Earth Day On an overcast day, we ventured to Evergreen Brick Works nestled in Don Valley to partake in Earth Day festivities. Earth Day is a time to celebrate our planet, raise awareness, and take positive actions for a greener future. The event stirred our spirits, particularly the enlightening documentary and overall the simplicity of the Earth Day affair. Ghost Tower The Skylon Tower of Niagara appears in the early embrace of spring before the trees grow their leaves again. As of now, it stands as the lone survivor of some apocalyptic event, devoid of colour and vitality. Trees across Canada shed their leaves during winter, only to burst into vibrant splendour in summer. But, surprisingly, the Skylon tower isn't empty at all. It's full of people waiting to witness a total solar eclipse. #skylontower #earlyspring #ghosttower #solareclipse #niagara #niagarafalls #skylon #travel #canada #ontario #jivanshaili

Journey Behind the Falls I have visited Niagara Falls three times for various reasons, and each time, the magnificent waterfall continues to captivate me. The sheer magnificence of this natural wonder never fails to mesmerize me, as if time itself stands still in its awe-inspiring presence. The Journey Behind the Falls offers a unique perspective, bringing you as close as possible to the thunderous cascade from below. There, cameras are set aside as we immerse ourselves in the roaring symphony of water, feeling the mist dance upon our faces. #niagarafalls #niagara #waterfall #waterfallphotography #nature #motherearth #falls #travel #journeybehindthefalls #niagaraparks #ontario #canada #jivanshaili

Eclipse Glasses During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun can lead to solar retinopathy, or retinal burns, due to its intense light.  Eclipse glasses effectively block most of this light, safeguarding against such damage and enabling safe viewing of the eclipse. These glasses were readily accessible across the city, including Toronto Libraries, and were even distributed during the Easter Parade. Additionally, at Niagara Falls, the Ontario Science Centre supplied eclipse glasses to allow for the safe observation of this natural spectacle. #eclipse #eclipseglass #safety #solareclipse #niagara #niagaraparks #ontario #canada #jivanshaili #travel

Eclipse For the first time in my life, I seized the opportunity to witness the Solar Eclipse at Niagara, which fell on the path of totality. The overcast sky made me skeptical, like millions of other people, that I would be able to see the eclipse or not. Yet, amidst uncertainty, we were blessed with fleeting moments of the eclipse, which I captured through my camera. A solar eclipse can damage your eyes and camera sensor if you attempt to view or capture it without certified eclipse glasses and filters. #solareclipse #solareclipse2024 #totality #eclipse #niagara #canada #experience #onceinalifetime #jivanshaili #ontario #sun #moon

Rainbow On a cloudy day in Niagara, I spotted someone donning a vibrant, striped suit and a cheerful orange hat, reminiscent of a rainbow. It was a day marked by the convergence of millions flocking to Niagara Falls to witness the celestial spectacle in its totality. However, the thick clouds dashed the hopes of many who had journeyed far to behold this rare astronomical event. Yet, amidst the disappointment, my spirits were lifted upon encountering this lively figure amidst a sea of sombre, gray jackets. #rainbow #solareclipse #niagara #niagarafalls #colors #colorfuldress #happy #joy #fun #travel #niagaraparkway #ontario #canada #jivanshaili

NIMBUS In ancient mythology, a NIMBUS signifies a divine aura, though in literal terms, it can denote a rain cloud or thunderhead. Each year, the Winter Stations exhibition transforms Woodbine Beach into a hub of artistic expression, enhancing the waterfront's charm. This installment, dubbed NIMBUS, prompts visitors to contemplate the impact of rain's presence and absence in our modern era.  It symbolizes not only fierce storms and inundation but also worrisome patterns of dwindling rainfall, drought, and desertification. #nimbus #winterstations #woodbonebeach #beach #lakeontario #art #installation #exhibition #lake #toronto #canada #jivanshaili

Easter Bunny The Beaches Easter Parade is a charming affair we joined to mark Easter, filled with music, and the ever-present Easter Bunny. The Easter Bunny is a folkloric figure and symbol of Easter, depicted as a rabbit dressed in clothes bringing Easter eggs. The origins of the Easter Bunny are traced back to German Lutherans, where the "Easter Hare" initially played the role of a judge. This springtime holiday brings not only religious significance but also delightful traditions like the Easter Bunny and the decorated eggs. #easter #eastereggs #easterbunny #easterday #easterparade #beaches #toronto #canada #holiday #spring #jivanshaili

