12/52 Fryingpan Mountain Lookout tower, Falling Rock,Looking glass falls. (1.9 miles) Pisgah National Forest. I canāt believe I have lived this close to this beautiful forest and havenāt visited these places before. The waterfall was a super short hike down over a platform. Though Sliding rock was the highlight of the day for me. You slide down a slightly mossy covered rock in absolutely freezing water to plunge in at the bottom. Itās so cold it takes your breath away. It was even too cold for the water snake we saw that day. This is the surprise that was waiting for me when I decided to take an overgrown spur trail I never knew existed on my hike this weekend. It was a grey and soggy morning. It wasnāt supposed to rain, but it was drizzling. The fog was gorgeous. The spur trail was extremely narrow in the best spots. Basically a bushwhack. I lost track of it more than once. The foliage was drenchedāand ready to unload its accumulated rainfall on my NOT waterproof joggers with every step. I wasnāt *really* prepared to get wet, but it was warm, so I plowed ahead. By the time I reached this scene, I was literally dripping. Shoes, socks, pants ā soaked like Iād gone swimming. But this sheer cliff, this blooming laurel, this breathtaking spot that Iād walked above countless times before and not even knownā¦. In Bent Creek, over 20 volunteers and our dedicated Trail Crew worked on Wolf Branch, addressing several key issues. From cleaning drains to constructing a 30-foot turnpike to solve a pesky seep area, the team did an incredible job! Beautiful weekend of peaking ā°ļøThree major climbs and too many breathtaking sights to count! Last year this race took me by surprise. My breathing takes off from the start and never lets up. My chest gets sore from relentless heaving. Over 12 hours of extreme ups and downs and praying for our safety the whole time because one misstep and you could be in trouble. So many high fives and cheering each other on. Fantastic memories with @luizabarteldesfarinha @nicholstireandauto @rebeltrucker2024 and missing our favorite aid station smiler and fellow trail runner @scorpio_spartan. Celebrated another fantastic finish with Luiza and had a fun birthday dinner with Brian and little B. Jason, you make it all possible. Craggy Gardens Pinnacle trail is a short 1-mile out and back hike to a lovely 360-degree viewpoint overlooking the Blue Ridge Parkway, about 40 minutes from Asheville. Third time Iāve hiked to Rich Mountain Fire tower. Each time has been in a different season, and this was one of my favorites! About a 45 minute drive from our rentals, this hike is a little over 5 miles with 1400 ft elevation gain.
