Very much working within my limits at the moment in terms of what I can do and what I can’t. 15 weeks post surgery. Believe me, I’d to be doing more, and it’s frustrating, but this is not the time to get carried away. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that I’d lost quite a lot of followers. This made me feel quite sad, like you can spend years being creative and putting stuff out there, but a couple of months of injury and you’re kicked out of favour. Injuries are real and very much part of this industry, but it feels like people are turned off by that knowledge, at exactly the time when you need support 🤷🏼♀️ People are allowed to follow who they like, and everyone has their reasons for what they want to see and nobody owes me anything - maybe my content is just rubbish 🤣 but I just feel a bit sad about it. Interesting case from yesterday. This patient dislocated her shoulder a month ago. She was treated by an outside surgeon with a closed reduction, which did not work. This was followed by an open reduction. During surgery, the surgeon noticed a large rotator cuff tear which he attempted to repair, but the patient dislocated again after surgery. Our 3D CT scan shows the large glenoid fracture in the front of the shoulder, and the Hill-Sachs fracture in the back of her humeral head. This bone loss pattern, in combination with the irreparable rotator cuff tear, makes reverse shoulder replacement the ideal choice to help stabilize her shoulder. Your surgery team is gonna tell you the normal stuff you need after shoulder surgery, sling, ice machine, medications, and that’s about it. But there’s a lot of stuff you don’t think of before you have shoulder surgery, so from a 7 time shoulder surgery veteran here are some things I can’t live without post op. 1- a camelback set on my bed, so I can drink water in the middle of the night without having to get up/roll over/move at all, hydration is so important. 2. Long handled scalp and body scrubber brush, this helps in the shower scrub shampoo really well into my scalp and use soap all over my body. This one in particular is from EOT wellness on Amazon. 3. Deodorant wipes, I can’t get a roll of deodorant under my armpit yet so these are a lifesaver, it’s a thin wipe just like a baby wipe and I can get it under my shoulder and helps with the Florida sweatiness. I love the ones from @lafreshgroup. 4. Back scratcher, the arm you have surgery on you essentially can’t use for a few weeks so you can’t scratch certain areas of your body and it’s so frustrating when you have an itch you can’t scratch, I got one with an extendable handle (especially since my right arm is also fused I have very limited range of motion right now). 5. Wedge pillow and SO MANY PILLOWS. I have a wedge pillow and 6 other pillows on my bed right now. 6. Extra long extension cord so you can have your phone charger, ice machine, heating pad, and laptop or anything else you need plugged in super close to you that you don’t need to bed down to grab. These are just a few essentials I thought I’d share in case you’re having shoulder surgery for the first time soon and want to be a little more prepared. After vomiting for 48+ hours straight and not being able to keep down food, water, Gatorade or even meds I landed myself a fun little visiting to the emergency room this evening. Unfortunately my body thinks it can yeet the pain out of my body by vomiting and that’s how it reacts to pain more than anything else, and it got to the point where my pain was so bad I was vomiting so much I couldn’t even keep my pain meds down, so then my pain started getting significantly worse, and it was just a pain-vomit-pain-vomit hellacious cycle. Luckily I was able to get seen super quickly and after some IV Zofran, Pepcid, Reglan, Benadryl and 2 bags of saline I feel like I can stand up without wanting to pass out for the first time in about 36 hours. I didn’t realize just how shitty I really had been feeling just from that, so I’m back home and getting tucked into bed with pain meds and oral antiemetics and hoping to get some good solid sleep tonight and start this next week of recovery in a much better state.
