"Racing is the fun part; it's the reward of all the hard work" - Kara Goucher. The fun part is indeed well underway. Kudos to Team Running Niche's Marie O'Leary, Adam Walker and Ashleigh Niklaus. The Grand Rapids Riverbank Run, May 11, served as the USATF National 25 Kilometer (15.5 miles) USA Championship. Marie finished 15th overall in a PR 1:34:09 and Adam 11th overall, also in a PR 1:18:09. Last Saturday Ashleigh Niklaus went to Joplin, MO to run the Joplin Memorial Half Marathon and came away with a W and a new PR of 1:28:23. Congrats to these 3 athletes and to all the runners out there this past week toeing the starting line and putting themselves out there. We're open 12-4 today, Sunday! Hey, we are hosting a pet safety event today 5-6:30PM. Here's a description of the event and one note, please don't bring your pet, Jenny Dove who is conducting it will bring her two dogs for her to demonstrate. Thanks. "Running Niche and Kennelwood Pet Resorts are teaming up for a complimentary pet safety seminar. Team Running Niche's Jenny Dove will conduct a professional demo on pet CPR and discussion on fundamental pet first aid. Jenny's dogs Chloe and Kali, will allow attendees to learn about vitals, checking pulse and practice bandaging techniques. Stuff dogs will be provided for you when learning about CPR. (Please do not bring your pets). Additionally, Jenny will give tips on running safely with your dog, how to respond if a loose dog approaches and warm weather safety for pets. Jenny has a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science and is the Education Coordinator at Kennelwood Pet Resorts. She has worked with Asian and African elephants at the St. Louis Zoo and Grants Farm for over 7 years and is a certified Pet CPR & First Aid instructor. Light refreshments provided. Team Running Niche was well represented at the @gostlouis 5K/10K/Half Marathon/Marathon last weekend. We were 85 strong across the races. We'll do our best to recognize our athletes over the next week or so, but we'll start with Marie and Adam and our team. Marie won the Half Marathon and led a TRN 1,3,5,7,9 women's finish. Adam also won the Half Marathon and led a TRN 1,2,3 and 7 finish. We're very proud of our overall team as well because GO! St. Louis implemented a Running Club competition for the first time where clubs earn points for participants, volunteers and cheering stations. Team Running Niche placed 2nd in the Large Club division. Thank you to our runners for all your hard work and for hitting the streets of St. Louis last Saturday. You'll be excited to know one of our awards is a private team port-o-potty at next year's race for Team Running Niche!! Special visitors in the shop this week and we are honored to host them. The President and CEO of Asics North America, Koichiro Kodama, came to see us with our sales rep Byron. Kodama-San is a friend of @runningnichebob from their years in the shoe biz. (It's a small industry). We are very proud to have Asics running shoes in our shop. Today we had the Mizuno product development team from Japan visit us. Daimon-San, Kawanishi-San and Honda-San shared some new products they are working on for late 2025. Open today, Saturday, 10-5. One of the most fun parts of Lydiard training is during the last phase, and taper, the athlete can race. This morning Madison earned a new PR at the Cooper River Bridge 10k, 41:15, by 1:32! She's headed to a nice 13.1 at the end of the month. And last night, wow, was reminded how much I enjoyed track back in the day. Sarah and Matt have a marathon in a week, and this weekend called for a 5K time trial. So, they got themselves entered into a college track meet last night at SLU. Sarah ended up winning it in a new PR of 17:43, while Matt ran 15:59 also a new 5K PR and held his own against the college kids! @runningnichebob is enjoying an interesting adventure with TRN's Andrew Hargis. He's got the ultra-bug and we're adapting Lydiard training principles in his journey to his first 50 miler. I'd say so far so good as he put down a 3:32 marathon Sunday on top of 16 miles the day before. His 26.2 all under control and right on target heart rate. Thank you to over 70 runners & walkers who showed up for the Fleet Feet Fort Wayne Community Pantry Ruck Run! Special thanks to all of our Veterans, Race for the Warrior, and Eric Flores for joining us. Thanks to Bravas Restaurant for hosting. You all are doing great things! Over 1600 lbs of food provided , 1250 items collected, 360 collective miles run as a group on behalf of our Fort Wayne community pantries! We also hope that this event has brought awareness to the need for food to low income families and individuals within the Fort Wayne Community . The 7 pantries visited & stocked today only represent a fraction of the 33 pantries that exist in our community. Please continue to visit and stock all these pantries often.
