Seat for Thought This series of 7 riso prints starring yellow monobloc chairs is going to Seattle!! We've bound them together under the sewingmachine for the Seattle Art Book Fair. They're gonna be part of the 'Climate Emergency Reading Room'. This is a is a new, roving physical and digital archive of climate- and earth-related zines, artist publications, books, and related materials. Thanks @pistachio_date for reaching out to us and for sending it there. The publication has 7 riso prints and a short written piece in the back: The monobloc is probably one of the most famous chairs in the world. But it’s fame does not bring all glory. People turn up their noses at its image of ultimate cheapness and mass production. So what do they mean here? What’s their story? Is the plastic (garden) chair perhaps a metaphor? Or a riddle, or ... what? What on earth could these chairs have to say about the world we live in? Besides the fact that the waste disposal of the material is a thorn in the environmentalist side. Is there even a story behind them at all? Or are they featured just for fun? And if it’s not meant to be comical, then why does one of them have chicken legs and another human looking, hairy ones? For us, the prints raise questions on a variety of topics, social, socio-economic, ecological and political. And by extension, climate change, because this critical problem is intertwined with all other developments anywhere in the world. But as with everything you encounter in life, these prints can be interpreted in multiple ways. Depending on one’s own perspective and frame of reference. And since it is more interesting what viewers get out of it themselves, we won’t eleborate here on our specific views. Hopefully seeds will be planted for a dialogue that expands one’s own perspective. And that these seeds may grow into responsible action. Wow, that’s a bit much for a couple of prints with plastic chairs, isn’t it? Yeah, maybe it is. But if only a few people would indeed expand their way of thinking a little bit by discussing a few silly yellow chairs in a series of riso prints.... Why not give it a try?!

These last weeks of the school I had an artist block so I made these from referencing myself. My themes were to make a wanted poster and a sign. I used Riso or Rizzo to rizz my wanted poster. The other one we had to carve it, then print and carve. Crap was annoying asfrick but at the end of the day just a finished product. Wat is er nou zo bijzonder aan zo’n risoprinter horen we jullie denken? We zullen het vertellen!! 💙🖨 Een risoprinter werkt op basis van een zeeftechniek, vergelijkbaar met een zeefdruk maar dan dus in een printer. Hij brengt een ontwerp door middel van een dunne laag was aan op een master, en die komt vervolgens via de inktrol terecht op het papier.🤩 Voor het drukken maakt de risoprinter gebruik van speciale Japanse rijstinkt, die op basis van sojabonen is gemaakt. Deze inkt is grotendeels op waterbasis, waardoor het een duurzame techniek is zodat wij de aarde er niet mee slopen! ❤️🌳 Deze manier van drukken produceert hele heldere, uitgesproken kleuren. De inkt wordt door kleine gaatjes gedrukt, waardoor niet alleen de kleuren helder en levendig zijn, maar ook een unieke textuur ontstaat in de prints.🌸 Deze manier van drukken is interessant voor meerdere disciplines!
