🏕️ Lake Anna 2.0 was another one for the books! 💚 Grateful for the @outsiders.together for bringing us all together. That time I went hiking with a total stranger…. ✈️ Storytime! Last April I had a 5 hour layover in Charlotte, NC and knew I didn’t want to spend all that time sitting in the airport. I had been part of the Facebook group for @outsiders.together, for some time, which serves as a forums for solo travelers to connect and go on new adventures together. 🧔🏽 I posted in the group & got connected with Aaron! Aaron said that he lived near the Charlotte airport and was willing to pick me up so we could grab food or go explore. He mentioned hiking at Crowder’s Mountain, about 30 min from the airport. He said he had never been before but heard it was usually a pretty crowded spot. As I was going to meet a total stranger and hike in the woods with this person, the more people on the trail, the better! I said “let’s do it!” 💻 I did a little internet-searching of this person based on the limited info I had, and felt comfortable with meeting up with them. After all, I was meeting him at the airport, so I could always just not get in his car if I sensed something sketchy. 🥾 Crowder’s Mountain was awesome! It is managed by @ncstateparks and had a great visitor center and plenty of parking by the trailhead. We started our ascent on clay/soil-ground and walked through a gorgeous forest teeming with new spring growth. 🍻 We enjoyed the views (including a far-off Charlotte skyline) and then made our way back down. We stopped at a local spot for lunch & brews and then Aaron dropped me back at the airport! I am so glad I took the risk of meeting up with a stranger— it was well worth it! I absolutely recognize that this could have gone poorly. I also recognize that my experience as a white woman is not necessarily going to be the same as that of a person of color. I have privilege and protection as a solo traveler and don’t take that for granted. 📍 Crowder’s Mountain lies within the stolen, ancestral land of the Eastern Cherokee, Catawba, and Sugaree peoples. #outsiderstogether #crowdersmountain #ncstateparks

When I took these pictures a little over a year ago, I had no idea how hard I would end up falling for this goofy man. We had just gotten done camping with a group of friends in the Mojave for New Years, and decided to caravan back to Utah together, stopping at this abandoned water park. Luna had torn up one of her paw pads playing at camp so Ignatius was kind enough to carry her in a backpack while we explored. Crazy to think that a little over a year later, we are looking at apartments and spending everyday with each other. Losing the identity of most things I was when I first moved here to CO 3 years ago. Two things have remained - my two doggos that I love more than anything and my love for Jesus. 3 Ways To Find Free, Beautiful Campsites 🏕️ 🚐 1) Look up the Forest Service or BLM Land maps of the area, or call the local offices and ask about free camping nearby. 2) Explore where others have boondocked through apps like @ioverlander @thedyrt, FreeRoam, or freecampsites.net Always make sure that the spots people have recommended are actually legal to camp! Check for “no overnight camping/parking” signs and check the local Forest Service/BLM map if you’re unsure. 3) Join outdoor / camping / van life communities and FB Groups where you can ask others for their advice and recommendations! There is usually ample space to set up camp, let the dog run around, and enjoy nature. Getting to experience paddling and swimming amidst the bioluminescence was such a magical experience. We saw a plethora of schools of fish that swam along us and some got to see dolphins and the rocket launch.
