This painting was made during the period when Picabia joined the Puteaux Group and transitioned from Cubism to Orphism. Although titled "The Red Tree," suggesting a representational subject, it appears almost like an abstract painting. It doesn't evoke much sense of a living tree, but rather gives a metallic impression.
