🎶 With #msawarenessweek last month re-sharing this of the incredible Jacqueline du Pré ❤️ 🎼 Famous Musicians with DisAbilities - Jacqueline du Pré This isn’t our usual look at a famous Musician with DisAbilities because tragically Multiple Sclerosis actually ended du Pré’s career and led to her early death - but let’s not remember her for this terrible disease but for her wonderful talent and the legacy she left. Jacqueline du Pré OBE was a British cellist, acknowledged as one of the greatest players of the instrument. She is particularly associated with Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E Minor; her interpretation of that work has been described as “definitive” and “legendary”. There has never been a cellist like her. Du Pré received several fellowships from music academies and honorary doctorate degrees universities for her outstanding contributions to music in general and her instrument in particular. In 1956, at the age of 11, she was the second recipient of the prestigious Guilhermina Suggia Award, and remains the youngest recipient. In 2012, she was voted into the first Gramophone Hall of Fame. Despite her short career, she is regarded as one of the greatest cellists of all time. ▫️Did you know: At the age of four du Pré is said to have heard the sound of the cello on the radio and asked her mother for "one of those". 라이터 지포 기름으로 중고 음반을 지포 라이터 기름으로 닦던 무식한 시대가 있었다. 판 상태는 새것보다 더 컨디션이 좋은 무지개빛까지 돈다. 틀어보면, 음골이 다 녹아서 끝 플레이까지도 심한 틱잡음을 들어야 한다. 이건 팔면 안되는 물건인데. 파는이도 뜨끔 했는지, 의심이 갈 정도에 저가에 내놓기도 한다. 그런 상태는 아무리 깨끗해도 라면 냄비 받침이다. 8-90년대 청계천 두꺼운 비닐 백화현상은 세월이 지나서야 망친 음반들이 많았고, 망치고 버린것이, 좋은 음반들만 더 두껍게 싸 놓았기 때문에 피해가 컸다고.. Jacqueline du Pré and Sir John Barbirolli recording Elgar's Cello Concerto with the LSO. Fifty years on, the recording that sealed du Pré’s reputation as a pioneer of the Elgar Cello Concerto remains as visceral and heartfelt as ever. ‘It is a totally committed performance,’ wrote Trevor Harvey in his review. ‘And though every phrase is perfection, the interpretation is strong in its overall conception of each movement.’ "What was it about her musicianship that made her unique? Was she, perhaps, in the right place at the right time? The 1960s signified a social and cultural revolution during which a more liberal, expanded way of thinking became the norm. Du Pré, with her extrovert style of playing, fitted into this new ideal. As Daniel Barenboim says, ‘She was so free, emotional and carefree – not careless – that perhaps she represented what many people in England wished they could be but didn’t quite manage to be.’ In recent times, it’s been almost impossible to separate du Pré’s achievements as a musician from the tragedy of her early death from multiple sclerosis at the age of just 42. I for one find it difficult to hear one of her recordings or watch her on film without feeling a sense of loss. What could have been? What was still to come? Es war das Wochenende der starken Frauen, nebst Anastacia im KKL Luzern und meiner Schwester bei mir daheim, nun mit Jaqueline du Pré, DIE Cello- Legende, die weltberühmt mit ihrem Ehemann Daniel Barenboim alle Klassikbühnen der Welt bespielte- und umjubelt wurde und die mit nur 42 Jahren an MS starb - deren bewegtes, tragisches Leben wurde jetzt im Opernhaus Zürich vertanzt und die 65 Minuten, die da ihr Leben noch einmal Revue passieren ließen, vergingen wie im Fluge, so wunderschön, atemberaubend, so berührend war das, was Frau sah und hörte und auch wenn das Ende bereits bekannt war, eine Träne rollte trotzdem ergriffen die Wange bei mir hinunter... . صبح آخرین روز سال است. خودم را میان قهوه، کروسان، داستان های مهاجران و نوای ویولنسل ژاکلین دوپره احاطه کرده ام. در مرخصی استعلاجی هستم و آرامم. در یک هفته گذشته، بعد از آنکه آن سفر شهریِ آمبولانسی زندگی ام را به دو نیم کرد، درست در آخرین روزهای سال، بزرگترین دستاورد امسال را در چنگم گرفتم: پذیرش وضع موجود! دکتر هفته پیش گفته بودکه در چهار هفته آینده خبر نخوانم، ایمیلم را چک نکنم و خودم را در چیزهایی که دوست دارم غرق کنم. امروز صبح که تلفنی وضعیتم را چک می کرد پرسید: برای این هفته چه کارهایی را دوست داری انجام دهی؟ گفتم: بودن در طبیعت، وقت گذراندن با گلدان هایم، کافه رفتن با دوستانم، بافتن کامواهای رنگارنگ، نوشتن برای پادکست، تمرین سه تار، سینما رفتن... گوشی را که گذاشتم در ذهنم جواب را پاک کردم و از سر نوشتم: دلم می خواهد مادرم را محکم بغل کنم، توی خانه اش بچرخم و قربان صدقه اش بروم، موهایش را رنگ کنم، برایش غذاهای گیاهی گیلکی که خیلی دوست دارد بپزم. ببرمش بازار گل. برای هفته بعد هم برنامه دارم. سرزده می روم دم در خانه پدری پیروزه. زنگ می زنم خودش هم بیاید. مثل نوجوانی هایمان ساعت ها قدم می زنیم و از شعر حرف می زنیم. با مرجان یک سفر چند روزه دیگر می رویم یزد. هفته آخر یک بلیت می خرم و می روم بندر. پریسا هم بیاید و عجب نورعلانوری می شود که با آدم هایی باشی که سالهاست می شناسی شان. بعد از آن سفر آمبولانسی، اگرچه بی تابانه هنوز این چیزها را می خواهم اما این خواسته ها دیگر درد ندارد. نداشتنشان را پذیرفته ام. همین است که اینجا نشسته ام و از عطر لاته، طعم کروسان و خواندن روایت های مهاجران لذت می برم. #ه_گرد_تنها #این_سفر_کرده #روزهای_هجرت_از_وطن #آغازی_دوباره_برای_من #سال۱۴۰۲ #پذیرش_وضع_موجود #لذت_زیستن_در_لحظه #jacquelinedupre #jacquelinedupré #maryam_nazarii
Minor Monday with the cello gods 🖤 "This previously unreleased live recording of Jacqueline du Pré playing the Schumann Cello Concerto is her first public performance of the work, given in the Royal Festival Hall on 12 December 1962 with Jean Martinon conducting the BBCSO. She had worked intensively on the concerto with Paul Tortelier in Paris prior to this concert. When Du Pré studied the Schumann with Mstislav Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatoire in 1966, he exclaimed, ‘This is the most perfect Schumann I have ever heard’. The 1962 live performance of the Dvořák Cello Concerto by Rostropovich has also not been released before. He is partnered by Carlo Maria Giulini, who went on to make a studio recording of the same concerto with him in 1977. The Times critic described this Edinburgh Festival performance as an ‘exciting’ and ‘emotionally supercharged interpretation’ with Giulini’s reading ‘full of finely wrought points of detail’.
