@bylinescymru Performing artists with Long Covid and their allies, including charities Long Covid Kids, Long Covid SOS and Long Covid Support offered awareness ribbons and masks to those attending the BAFTAs. The ribbon giveaway was coordinated by Protect the Heart of the Arts - @heartofthe_arts - a grassroots advocacy campaign sounding the alarm on the escalating crisis of long Covid in the performing arts. Fabulous to see actor David Tennant taking an active interest in it as BAFTA host. This is part of the run-up to Long Covid Awareness Day on 15 March, when in person and online activities will be held around the world. Protect the Heart of the Arts members maintain a spreadsheet covering cancellations, illnesses, and tragic deaths of performers from Covid, which is now 153 pages long. Actor Emma Samms, patron of @longcovidsos elaborates on some of the adjustments she requires for work now. “Every time I’ve worked since I’ve had long Covid, I’ve had to have a dressing room close to the elevator, a nearby bathroom, a stunt double and a body double for anything strenuous. And my scenes have had to be blocked in a certain way to ensure I was sitting down most of the time.” “I’m very lucky that after working on the same show for the past 40 years, the producers have gone the extra mile to accommodate my condition.