The Cartographer's Mistake In the Art Gallery of Ontario, I stumbled upon the captivating artistry of Sarindar Dhaliwal, an artist of Indian descent residing in Toronto. The artist translates the ugliness of Partition’s communal violence into a living floral map of the Indian subcontinent as a whole. She uses marigolds to depict the borders and territories of her native land, which was disastrously divided by Cyril Radcliffe. Since the 1980s, her work has examined Indian history and identity, and the experience of immigration and diaspora. #art #artgalleryofontario #ago #agotoronto #artgallery #marigold #india #partition #cartography #migration #history #flowers #canada #jivanshaili

Sorrow This sad sculpture was lying somewhere in the Art Gallery of Ontario and demands at least a few minutes of attention and genuine feeling. Through the half-closed eyes and pinched skin between the eyebrows, the artist offers us a deep and empathetic connection with this man. He was Pierre de Wissant, one of six local leaders who, in order to free their town from a siege, volunteered to sacrifice their lives. Swagger I like the way Canadians raise their kids, by not being overprotective but instead taking them outdoors at an early age. This fosters self-reliance in youths, preparing them for challenges and instilling a high level of confidence in their pursuits. Abstract I have a deep appreciation for abstraction, the method of simplifying intricate structures by focusing on their essential features. Loneliness I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for the people who live alone in a foreign country away from their loved ones. Even though there are lots of things to do in a new city like Toronto, it doesn't take away the feeling of being lonely. People there are nice and happy, but everyone has their own life, and they're used to being on their own. A year ago, I was okay doing things alone, but now it feels like a distant memory, and I can't handle being alone anymore. #loneliness #companion #life #lifepartner #bayfront #harbourfront #lake #lakeontario #toronto #canada #sherbournepark #jivanshaili

Shoe Museum The Bata Shoe Museum, dedicated to footwear and calceology, offers a captivating journey through 4500 years of shoe history. The museum has a permanent collection of over 13000 shoes and related items as well as temporary and travelling exhibitions. Inside the architect Raymond Moriyama’s iconic, award-winning building, we delved into the extraordinary array of shoes. I was truly amazed by the limited knowledge I had about footwear and found myself in awe while witnessing its fascinating evolution. #batashoemuseum #bata #shoe #museum #showmuseum #toronto #footwear #history #evolution #canada #jivanshaili

Mummy Boots The Bata Shoe Museum explores the fascinating history of footwear, tracing its origins back to the dawn of human civilization. Just as humans have evolved, so too has footwear, transitioning from a basic necessity to shaping modern style and fashion. The ancient Egyptians embellished the soles of mummies' feet with painted cartonnage, like shoes meant to be worn in the afterlife. I find history captivating because the more we delve into the past, the better we comprehend the intricacies of our world. #mummy #cartonnage #footwear #history #ancientegypt #egypt #batashoemuseum #toronto #canada #downtown #museum #art #piece #specimen #jivanshaili

Cold I used to be afraid of the cold weather in India to the extent that I couldn't tolerate temperatures below 17 degrees. However, having braved a couple of months of winter, it seems like I've built up an immunity to the freezing temperatures. This winter, I've taken up ice skating and am thoroughly enjoying it. It's delightful to watch people of all ages gliding joyfully over the ice. When I have my skates on, I even take off my jacket while skating, as the activity generates enough body heat to keep me warm. #cold #winter #warmup #iceskating #greenwoodpark #toronto #canada #skating #workout #enjoy #fun #happiness #jivanshaili

Giant Shoe Box The Bata Shoe Museum expresses the vision of its founder, Sonja Bata, and the talent and skill of its architect, Raymond Moriyama. Moriyama drew inspiration from the concept of the museum as a symbolic container, a metaphor he derived from the open shoe box. The distinctive architecture of the building features a copper-clad roof that evokes the image of a lid gracefully resting upon an open box. Located near the University of Toronto's St. George Campus, the museum exemplifies the blend of artistic vision and architectural brilliance. #batashoemuseum #toronto #canada #museum #shoe #shoemuseum #bata #architecture #building #downtown #downtowntoronto #jivanshaili

Winter Festival During the final day of the Cavalcade of Lights festival, the Greater Toronto Area experienced a gentle snowfall. While some individuals delighted in ice skating at the rink, hundreds gathered on the streets to advocate for a ceasefire. The mayor of Toronto had orchestrated a Skate Party, offering complimentary hot chocolate and cookies to attendees. Nathan Phillips Square, a venue renowned for hosting numerous events and festivals during the summer, became silent in winter. #winter #festival #cavalcadeoflights #toronto #cityhall #downtowntoronto #snow #snowfall #winterfestival #nathanphillipssquare #canada #jivanshaili

Joy Many warned us about the Canadian winters as they become more depressing, but we're finding joy in this darker season. This winter is notably milder, due to the El Niño effect, leading to an uncharacteristic lack of snow for Christmas. One foggy morning, we embarked on a road trip to Niagara Falls, only to discover bright sunshine breaking through the gloom. The radiant daylight at Niagara lifted our spirits, allowing us to relish the breathtaking views of the Rainbow over Niagara Falls. #niagara #niagarafalls #winter #fog #niagarariver #waterfall #falls #niagaraparks #travel #vacation #joy #happiness #couplegoals #canada #roadtrip #jivanshaili

