The 20-24 April and 25-29 April 2024 Great White Shark Expedition with Shark Biology Course have just ended. Sadly we didn't see any great white shark. For unknown reasons they've been absent from the area for the past couple of months. Both groups of guests were fabulous and the crew of Rodney Fox Shark Expeditions was fantastic as usual, therefore even without great whites this back-to-back couple of cruises at the Neptune Islands was still an awesome experience. I'm glad guests enjoyed my 90 minute daily lectures on shark biology on board the MV Rodney Fox. Next year's Great White Shark Expedition with Shark Biology Course in Australia will take place from 16 to 22 September 2025. It's going to be a 6 day / 6 night trips. September is a very reliable month for the presence of great white sharks, and I'm confident that we'll be able to see them. Details will be announced very soon. This shot is pretty well known by now after appearing on the cover of the current Alert Diver, but I wanted to see what similars might have come from that particular encounter. After all, it was high speed motor drive on a Canon R5, 12 frames per second. I found these 3 shots, consecutive with same time code, all taken at 11:52:48 AM. I really wasn’t prepared for how close the sharks get to the cage. This shark was that close I could have touched it. I was using a 16mm focal length for this shot. To eyeball a great white was a life highlight! Can’t wait to get back to the Neptune Islands again.
