As they say, a year goes by in the blink of an eye. How do you sum up the impact someone had on you for 53 years? My dad raised my sisters and me. When I was younger my biggest fear was my dad dying. I never really thought that day would come. Here we are a year later, and I’ll be forever grateful that we were present when our father took his last breath (March 5, 2023). Still hard to believe sometimes. For many years my dad was my hero. He knew everything (playing Trivial Pursuit with friends, my dad would yell out every answer). He could do anything and if he didn’t know right away, he would research how to do it and then execute it. He could build anything: our house on Fawn Ridge, our kitchen table where family and so many dear friends gathered for meals and conversation over the years. Made my nephew Patrick a wooden rocking horse, my niece Camille a wooden chest and helped build Lollie’s deck, among countless other things for my sisters, their families and me. He could cook anything (was such an amazing chef that even his friends were scared to cook for him because they thought they could never compete). He taught me how to cook and that is one thing I am so grateful to carry forward. He loved to drive. I remember flying to Paris, jumping in a rental car and he drove us 7 hours south to the town Lollie was living in with her French family (the same town in which Tina met her husband) with only the address and a map of France and no sleep in between. He also drove back and forth to see each of us and move us in and out of boarding school and some college year after year. He was not afraid of anything or anyone (at least we never saw it).
