Walk of the week! 🚶♀️🚶🌥 The well known High Peak Trail runs for 17 miles from Dowlow to the beautiful village of Cromford. This particular route was just over 4 miles, with free parking on Intake Lane in Cromford & a nice lunch stop at The National Stone Centre. Obviously you can make this walk as long or as short as you'd like to but if you'd like to follow this route, check out the details below: ▪ Free parking can be found on Intake Lane, Cromford - DE4 3RH ▪ Walk to the top of Intake Lane and a pathway leads though woodland, via a tunnel to The High Peak Trail. ▪ You will meet The High Peak Trail about a third of the way up the incline. Follow this until you get to 'Sheep Pasture Top' where you will get to enjoy the stunning views of Cromford and the surrounding countryside beyond whilst reading about some of the historic buildings in Cromford too. ▪ Continue along the trail, walking over the bridge that looks over the B5036. ▪ You will come to Steeple Grange Light Railway where you can read about Wirksworth's first heritage railway and even take a round-trip train ride on the main line to Middleton (open every Sunday and bank holiday Monday from March 31st until the end of September). ▪ Continue on the trail until you come to The National Stone Centre. A pathway will lead left, off of the trail. Here you can enjoy a spot of lunch or a quick coffee and even take part in activities such as gem-panning or geo-trails. There's also a children's playground. ▪ After your pit-stop, it's worth walking around some of the landscape to read about 'story of stone'. It's very interesting! ▪ After this, it's time to head back the way you came, walking to Intake Lane, where you parked at the beginning! April 12-14th, 2024. Pomeroy Farm Campsite. We finally went camping as a family! And it was a complete disaster, but that’s okay. It was a learning experience for us all. We specifically chose a campsite relatively close to home, so that if need be, we could make a quick escape with the toddler. That’s exactly what we ended up doing on the first night. However, it was lovely to then use our tent still on the campsite as a little basecamp for the rest of the weekend. And I also got to finally use our camping stove for the first time, with mostly success! We explored the High Peak trail and discovered great food at a few pubs along the trail, and I also managed to successfully backcarry my very heavy toddler for a while! #peakdistrict #peakdistrictwalks #camping #familyadventures #familycamping #highpeaktrail #pomeroycamping #babycarrying

Sunday runday! Didn't think I was going to get out with the wild winds and driving rain, but thankfully late afternoon, both calmed sufficiently for me to get out on a trail run with the pooch. Because I really can't be arsed with all the mud, I've taken to running along the High Peak Trail, moving along the trail as almost a stage "race". Yesterday I started from the finish point on my last run at Harborough Rocks and continued along what must be the least travelled section of the trail! This is probably because the next main point of interest is 9 miles away (there are footpaths cutting off but again to tiny hamlets with no pubs), not that I ran 9 miles! I really enjoyed it though, for a change I had no cyclist come tearing past and it was really peaceful and lots of lovely views. The only downside is that in thinking the gravel trails would be mud free...I discovered otherwise 🙄 so much rain recently that most of the route was flooded so you had to run onto the mud if you wished to avoid flooding your trainers..so me and the pooch got back to the car as if we'd done a full off-road run anyway! Happy Monday everyone...let's keep wishing the rainclouds to bugger off! 🤣

Back on the trails! Been a tough couple of weeks with stuff happening in life and the awful weather we've been having that running has taken a bit of a back burner. However yesterday was a lovely day and with it getting ever lighter in the evenings, I decided to head up to Black Rocks and have a run along the High Peak Trail with the pooch. I chose this as the trail is hard gravel, I admit I'm still sick to the back teeth of all the horrible mud 🤣 can't be doing with constantly cleaning my trainers, myself and the dog after every walk/run with the dog when off road, so this was the compromise. However I really enjoyed it! We pretty much had the trail to ourselves and it was so nice to be running and not be freezing! The views were as lovely as always and Blue was loving all the new smells. It's amazing how a good run like this puts your head in a good place again! I forgot how good the endorphins are! Hopefully life and the weather will be kinder so I can get some more runs done like this! Happy hump day all

Roystone Grange farmhouse and barn, which are Grade II listed buildings from the 18th century. The monastic grange dates from the Middle Ages, with remains of building platforms, a medieval field system and a dew pond from the Roman era lying 200m south of the present farmhouse building. The wool-producing grange was established by the Cistercian Garendon Abbey in Leicestershire in the 12th or 13th century, when the grange was recorded as ‘Reevestones’. Had a lovely few days exploring the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire. It’s only a 10 minute drive from Willow Cottage. There are two great car parks. One is next to an award winning pub, The Royal Oak in Hurdlow and the other is next to a cycle hire shop and cafe, Parsley Hay, both very close to each other. It’s a great trail for walking, dog walking and cycling. Our cottage is also perfect for cycle storage, if you bring your own. Woke up and couldn't even see the houses across the road it was so foggy. . No Peak District again. Sigh. Had a lie in. YEY!! . Went out for a pootle around Carsington Water, plus some villages in the Derbyshire Dales, some of the High Peak Trail and some of the Limestone Way. . I got hot. I got cold. I got muddy. I got soggy. All with my marmite butties and a happy heart. . Just fabulous. . Plus cold pizza in the fridge when I got home and husband had bought me a cinnamon Danish.
