Bride of Re-Animator (1990) Directed by Brian Yuzna • • • A year ago I saw Re-Animator (1985) at a midnight screening, then at the beginning of this month I rewatched it at home, and now I finally watch the sequel. I thought the first one was pretty ridiculous at times but this one makes the first one seem quite grounded in comparison. I was quite surprised to see this movie start off in a military camp during a civil war with good ol’ Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) and Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) conducting more reagent experiments. After that, the movie kind of slows down, with some interesting moments here and there, as it heads toward a wild finale. Screaming Mad George and KNB EFX Group were behind the make-up and special effects and they did great. I loved the eye-finger thing as well, which was done by Tony Doublin. This was a fun watch. Not as good as the first one but a decent movie nonetheless. All these years later I got to see it at a screening with a good crowd and FX artist, Nick Benson, in attendance. I might love it more now than ever. A fast moving buddy cop zombie action comedy hybrid loaded with crazy practical effects and a sense of fun all the way through. Forty-five years ago tonight (New Year's Eve 12/31/77) ABC had a mini "Tabitha" marathon by airing TWO episodes in a row! The first was Episode #9: "That New Black Magic." This one was so 70s cheesy-tastic! And it's sad 'cause it had potential. I liked that they brought in Lorraine and showed us a little bit more about Marvin's life. I also liked that Adam wasn't in this at all:) I also really liked that they worked on the concept of Tabitha having had a witch girlfriend growing up. And it was cool that Portia arrived saying, "You're Tabitha Stephens, the daughter of Samantha and Darrin Stephens? I accuse you of being a witch!" It was a good start...too bad it went down hill from there. I really liked Portia's necklace though. And it was a totally dumb magic trick that Tabitha did to prove she wasn't in "retirement". Not to mention when Portia zapped up all the furniture...that was THE worst special effect ever! Mel Stewart (Marvin) seemed to be trying too hard to be jive talkin'. It was really annoying. I noticed that Portia zapped up one of Samantha's nightgowns, the pink one. Though the only time I really remember it on Samantha I couldn't find...I did see it though in "I'd Rather Twitch Than Fight" when the saleslady is suggesting nightgowns for Samantha. And those gold jumpsuits, I swear were from the 'I Dream of Jeannie' closet from the S5 episode "Solid Gold Jeannie" when Jeannie pops into the decontamination chamber where Tony is and makes herself small so that she looks like a little gold trophy. This episode was directed by Herb Wallerstein, who directed episodes of 'Bewitched' and a lot of 'I Dream of Jeannie.' He was allegedly murdered in 1985 by his housekeeper who accused him of being mean to her. The case is still unsolved. This episode aired against a rerun of 'The Bob Newhart Show' on CBS, Season 6 Episode 2: "The Ex-Con Job" and 'The King Orange Jamboree Parade' on NBC hosted by Rita Moreno and Joe Garagiola. Forty-five years ago tonight (11/19/77) ABC aired 'Tabitha' Episode #4:”A Star is Born." This episode is not one of the better ones at all because the premise was so stupid: let's write a story around getting Lisa Hartman into skimpy clothes again, which I admit is a not a bad thing, but in the context of the show, just a poor choice. Wanda was really irritating with always saying "honey" or "sweetie". I did think it was funny when Minerva zapped Paul's and Wanda's glasses together when they were clinking and then letting them come apart to spill all over Wanda. Also what was with Minerva having to snap out twice to get a coat?? It seemed weird. The thing this episode had going for it was it was FILLED with former 'Bewitched' guest stars. Fritz Feld, who was the maitre'd at the restaurant was Maestro Ferranini in Season Five's "Samantha at the Keyboard". Then the couple at the table that he moves was played by Hollis Iriving known to us Shirley Clyde, part of the Morning Glory Circle Welcome Wagon and her husband was Cliff Norton who played many roles on 'Bewitched.' I was sure I had seen Montana Smoyer on 'Bewitched' (she was the older secretary on Tabitha) but she wasn't. Sophia, who wasn’t with them, calls Ken. He comes in the courtroom dressed like a clown because he was in the middle of a rehearsal.
