Unsere Zeit in Neuseeland war nach 9 Wochen vorbei und es war so richtig gut dort. Unser Roadtrip aber würde noch weitergehen - zum Glück - nur auf einem neuen Kontinent: Amerika! Zunächst fuhren wir nach 12 Stunden Flug und der Landung in San Francisco mit Uber ins Motel in der Nähe des berühmten Pier 39 - Fisherman`s Wharf. Dort verbrachten wir 3 Nächte - um anzukommen und San Francisco zu erkunden. Wir werden dieses Jahr nicht oft in irgendwelchen Unterkünften, sondern überwiegend in Campern schlafen. Es fühlte sich jetzt nach den vergangenen 9 Wochen gleich etwas seltsam an. Wir waren schon oft in den USA und lieben es hier. Die Landschaft ist großartig und die Leute sind unglaublich nett und einfach cool. San Francisco war, so wie früher schon, beeindruckend, aber verdammt teuer. Natürlich sind wir auf die Golden Gate Bridge gegangen und haben sie knapp bis zur Hälfte überquert. Wir waren bei der kurvigen Lombardstreet, sind mit der Tram über die Hügel der Stadt gefahren und haben uns lässig raushängen lassen. Wer aber zu viert per Fahrrad die Stadt erkunden will, ist schnell weit über 100 Dollar los. Ein Besuch der Gefängnisinsel Alcatraz würde zwischen 300 und 400 Dollar kosten, obwohl sie per Boot in ganz wenigen Minuten erreichbar ist. All solche Dinge haben wir uns verkniffen. Und was das Essen angeht: es mussten ein paar Tage Fastfood sein, alles andere geht preislich gar nicht, es sei denn, man kocht selbst. Und so haben wir unsere Tage dort mit einer Mikrowellenlasagne beendet. Fazit: San Francisco bietet viel und ist der perfekte Einstieg für einen USA-Aufentalt. Nach 3 Tagen reichte es dann aber auch, insbesondere dem Geldbeutel und natürlich, weil es für uns ja mit dem Roadtrip weitergehen sollte. Doch dazu bald mehr.
