On the days l’m most productive its because of a schedule. Wake-up, coffee, run 5 miles, drink lots of water, shower, have a pastry with more water, and write. If I do this I know I can write at least a couple of hours straight before the second part of the day comes crashing down on me, which is usually the time my refrigerator asks to be filled, the pile of laundry asks to be washed, plants begin looking thirsty, the image of a nice lunch somewhere springs in my mind, perhaps a stop at the bookstore too- I never get tired of that. And afterwards, write again. I always come back to the table, to put down words on my paper, its my safe place. #writerlife #jessiacharles #writersgonnawrite
Im in Monterey for the week, again. I come here often, for the fresh sea air, crisp weather, beautiful moody scenery, the clouds, the wildlife, for inspiration, for rest. Here, it’s the same but not. The trees are old and tall, for me that says something of a place, the fact the trees were left alone to grow. Many of the buildings and structures around town are also old and not from this time, it all makes me wonder. Monterey is my fuzzy warm blanket I wrap around my brain so it feels nice and snug, comfortable and secure- preparing it and me for more imaginings. #jessiacharles #writerslife📚 #writers #montereycalifornia #travelingwriter
Went to Ojai for a couple of days. It really is such a beautiful place 😍 I went in the hopes of getting some material ✔️ and to do a bit of reading and writing/editing ❌ but there was much more to do there than anticipated. Just finished reading The Remarkable Rescue at Milkweed Meadow, a middle grade novel, told from the pov of a little rabbit. I was reading this as a kind of research, Im currently in the middle of writing a middle grade series. I have never cried from a book before but this one had me sobbing, there were parts of it that was so moving and relatable to whats happening in the world right now. I hope everyone is having a great year so far ❤️ and off to a good start ☺️ This is a late post, it’s not that I was too busy or that I forgot, it just took me a while to really figure out what I wanted for myself this year, aside from the usual eating healthier and moving more. I’ve been on a roll with improving my mental health, it’s been a long journey with a lot of small improvements along the way but I found that half way through last year I was hitting a lot of big ones, being able to say “no” without feeling guilty is the one I’m most proud of, as well as, being able to name my emotions when I’m in the middle of feeling a lot of negative ones. This year I decided that I want to keep on this path, to not falter, to liberate myself so that I can be the authentic individual that I was born to be.
