Today, on International Women’s Day, I’m reminded of the incredible strength, determination and resilience that women embody every damn day. We effortlessly switch hats, providing love, support, and guidance. We manage schedules, plan meals, and create memories that last a lifetime - all while building ourselves professionally outside the home. Whether that’s running our own business or climbing the corporate ladder. Despite the challenges we face, we continue to rise, proving that there’s nothing we can’t handle. To all the women out there: you are powerful beyond measure. Let’s continue to support, uplift, and honor all the amazing women who make the world a better place, one role at a time. Rewilding the Artists Microdoc: Making Visible at Afon Ogwen A microdoc about my practice has been created to highlight the amount of help that a disabled artist can require, particularly if out on location. Often the support is unseen, making it appear that no support is required, which can have a negative effect on others when considering whether the arts are accessible. What is hidden becomes unknown. I am a firm believer in the concept of ‘if you can see someone who looks like you achieve something, it then makes it possible for you to find a place for yourself there too’. Rewilding the Artist & Utopias Bach: Collaborative Ecosystem Quilt The quilt is a Creative response to looking after our ecosystem in the form of a collective made Quilt in partnership with Utopias Bach, a practical extension of safeguarding policy enabling us to consider more deeply our ecosystem. This aspect takes the form of gathering together as a collective, discussing aspects such as how Utopias Bach works as a collective, our individual and collective participation, how we manage difficulties and differences, and how we include people. These conversations are documented in the stitching/making and will come together as one quilt. The intention is that this will be added to at many events and spaces, adding the voices of others to the quilt. The concept of the quilt is loose and fluid. It is something that brings together many parts to become one whole. These parts can be added to and changed, reflected upon and when necessary repaired. Working on the quilt creates space for the thought process. However, at times the quilt also becomes the space, possibly in the form of a den or tent. It is in all these ways spoken about, that this process mirrors the collective. Rewilding the Artist: In the dye pot (aka. my Granny's old jam kettle) 12 days dress - the basic shape has been created. Wording, more colour & mark making will be added after the dye process. Soya milk mordant Black bean cooking & soaking water Scraps of fabric with and without mordant. It's first time during with black beans so I'm really interested in the outcome.
