We drove out to Dun Laoghaire this afternoon, in search of a late lunch, sunshine and blue skies. While it was dry and not too cold in Dublin where we were, not seeing the sun again was frustrating. When this is your commute to work .. . . Working in a fishing boat is hard work, don’t get me wrong, but if you can go to work with sunrises like this then that’s just unbeatable. This is a fishing boat just sailing out at sunrise some weeks ago in Dun Laoghaire harbour. When shooting pictures of the sunrise that day, I was surprised by the amount of fishing boats that headed out to the deep blue (Irish) sea, testing their luck. A short introduction to my Irish seaglass trinket dishes 🌊☘️ I am not long back to Vancouver from a wholesome trip home to Ireland to meet my new baby niece and spend some time with family & friends. And while there, I was able to have some down time to think up new ideas and get reinspired on what I would like to experiment and create more of this year, while also incorporating my irish roots into my work. So this feels like as good a time as any to share a little something I’ve been working on. Towards the end of last year, I had been experimenting with incorporating some Irish sea glass into my work, and have been playing around with these cute little trinket dishes. You may have spotted them at the Circle Craft Holiday Market, where they made their debut, or on the shelves of @billywouldshop over recent months! Each one is unique with a different combination of sea glass pieces, collected from the beaches of the Glens of Antrim coast, and melted into the dish during the glaze firing in the kiln. I love seeing how each individual piece turns out with different glazes, different clay bodies, and different blends of colours melting together in such beautiful ways.
