Yellow rocks and yellow forsythia on Mackworth Island this morning. 💛 I had to park over the bridge in town because the small parking lot was full today with school groups. It turned out to be a lovely walk over the bridge and I liked the extra mileage since the island loop is already pretty short. Might be my new routine going forward. I love this area and this hike! I went up the original trail which I didn’t realize was closed for erosion, I went down the reroute, I have them on a map labeled on the last slide. The reroute is easier and cuts out some of the distance + elevation. Due to this the time and distance is slightly longer than would be. Ragged Mountain Trail: Moderate - challenging, up and back, 4.86 miles, 1,073ft elevation gain, took 2 hours and 18 min. Some mild rock scrambling near the top. You start walking through a beautiful stretch of woods, intercut with lovely streams and brooks, and a trail lined with wintergreen, it’s not steep until it is, the elevation gain mostly comes in the last mile and a half. The hike is beautiful, with many beautiful over looks, at the top you have gorgeous views of the coast, surrounding mountains, and lakes. Where is the boundary between northern and southern Maine? I can never decide. I think it is somewhere around the sandy paradise that is Popham Beach. “This is the life!” my son says over and over again, grins plastered on our faces, more relaxed than we have been all winter. While I work on finishing hiking the Maine Mountain Guide, he likes to announce that he is working on the “Maine Beach Guide”. Alright, now I’m convinced electromagnetism exists! 😄 Let me explain why! I captured this images using HDR technique during the recent solar eclipse totality, April 8th. It reveals the celestial crown 👑known as the corona (not this one 😷, nor that one 🍺!) this structure always exist and evolves seconds by seconds, but we are only able to see it during the total eclipse This ethereal halo of plasma encircles the Sun, shining brightest when the sky dims during a total solar eclipse. These are extremely hot particles ejected from the Sun into space, but it’s the Sun’s electromagnetic field that shapes their trajectory. If you look closely, you’ll notice some bends and loops near to the sun surface(dark circle, blocked by the moon). These are visual indicators of the magnetic fields and Those close loops are basically the Gauss law🧲! We can actually see their traces with the eye! How cool is that!! The dogs and I went to Holbrook Island Sanctuary and did a little beach combing. Favorite finds of the day were another buoy to add to our collection and a lavender piece of sea glass. Favorite find for the dogs was a seaweed/driftwood pile about 10 feet wide running the entire length of the beach. 🐕🌊🪵 I’ve always admired this mossy little corner of the park. Even when we haven’t had rain for a while it usually is still dripping a bit. I used to look forward to these winter days when the temperature would climb into the 40s and 50s.
