Sofia* has been in services with Reset-Chicago for over 7 months now and shared with staff that she has felt truly cared for in that time. She stated that the genuine care she felt has provided her with a new sense of hope for her life. While in services, Sofia made the big decision to step away from a life of exploitation. She attributes this to her newfound sense of respect for herself. Knowing her value has given her a stronger sense of identity and belief in herself as well as the courage to take this significant step. The hope and sense of worth Sofia feels is what we desire for every woman who enters our services. Our team at Reset offers immediate support, a listening ear, and steps to a different life to every woman who walks through the door. Women are met where they are at and empowered to move towards a new way of life - just like Sofia. Help us encourage Sofia on her journey! *name changed to protect privacy #naomishouse #hopeliveshere #hopeandhealing

Meet Maggie! Maggie is one of our Program Advocates at Reset-Elgin! She studied Social Work and Ministry from Hope College, holds a Masters of Forensic Social Work from Aurora University, and is a licensed social worker. In her free time, Maggie loves to lift heavy weights and make music. When asked why she decided to work for Naomi’s House, she said, “I felt God calling me to serve Him by serving others.” Her favorite part of the job is seeing the women we serve start to gain a sense of hope for their future. We are so grateful for your presence on our team, Maggie! #meetourteam #naomishouse #hopeliveshere

“I finally feel like I am part of a community - like I belong." “Girl, you’re not just welcome in this community, you are essential to this community.” This recent conversation between two of our Reside clients brought tears to our eyes. This feeling of belonging is foreign to some survivors and we know just how special it is for them to experience it within our programs. Reside is a long-term program that provides opportunity for participants to find connection and belonging while healing alongside others who have similar experiences. Sadly, some of our participants come from backgrounds with limited access to safe, healthy community and some have never experienced a sense of belonging. We make it one of our goals to come alongside these women and provide the kind of care that leads to feelings of belonging, safety, and support. Join us in fostering this sense of belonging and love. During a recent graduation ceremony, the graduate shared that “This program has helped me more than any other program I have been through.” This is WHY we do what we do + the REASON we are… ~ trauma-informed ~ comprehensive ~ individualized ~ strengths-based ~ faith-based At Naomi’s House, we are aware of the unique needs of survivors and provide services that address those needs...filling the gaps in outside programming. This focused care combined with our key elements are what make us effective and why survivors, like this recent graduate, are finding true healing, hope, and change. #naomishouse #hopeliveshere

Naomi’s House & Jack’s Place sibling activity days have become an annual Easter event. The days are all about siblings having fun, making new friends and helping to relieve isolation. This was their most recent day at Ferny Crofts Scout Activity Centre, which involved raft building, a zip wire experience, crate stacking & pizza making to name but a few… We are so proud to have been able to fund this day, that made such a difference to all the children that attended. Thank you for supporting what we do, which enables days like this to happen. Faith-based. This element is the undercurrent of our entire organization and informs every other aspect of our work. We believe God is glorified when his people act as the hands and feet of Christ in a broken world. Motivated by God’s heart for injustice, we seek to live out the truth that He cares for those who have suffered at the hands of others. It is our desire that Naomi’s House will always be a place where God’s love is seen in action through spiritual, emotional, and physical healing. In addition, we believe that true healing comes when a person is reconciled to God through Jesus Christ, and this is our ultimate hope for every woman who enters our doors. Our faith is the ultimate motivation behind the work of Naomi’s House and the reason we are trauma-informed, comprehensive, individualized, and strengths-based. Throughout our three programs, participants have the opportunity to encounter Jesus, His love for them, and find eternal hope. We know and trust that this is the reason we see lasting change and deep healing in the lives of survivors. #faithbased #naomishouse #hopeliveshere

This weekend, we celebrated another graduation from our Reside program! For over a year and a half, Makena* consistently chose herself, focused on her healing, and began the process of rebuilding her life. During her programming, she learned to use her voice, found strength within herself, and built the most beautiful community of people who love and care for her. As we launch her from Reside, we are so excited for her next steps as she embraces a life free from exploitation! We are so very proud of Makena! Join us in celebrating her by leaving a note of encouragement below! *name changed for privacy #naomishouse #graduation #hopeliveshere

