DARK WITCH NIGHT Hekate’s Deipnon takes place during the dark phase of the moon: the end of the lunar month. At the darkest part of the month, we prepare our homes for the transition to a new month. Hekate’s Deipnon, is a time of purification of self, home, and affairs. The main ritual of Hekate‘s supper is fairly simple, you prepare a meal offering to Hekate and leave it at the triple Crossroads for her and also for the restless dead, without looking back. This is also a time for the Hekatean Witch to connect with the powers of the Dark Moon and do workings of witchcraft and necromancy. In addition, its modern tradition to light a black candle to the Goddess on your altar. Dark Witch Night is an oil curated for the witch to anoint themselves, the black candle and all spell work done on this night. All ingredients correspond to the Goddess and the Dark Moon with dirt collected from a triple crossroads under this moon phase. Dark Witch Night was made under the Dark Moon by our Coven’s High Priestess. Only few are available. To purchase send a PM. The Greek Magical Papryi (PGM) is a collection of ancient spells related to various gods and goddesses. These writings give us insight into the cultural relevance of Hekate and the syncretization that occurred with Hekate and many other Goddesses in the Hellenic world. The following are a few examples of the many PGM entries that refer to Hekate under her many names and epithets. PGM IV 1390-1495- contains references to Mistress Hekate, Three-Headed Goddess, Black Dogs, Hekate Cthonia, and others. PGM IV 2441-2621- contains references to Hekate as syncretized to Selene and Artemis, Horse-headed, triple headed, triple named, light-bringer, and many others. Hekate was frequently described and depicted either wearing or in the presence of serpents. Among these is Sophocles’ description in his play The Root Cutters 93: “She who is crowned with oak-leaves and the coils of wild serpents.” As she appeared to Jason in the Argonautica, there are serpents in her presence: “…round her horrible serpents twined themselves among the oak boughs” 94. The Chaldean Oracles also describe Hekate as “the snake-girdled and the three-headed” and “the She-serpent, and the snake-girdled” 95. The association of serpents with Hekate refers to her chthonian powers as well as highlighting the fearsome nature of her manifestations.