Protest The commencement of another year brings forth a landscape marred by conflicts, economic instabilities, and geopolitical frictions. It makes me wonder if we're really moving forward in the 21st century, or if our technological progress is leading us back to violent times. Amidst the Mayor's Skate Party in Toronto, protests unfolded, echoing concerns about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Despite the modern age we live in, with all the destruction happening worldwide, achieving peace feels like a far-off dream. #protest #toronto #canada #nathanphillipssquare #peace #war #modernworld #iceskating #skatingrink #cityhall #jivanshaili

The Art In the chilling atmosphere of Distillery Winter Village, we sought refuge in the Art Gallery, captivated by the mesmerizing artworks within. The Art Gallery's exposed brick wall served as a canvas for an array of paintings, each transporting us to distinct realms. One particular painting that caught my eye portrayed the realistic charm of an aged wooden barn, set against a sea of golden wheat. Artists, akin to enchanting magicians, have the ability to reveal the beauty concealed in the ordinary objects we often overlook. #theart #paiting #artgallery #artist #paintings #distilleryvillage #distillerywintervillage #toronto #canada #travel #explore #jivanshaili

Ice Skating Ever since the onset of winter, I've observed people of all ages enjoy doing ice skating on rinks throughout Toronto. This was a completely new experience for me, prompting my decision to learn ice skating and regularly visit skating rinks for practice. The initial attempts were challenging, marked by a few falls and minor injuries. Despite these setbacks, I persisted in my efforts. Now, I've reached a point where I can glide over the ice without falling, serving as a motivating factor to continue ice skating. #iceskating #winter #winteractivities #skatingrink #skating #toronto #sherbournecommon #wintersport #enjoy #learning #canada #jivanshaili

Sherbourne Common Sherbourne Common, situated in a former industrial zone of Toronto, is a waterfront park that we visited for ice skating. It is one of the earliest parks in Canada to incorporate a neighbourhood-wide stormwater treatment facility into its design. This uniquely shaped washroom is located on the north side of the park, adjacent to the skating rink and the water channel. It has a zinc-clad exterior harmonizing with the Pavilion and a welcoming wood-lined interior, contributing to a cozy ambiance. #sherbourne #sherbournecommon #park #waterfront #waterfrontpark #iceskating #architecture #washroomdesign #toronto #canada #jivanshaili

Light Tunnel During the Winter Festival of Lights, the Pathway Leading to Niagara Parks Power Station sparkled with the Tunnel of Lights. This winter season stands out as one of the mildest in Southern Ontario, resulting in the absence of snow during the Christmas period. On Christmas Day, a majority of people celebrated the festive occasion with their families, leading to a relatively sparse crowd. Our evening stroll along the Niagara Parkway was delightful, but we missed the night view of Niagara Falls due to the thick fog. #winterfestivaloflights #winter #festival #lights #love #travel #stroll #niagarafalls #niagaraparkway #christmas #holiday #celebration #canada #jivanshaili

Toronto Power The Electrical Development Co. was a company that built and operated the Toronto Power Generating Station in Niagara Falls. It was the first wholly Canadain-owned hydroelectric facility at Niagara Falls, established in 1906 with a capacity of 102.5 MW. The station operated until 1974 when it was closed by Ontario Hydro and designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1983. Holiday Niagara Falls is such a famous destination for international tourists that a trip to Canada is deemed incomplete without it. But, the falls took on an unexpectedly serene atmosphere on Christmas Day, as most attractions were closed for the holiday. Thanks to its easy accessibility from Toronto City, we embarked on a foggy morning picnic in Niagara Falls. We enjoyed the absence of ships navigating the river and the view of the American Falls without the usual crowd. #picnic #niagara #niagarafalls #niagarariver #friends #travel #roadtrip #niagaraparks #holiday #christmas #vacation #canada #jivanshaili

Rainbow On Christmas Day, with limited activities in Toronto, we decided to make our way to Niagara Falls to see the Winter Festival of Lights. Unusually, Toronto City was shrouded in a dense layer of fog that gradually dissipated as we approached Niagara. The emergence of sunlight was a welcome sight after several gloomy days, and the rainbow was the added bonus. Despite the closures on Christmas Day, a lot of people were relishing the breathtaking view of the majestic falls. #christmas #christmasday #vacation #roadtrip #niagarafalls #niagara #niagaraparks #rainbow #waterfall #falls #december #holidayseason #nature #ontario #canada #jivanshaili