Being a strengths-based program means that we value who the participants are and the strengths that they possess. Focusing on their strengths allows us to involve participants in identifying their goals and planning their care. We believe in empowering each survivor to be the advocate in pursuing God’s purpose for her. As a result, her desires and strengths become the driving force behind her long term goals. Our desire in this process is for each survivor to be heard, have access to decision making, and to share ownership of her programming. Through this process, we identify strengths that can be reinforced, professional resources that she needs, and help her build and foster her support system. She is the best advocate for the changes that she would like to see in her life and what she needs in order to accomplish those changes. Why does strengths-based work? Because her input, buy-in, and involvement increase the likelihood of success. She is more likely to achieve her goals when her strengths are identified and she is empowered to set her own goals. #naomishouse #hopeliveshere #strengthsbased

Free. Powerful. Confident. After months of building trust and forming a relationship with a horse at House Power, these are the words Callie* used to express how she felt after riding the horse on her own at a recent equine therapy session. A staff member reflected that “it was beautiful to see her empowered and encouraged to never give up--even though it took a long time to take this step.” Working with horses requires a survivor to build a trusting relationship with the horse, respecting the animal, and meeting them where they are at. It also teaches her to assert herself to gain the horse's respect in return. In doing so, the survivor gains self esteem, learns how to use her voice and communicate well, and practices building trust within relationship. The beauty and power of equine therapy is that all of these skills translate over into the rest of her life, aiding her on her healing journey. *name changed to protect privacy #equinetherapy #naomishouse #healing #hopeliveshere #empowered #horsepower

We believe there is no “one size fits all” approach to helping women find healing and progress. Because of this, every participant works with their care team to establish her own individualized program that is unique to her needs, strengths, and goals. We aim to answer the questions: ~ what does she need to heal? ~ what are her strengths? ~ where are her gaps in education? ~ what are her interests and goals? It is answers to questions like these, combined with our staff’s professional guidance, that create the roadmap for healing and empower a woman in our services to achieve her goals. Her input is essential as we believe she is the best advocate for her own care. We believe that honoring an individual is to honor her cultural identity as well – we are committed to helping her become all that God as created her to be. #naomishouse #individualizedfocus #healing #hopeliveshere

Rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the belief in the dignity and value of each woman we serve, we are committed to caring for every part of her. So when we say our programs are comprehensive we mean that we provide services addressing every aspect of every survivor in our care… not just their practical needs like housing, food, and medical, but their emotional and spiritual as well. By addressing more than just practical needs and focusing on mental, emotional, and spiritual healing, survivors in our care can make steps towards long term healing and change. The obstacles survivors face every day because of their trafficking have held them back from beginning their healing journey for too long. For every obstacle every survivor faces, we will provide at least five opportunities to help her address it. #holisticcare #naomishouse #hopeliveshere #healing

We have had the privilege of walking alongside Tay* in our Rise program for over a year and have witnessed so much beautiful healing and growth. During a recent conversation with staff, Tay identified that one of her biggest strengths is her ability to address challenges head-on. Tay explained that she has grown so much in this over the last year and has discovered that she is actually an excellent problem solver! She mentioned how she used to avoid her problems until they became unmanageable, but now she has realized that “I feel better when I just face the problems.” It can take a long time for our clients to be willing to discuss, let alone face their challenges head-on, both past and present. Tay, we are so proud of you and the hope you bring other survivors who are starting their own journey! We are so very proud of Tay! Help us celebrate her! *name changed to protect privacy #naomishouse #hopeliveshere #healing #celebration

