me, it HAD to be Boston as the finale.
