A current rushing down of its own nature falls into a hollow & makes a whirlpool, after running a little in that whirlpool, it emerges again in the form of the free current to go on unchecked. Each human life is like that current. Shankaracharya makes out that our real home is sat or Being. Our eyes are bandaged with desires for worldly possessions which blind us. When we suddenly meet a person who knows the Self, whose own bonds have been broken, when he points the way, we feel that we are not mere creatures of the world but we belong to the ultimate reality. We are released, when the body reared by our past deeds falls off. While the deeds performed after the attainment of saving knowledge do not bind us, those acts which have resulted in this embodiment have to exhaust their consequences. Both those who know the truth and those who do not know the truth reach the ultimate Reality at death. This passage gives an illustration to indicate how he who knows, when he reaches the Real, does not return to embodied life, while he who does not know, when he reaches the Real returns. An issue with most journeys to liberation is division and predictions. Non-dualistic philosophies such as Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, daoism, and open individualism are some of the best beliefs to cultivate. But they all miss out on an important rule that Sikhism managed to add: do not focus on salvation (future-tense.) Worrying about escaping the wheel of samsara after this life is no different than worrying if you will go to heaven or hell. Fixating on the afterlife disturbs your presence by an undetermined future. But as I recount a warm memory of a crush and a friend having a playful bond in dance class, I realized this is the freedom of Loving Kindness. Whether I witness or imagine such, it will put me in a state of bliss (hence the audacity to define heaven and hell.) Metta insists that as we remove the notion of I, we are loved by the relationships that don’t involve our individual selves. Don’t be jealous when you see a crush date someone and break that bond. What Is the Nature of Śaivite Theology? Śaivism proclaims: God Śiva is Love, both immanent and transcendent, both the creator and the creation. This world is the arena of our evolution, which leads by stages to moksha, liberation from birth and death. Aum. Śaivism is a unique religion in which God is both manifest and unmanifest, dual and nondual, within us and outside of us. It is not strictly pantheistic, polytheistic, or monotheistic. Its predominant theology is known as monistic theism, panentheism, or Advaita Īśvaravāda. Monism, the opposite of dualism, is the doctrine that reality is a one whole or existence without independent parts. Theism is belief in God and the Gods, both immanent and transcendent. Śaivism is monistic in its belief in a one reality and in the advaitic, or non-dual, identity of man with that reality. Śaivism is theistic in its belief in the Gods, and in God Śiva as a loving, personal Lord, immanent in the world. Śaivism expresses the oneness of Pati-pasu-pāsa, God-soul-world, encompassing the non-dual and the dual, faithfully carrying forth both Vedānta and Siddhānta, the pristine Sanātana Dharma of the Vedas and Śaiva Āgamas. Overtime I've learnt it was not true. Let's take Patanjali yoga which is dualistic and is teaching you to connect, with the world, You to connect with body-mind, You to connect with the soul... Now let's look at nondualistic lineages like shaiva-shakta / tantra* yoga which is teaching that there is only One being which looks at itself through millions of eyes, plays all possible roles and doing all acts in this divine Play we call life... Is teaching you everything is divine, everything is just another aspect of the same Whole, everything is Shiva... Hey folks, The 5th track on The Lore of Falling Bodies (my debut album) ends with me singing this poem. It’s called Monism. Lifting off (stealing) from Becket’s Waiting from Godot, it wends its way up though an attic to reflect on how the vision of a thing becomes conflated with the medium its seen through. In this case, the moon, and the skylight to the moon: Monism there is nothing to do night falls but night doesn’t fall bodies fall we in this force must acknowledge through skylights the moon we sip we nibble under the mossy skylights they are just skylights so far from being actual or possible causes of the tides themselves and yet it is through the skylights I see the moon move the mossy moon move The moon is one of the presiding spirits of the album. Accompanying her, we have Galileo, whose law of falling bodies gives the album its title; Thomas Hardy, whose poem ‘Where We Made the Fire’ I have set to music on the 4th track; and the philosopher Michele le Doeuff, whose essay on ‘Galileo or the supreme affinity of time and movement’ has bugged me for years. I suppose Marshal McLuhan is hovering close by too, among others. Anyway, the music is the thing. How do you like this extract? The whole track is where I morph into a one-man-electro-jazz-band. It’s got a great, lolloping kick/bass, and a bunch of shimmering cymbals and noise, horns, keys… all conducted by a chopped up Dutch train conductor. Complementary to her practice as an artist, Quinda is an athlete partaking in multiple international competitions each year. Being in the midst of the landscape, experiencing the mountains, the different weather conditions, and the site at night enhances her fascination for the landscape which is inextricably reflected in her practice. Last year, this led her to Kyrgyzstan, where she rode the Tian Shan Mountains for 1900 kilometres, completely isolated. Tian Shan is one of the largest continuous mountain ranges in the world. Its name is Chinese for “Celestial Mountains” to which her most recent series thanks its name. In line with the concept of monism, Quinda believes that everything is one; every particle is connected to the bigger thing around us. In her work, every series explores a different fragment of the larger story. You've probably heard the phrase "the map is not the territory." It is possible to take people's views on a set of issues and map them to a point in a statistical space, and to use those points to study other phenomena. In order to do that in a way that people can visualize--that is, to render the space in one (political spectrum) or two (political compass) dimensions--you have to collapse a bunch of variables and discard a lot of information. Ideologues, such as Wokeists and Conservatives, take this map of views as a meaningful expression of your *political identity*. That's because they believe their constellation of views is "correct"...that once everyone believes what they believe, we will have a utopia. In practice, they demand that Believers have the right opinion about every issue. #pragmatists know that eaxh issue is unique. We don't concoct some bogus set of principles that supposedly link our opinions. We don't enforce purity. Monism – the idea that everything in the universe is part of an inseparable, harmonious whole – has received an unexpected revival in quantum physics. The notion of a unifying universe has been usually associated with Asian philosophies, surfacing in the Upanishads, Taoism, Mahayana and Zen Buddhism. But it is also common to many other indigenous communities globally – in the Americas and Africa. In the Western tradition, monism has been long supressed as it presented a threat to the dominance of monotheistic religions, in particular Christianity.
