My signature textured rings are inspired by the rugged coastline of West Cork, where I collect seaglass for my creations. I've always been a sea lover and felt at home on the beach. As a small child we would search the rock pools for signs of life. Now my children help me to search for seaglass, feed some seagulls, drink some hot chocolate and eat pretzels, and sometimes paint a few stones whilst they wait for me. Some of our best times are had on the local beaches, all year round, we put on our wellies and head out to look for seaglass. In the winter it's quiet, now getting a little busier. There's always something to see, someone to say hi too, and something exciting to find. Seaglass is best found on rocky, pebble beaches. The texture of my signature rings reminds me of just that. Rough hewn, organic, rugged, beautiful. Each ring is similar, and yet different, just as in nature we see repeated patterns and yet each flower, each stone, has its own singular beauty. These 'Rugged Coast' textured rings are one of my signature styles. They can be ordered to size in narrower and thicker bands They are currently priced at 39 euros + postage. And are made of 100% recycled silver. This price will likely go up in the near future. Since the zodiac sign of PISCES is a water sign, we thought we'd draw attention to Ireland’s beautiful coastline as depicted in one of our paintings on display. iMAGE 1: You’ll find this painting entitled ‘View of Ireland’s Eye from the Hill of Howth’ in the Portrait Gallery Lobby of the State Apartments. Ireland’s eye is a small uninhabited island off the coast of Dublin. It is situated north of Howth village and can be reached by ferry in 15 minutes. It is only 54 acres in size, and its summit can be reached in 20 minutes! The landscape is by Irish artist William Howis (1804-1882), son of Edward Howis, an animal painter. Howis was primarily known for his landscapes. He also made copies after James Arthur O’Connor (Irish landscape painter) and painted portraits of well-known figures including Sir James Dobrain (the Inspector General of the Coastguards of Ireland), which was later lithographed by Lowes Cato Dickinson (English portrait painter).