Trauma-informed care is the heartbeat of Naomi’s House. Everything we do flows from this philosophy of care and we believe it is an essential component for healing to take place. To provide trauma-informed care, we must have a thorough understanding of the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual effects of trauma. However, it is more than just an awareness that survivors have experienced trauma…it guides every interaction our staff have with survivors. It is the undercurrent for every programmatic decision. It requires consistency, authentic connections, clear communication, and boundaries from our staff. It often means we go deeper, get messier, and lean on God that much more. Despite triggers, big reactions, and complicated healing journeys, we know there is hope in healing. And we get to share that hope with survivors every single day. Our trauma-informed programming allows survivors to participate in an environment that acknowledges and validates their experiences and treats them with the dignity and care they deserve…sometimes for the first time. It provides a sense of safety that allows the body and brain to begin the hard work of processing and healing. Do you have any questions about trauma-informed care? #traumainformedcare #naomishouse #hopeliveshere

For change to take place, the body needs to learn that the danger has passed and how to live in the reality of the present. This can be an overwhelming task. Many survivors express that healing from trauma can be harder than the traumatic experience itself. Essential pieces for healing and feeling safe include meaningful community, a strengths-based focus, trauma-informed therapy, and a spiritual connection to God. Our team works to help each survivor in our services learn what she needs to feel safe and in the present. Healing from trauma can be overwhelming and we are here to provide the care, community, support, and resources required for that healing to take place…step by step. #hopeliveshere #naomishouse #traumainformed #healing

In her free time, Jessie enjoys going to the lake, swimming, and spending time in community. She also loves a good lazy day at home watching early 2000s sitcoms and creating new recipes. When asked what she enjoys about her current position, Jessie responded, “I love that I can share the love of Christ every single shift. Jesus alone has the power to bring healing, and seeing His transformative work up-close at Naomi's House is awe inspiring.” We are so thankful you joined our team, Jessie! #meetourteam #naomishouse #hopeliveshere

Empowered. This is the word Anya* used in a recent case management session to describe how she was feeling. That week, Anya had been faced with a challenging and intimidating task, yet she pushed through and accomplished it. On her own. “I felt so empowered after it! I started practicing more coping skills and doing more on my own…” By facing her fear, she proved to herself that she was capable of more than she thought. She believed in herself. And when she believed in herself, she was able to accomplish so much more than she knew she could. Sometimes, it’s the small victories that make the biggest difference. Help us celebrate the small (but huge) victories with Anya! *name changed to protect privacy #hopeliveshere #empowerment #naomishouse

How does trauma impact the brain? When trauma occurs, the brain automatically creates safety barriers that reshape the frontal lobe. As a result, victims can no longer organize or regulate emotions, and they have trouble discerning the difference between safety and threats. Therefore, everything feels like danger, and the brain assumes survival is uncertain, prompting a variety of fight, flight, freeze, and fawn behaviors. This can result in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and this way of life is not sustainable. Although trauma changes the brain and can result in significant challenges, healing is possible. Understanding what happens in the brain is the first step to calming the body and brain during a trauma response and allowing healing to begin. #trauma #naomishouse #healing #prayer #HopeLivesHere #recoveryispossible

Earlier this week, several Reside staff were working on cleaning out some old items from the house that are no longer being used. Trisha*, a current participant, walked past the pile of items to donate and caught a glimpse of something she recognized: her own handwriting. Digging through the pile, she pulled out a handmade item that she had crafted years ago, from the first time she got accepted into the program. A few years back, Trisha entered our Reside program but did not stay long. Sometimes participants are not yet ready to engage in the discomfort and challenge of growth and healing while in the program. Over time, however, Trisha found her way back to Naomi’s House and is nearing the completion of her program. Trisha teared up as she recognized the item from years ago and reflected with staff on just how far she has come since then. Naomi’s House is here for every woman who comes to us - no matter where they are at in their journey. Whether it is a short interaction with us or program completion, we meet them as they are and provide the support and love they deserve. This path of healing and change is hard and far from linear, but it is beautiful. Please share some encouragement for Trisha and the other strong women in our programs! #naomishouse #hopeliveshere #healingprocess #recoveryispossible

How did we celebrate Valentine’s Day at Naomi’s House? By building intentional community. At Rise, our Day Program, we hosted a Galentine’s Day party for Rise and Reside clients where we ate brunch, focused on self-care with homemade sugar scrubs, and enjoyed one another’s company. Reset, our drop-in program, held a Valentine’s dinner for clients, their kids, staff, and volunteers. The evening was full of joyful laughter, relaxing fun + games with everyone joining in for charades. All of our clients enjoyed sweet Valentine’s Day gifts from our amazing volunteers. All the fun and laughter bring us together to create healthy community. At Naomi’s House, we believe community is essential to establishing a healthy and holistic lifestyle--emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Having a strong community is the foundation of long-term independence and success. Our hope is that through all the time spent together, every one of our clients experiences the healthy and supportive community she deserves. #valentinesday #community #naomishouse #hopeliveshere

“Can I just talk? …because I am having a moment.” ‌ When a client recently said this to one of our Program Advocates, our staff person knew her words meant a lot. She was starting to open up. ‌ Karly* explained how she feels connected to a guy who is currently in jail. This man is also her trafficker. He tries to reach out to her-- sometimes the call goes through, sometimes it doesn’t. ‌ “He was perfect in every way,” she admitted. “All he did was hit me. That was the only bad thing.” ‌ Our Program Advocate gently asked if the things he provided, such as shelter, protection, and safety, were his way of controlling her. Karly nodded her head, then she said something that blew us away. ‌ “What I want is not what I need, and I know God is helping me see I need to do things even if it’s not what I want, so it can eventually become what I want for myself.” ‌ We stand with Karly and with what God is helping her see. ‌ Would you encourage Karly by leaving a comment? ‌ *name changed to protect privacy #Naomishouse #hopeliveshere #endhumantrafficking #God #faith

Fact: Naomi’s House nearly doubled the number of women served in 2023, as 194 survivors took courageous steps toward healing. Without a healthy support system, victims remain vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. That’s where you come in. Fact: Survivors need a network of supportive people to help them overcome the impact trauma. They need a safety net of care. They need your support. Naomi’s House needs a wider network of friends who will take the next step and support these women on their healing journeys. We’re looking for 100 brand-new donors to provide a safety net of care for these survivors. Will you give your first-ever gift for #GivingTuesday tomorrow? #hopeliveshere #naomishouse #nonprofit #survivors #humantrafficking

For Executive Director Simone Halpin, the tiny moments of God moving in the lives of the women Naomi’s House serves often mean the world to her. “These special, divine moments make up a beautiful tapestry of hope and healing,” Simone recently said, before pointing back to the supporters, donors, and friends of Naomi’s House who make this work possible. Your hands and feet are very much in the fabric of these tiny, healing moments. From our hearts to yours, thank you. Might you take great delight in how God is using you in this Kingdom work. #gratefulness #thankfulness #kingdom #hopeliveshere #naomishouse #happythanksgiving

When Kate graduated from Reside and moved into the Rise Independent Living program, the transition wasn’t easy. As a woman in her late forties, she was working two jobs, exhausted and fatigued at the end of every day. Even in the midst of this tiredness, she recognized a personal trigger: when she is fatigued, she often makes choices she’ll later regret. As such, this strong woman quit her second job and advocated for a pay raise at her first job. And friends, she got the raise! We celebrate not only that she advocated for herself, but that in her trauma, she recognized her own triggers. Celebrate this milestone moment by leaving a comment below. #advocate #hopeLivesHere #NaomisHouse #celebrate #survivors

A team from @willowcreekcc recently packed 200 outreach bags, 100 of which went to Naomi’s House. Handknit blankets and scarves were inside each bag, as well as other essential winter supplies. Our information is listed on every bag we hand out. That way, we can be here to provide tailored support to victims and survivors whenever they’re ready. We’re glad to partner with you, Willow Creek Community Church! Our team is always looking for more organizations, churches, and individuals to pack outreach bags. Whether you pack 5, 25, or 100 bags, we’ll provide you with a list so you know what to provide. Interested in providing outreach bags?
